having seen many, many people leave the org over the years, i have to say that, when it comes to married couples, it's almost always the man who makes the first move to leave.

conversely, when it comes to being converted into the witnesses, more often than not it's the wife who joins up first.

although that wasn't the case with my own parents, my father became converted and my mother followed very reluctantly..

The JW culture is not one that encourages education and I think the culture tends to mold women to be even more on the uneducated than even a male JW.

my local public radio station today had a piece about dia de los muertos, and after all this time, i was surprised to learn that this day was actually moved to november by the spanish from september.

so much for all that "halloween/all saints/day of the dead celebrates the flood!

This video was interesting. But something stood out, a point he makes a little after the 40 minute mark.

In 1919, why didn't Jesus select the Elijah voice society (Standfathers) as the Faithful Slave? After all, Rutherford encouraged the Bible Students to sell war bonds, but the Standfathers were against this. And they taught all the same stuff (no Trinity, no immorality of the soul), ect..

In a certain way, the sentence is technically true. Russell taught Christ had returned invisibly in 1874 and he believed the Gentile times would end in 1914. Of course, it is highly misleading...the rank and file would read this as Russell teaching the invisible presence would begin in 1914.

But then again, they just said they could err. They just demonstrated it.

JW's and the forgotten Jesus

so as i have been waking up more and more over the past 3 years...i keep telling myself i'm fully awake and then i wake up more, but that's a different thread.

but anyway, i've noticed a lot lately that the wt does not mention jesus or christ very much in their literature and neither to jw's in their conversations.

they mainly talk about jehovah.

In Watchtower theology, Jesus is the most outstanding member of God's organization, but still a member. The organization is still greater in this mindset.
