TELL US, please, are you Pre or Post--Enlightenment in your thinking?
by Terry inbefore the age of enlightenment the earth was filled with many nations living under vastly differing beliefs about the world.. .
tribes, nations and empires possessed fanciful superstitious beliefs about their own importance in the big picture.. .
religion helped man find a place among fearful gods and demons.

I would say I'm headed towards post-enlightenment. That 'free will and personal interpretation' means a lot to me. I no longer allow myself to be told what to believe. The more questions I ask the more I realise that there are no real answers. So many people have so many different ideas about what 'truth' is, what 'reality' is that not everyone can be right. Questions do not produce answers, they merely produce even more questions.
At the moment I'm reading the book 'conversations with God'. Another interesting way of looking at things. Now my mind has been 'freed' from the constrains of JW land I feel I can read anything I want! That feels so good!!

Is The Book of Revelation All About Me & My Generation?
by ClubSandwich injws believe the book of revelation offers an account of what is to come in their lifetime.
but the problem is that every generation for the last 1900 years has thought the same thing.
and, every generation has been wrong, even though each new one thinks it will be about me and my generation this time.. most reputable bible scholars believe that revelation, also called the apocalypse of john, was not written to describe the future for people living today.

How would you answer? Part 1
by problemaddict inso in my limited quest on here and elsewhere, i am intrigued by the kind of canned responses that come from conversations with my friends and family about "my doubts".
these are of course conversation i usually should not have had in the mind state i was in, or in any state right leaving wt?.
anyways, i wanted to throw out here some of the common things espoused, and see what you all thought was a fair and even handed response.

One I've used with hubby when he's said about 'God's always had an organisation'... besides the point about the times he hasn't had one the only time he has had one was the Israelite nation and the 1stC christians. The Israelite nation went bad very quickly resulting in God having it destroyed not once but twice. During Jesus time he condemned the religious leaders (as the prophets had before him). Then 1stC christianity quickly turned into the Catholic church. This has worked quite effectively (and he's an elder).

Ravens.. I've been mentally out for a year now, my hubby's an elder and I wanted to rush in and tell him everything. I decided to slow down and bite my tongue. Now I only say things when it's the right time. Every so often I drop little seeds of doubt. It's beginning to pay off. I've still got a long long way to go but it's worth being patient.
Please listen to everyone.. don't say anything to anyone about it. If you want to vent or ask questions then come here. If you rush it then you risk losing your wife. Believe it... many on here have lost their spouse. Those that take it slowly seem to have the most success in saving their marriage and getting their spouse out with them.

Why are the Jehovah's Witnesses not allowed to carry a weapon (for protection) during field service?
by I_love_Jeff inif jesus allowed peter to carry a sword for protection, why are the jehovah's witnesses against carry a weapon during their "fun" door-to-door adventuring?
it seems jesus did not mind that peter carried a sword if we read luke 22:36-38. is it another case of picking and choosing what works for their man-made doctrine?.
is defending oneself a violent act, according to the jehovah's witnesses?

In this country ANYONE found to be carrying a weapon will get arrested. (Unless they have a special license).

VOICE
by compound complex inhis voice is liquid, drowning me then rescuing me from the sheer weight of a burdensome life that can no longer be borne.. somehow, a singularly caressing envelope of grace shields me from total obliteration, his ethereal utterance an unknown but strangely welcome entity.. what power lures me outside myself into a realm within my reality but, nonetheless, beyond it?
it is sonority that at once crushes me yet, alternately, cradles me tenderly inside delicate tracery of angel song.. i beg - oh, how i beg - to be released from this aural tidal wave of unquantifiable beauty.. his music is that of other worlds; it holds me in its protective but unrelinquishing embrace.
i equivocate, but it is demurral of little account for i cave and become captive .

FINALLY! Can you prove God exists? If you can I won't ask again!
by punkofnice ini have seen debates and shizzle about god or not god etc etc.. i was even confronted by an aggressive and trheatening muslim in the street, who was angry that i wanted proof that god existed.
he ranted on a load of old b0110cks about 'hell' and stuff.
finally he yelled at me: 'do you want god to write your name in the sky?

I don't think anyone can PROVE God exists but then I don't think anyone can prove he doesn't either.
