my care had an interesting conversion with 2 male jws.. they said that world peace(or should that be armageddon?
) will happen any second soon, so they were desperately knocking on people doors to convert them!.

I expect it to happen. Not by the political powers but by political choices. Not in my lifetime, not in my children?s lifetime and not even their children?s lifetime but I think it will eventually happen. Not because a government would ban all religion but because society would change into a society without religion. Maybe it will be this way in the next millennium, who knows? I don?t think that will make JWs Gods chosen people.
so for our "congregation book study", we are still deeply mired in the bible teach book.
this week's lesson talks about the whole idea that the book of job relates the central issue of the entire cosmos, a vital issue raised by satan, where satan questions whether humans follow god because of what they are given, or because he deserves it.
i'm surprised that the book of job, obviously archetypal and figurative (for example, i doubt people back then literally spoke for hours in hebrew verse, and i doubt that four messengers showed up all in a row with stories telling that they, only they, got away to tell of a disaster) even has a place in the canon; aside from its lack of any specific historical position or accuracy, the argument it advances (especially as the society interprets it) is facile: the idea that privileged, wealthy, powerful job somehow stands as a representative for all humanity and serves as a litmus test for man's interaction with god is downright silly.
Under_believer:The Society uses this scripture in two ways: in many instances they say that it is God speaking directly to us (example: w53 p102), and in other instances they say that it is Jehovah speaking to Jesus (example: w53 p268). In all cases, though, there is no explanation for why they think it is Jehovah speaking, or why they believe that it is us (or Jesus) that he is speaking to.
The WT explanation of Job leaves little room for common sense.
Many religious people from then up till now believe if we are faithful to god and his laws they will be blessed with earthly things in our earthly existence. For example I know several folks here in the bible-belt that will tell you they have been blessed with financial security only because of their faith and regular attendance at church every Sunday. If we are having a hard time then we must be doing something wrong.
I think the story of Job is more or less a demonstration of, or an exaggeration of ?reality? and has nothing to do with God and Satan having a conversation with anyone.

and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!
I hope LL puts this thread in "the best of" area for lurkers to see in the future and so it won't get lost in the shuffel. I still haven't finished reading all the posts in it, it will take me awhile having to constantly stop and come back to it.

The entire Job...metaphore? never made much sense as though Jehovah really needed to prove something to Satan about what it or isn't in a mans heart.
