Dreamer dude....You are so like myself. A social witness.
Like many on here. I actually truly believed it to be the truth till cracks appeared ie studying the book 'revelation...It's grand climax at hand'. That book truly began my awakening
as someone who has tried to fade on various occasions, i always end up attending meetings!
why is this the case you may ask?.
if i was single, i would have kissed this high control american religion goodbye many years ago.

If I was single, I would have kissed this high control American religion goodbye many years ago. The problem is my wife is quite popular with many jw friends. We therefore are often invited out or she has friends up weekly. To be fair, I do enjoy the social aspect.
I occasionally attend to keep up appearences. I view myself as a Christian, but no longer a JW due to all the erroneous teachings and crazy rules of the GB
To me, it has now become nothing more than a social club. That's it!
Is anyone else experiencing a similar situation, ie attending meetings primarily for social reasons?

not only will you hear howie tran, former-bethelite, but irwin zalkins talks about watchtower's child abuse secrets.
debbie mcdaniels talks about her child abuse and you will hear trey actually talking to the jw who molested her..
Trey Bundy deserves a lot of credit for his determined effort in exposing the issue of child abuse within the organisation.
I look forward to listening to the link later.
from their history, it is evident that jehovah's witnesses are just another doomsday cult.. cults are run by autocrats.
on purpose they are ideologically fixated and they demand that their devotees hold the same absolute certainty of belief without regard for evidence.
the suspension of critical thought is encouraged and by focussing on the objectives of the cult belief in a like minded community, it gives both a sense of direction within a sort of ‘family’ and a hope of paradise perfection.. the leaders have everything to gain by controlling their followers; all the income goes in their direction.. democracy has strictly no part in a running cult.
I would vote to change the organisation and it's practices. Admittedly, there is a lot of good in the organisation.
However, they need to 'Normalise' as a religion. This would entail the following.
1. They need to get rid of policies that hurt people such as shunning, blood policy etc.
2. As an organisation, they need to stop being so controlling over its members
3. They need to stop being so restrictive over just about anything they deem pagan and allow people to decide what they deem conscientiously right or wrong eg birthday celebrations.
4. They of course need to stop being so intrusive into people's lives.
5. They need to accept 'officially' that it would be presumptuous of them to accept that they alone are God's only channel of communication here on earth; and accept that they are not the only Christian organisation.
we are currently living in a country where at the cinema the national anthem is played before the start of the movie and it is law that you stand.
does anyone know what current jw thinking is on this?
i know there has been various changes over the years.
I used to squirm when with groups of witnesses on nights out in one particular country where the national anthem is played at the end of the night.
We looked like a bunch of ignorant disrespectful ass holes as we sat there like stone faced prats.

So according to the GB branch correspondence guidelines.
1. You can fly the national flag of the kingdom hall if the body of elders conscientiously agree to this.
2. You can stand for a national anthem as long as you don't sing or hold your hand on your heart
I really have to laugh. Most witnesses have no idea where they stand on a lot of things 🤔
in his book crisis of conscience, raymond franz likened the governing body to the proverbial 'iron fist in a velvet glove'.
this would seem harsh if it weren't for the fact that there is ample proof that their policies and teachings have caused much pain amongst the friends.
for example, many families have been torn apart through their shunning policy.

Yes Ted Jaracz was a very humble man even in the face of satanic opposition!!

For example, many families have been torn apart through their shunning policy. Or not being allowed to question anything they have written without the fear of possibly facing a judicial.
So my question is this! With so much bad press and criticism against them today, do you think the GB will EVER humble themselves as Jesus admonishes his followers at Matthew 20: 20-28?
Or
will they continue their hard-line 'Iron fist in velvet glove' approach toward the friends.
it has been a while since i've posted, i think its because i have finally gotten some peace and quiet as far as harassment from the jw elders.. my step father, the one who reported me to the elder police for a sinful act invited me to lunch today.. it has been almost a year since the incident, we have talked here and there, it has been just casual though.
he says he is in town for work and asked if i would like to meet up for lunch, i couldn't think of any excuses so i agreed.. i hope it goes well, hope that we don't go into the jw nonsense.
hope he doesn't bring elders with him, am i paranoid or what?
Hi raven,
I think quite a few witnesses are flouting this cruel man made policy and can see beyond the BS they are fed by the GB. Best of luck to you.
an excerpt from plato's republic, the 'allegory of the cave' is a classic commentary on the human condition.
it is a story of open-mindedness and the power of possibility.. .
