Office Jargon, drives me nuts
by punkofnice in'granular' seems to be the latest buzz word going around my office.
previously it was 'appetite'.. abstract words that appear to be designed to make the person saying it appear powerful and part of the 'team'.. as lord sugar has observed before; why not just speak english and say what you mean.. office jargon really annoys me.
i had enough loaded language and jargon in the disgusting jw cult..

For years the term "reaching out" irked me. Then I began to use it. -

I was very obedient to what the Organization told me. Although sometimes after the convention was over I looked for ways not to wear it out to dinner. -

Your Jehovah’s Witness Is Showing
by David_Jay insince i just signed up and posted a few times without doing this yet, here is my story..
i think that i became a jehovahs witness because of my immaturity.
i had some quirky personality traits, and i joined finding that i fit in because, as i said to myself: these people get me.

I agree. People who have never been JWs and have not really examined them do not understand. They will say things like, "Oh, they are nice people!" Or, "All religions do this or that." Or, "Why can't you just move on?" -
The Business surrounding JW Pilgrimages (that is Bethel tours, Internationals)
by Londo111 injws take religious pilgrimages of various sorts, to the various bethels, to the bethel at the world hq, and to the international conventions.
this was underscored by anthony morris iii who encouraged jw parents to take their children to bethel, gods house, not just amusement parks.
many jws sign up with a tour group to do just that.

JWs take religious pilgrimages of various sorts, to the various Bethels, to THE Bethel at the world HQ, and to the International Conventions. This was underscored by Anthony Morris III who ‘encouraged’ JW parents to take their children to Bethel, “God’s House”, not just amusement parks.
Many JWs sign up with a tour group to do just that. They take a tour bus, which not only drives them to the hotel and to the various Bethel facilities, but to touristy areas as well.
And while a person could individually decide to visit Bethel when they are in the area on their own, for the International Convention, there seems no other option that I know of but to go through a business that arranges travel, hotels, as well as travel to the convention, local Branch facility, and tourist spots. I’ve had family that went to Europe as well as South America for Internationals as well, over 10 years ago.
[[[From the video and pictures I’ve seen, it is always a full production with entertainment provided to show off the local culture at the Kingdom Hall or Branch facility. The 2014 dancing at the US Kingdom Hall to popular music is NOTHING new, but preceded the 2014 International by at least a DECADE before this. It merely gained visibility in 2014 because the International was in the US and went somewhat viral on Youtube.]]]
Local entertainment aside, there seemed a business that has grown around these pilgrimages. When I was a JW and saw family going to Bethel or the International via these businesses, I wondered at this as well as the Circuit Leasing car business (a separate issue…what was “God’s organization” doing in the car business?).
It seemed almost like the money changers who were making money off the pilgramages to the Temple. Not only did Jesus throw them out, he didn’t even allow people to take a shortcut through the temple for non-religious purposes.
The Watchtower used this example to show how JWs should not network at the Kingdom Hall, and by extension, this sometimes got included to not even handing out invites to casual get-togethers in the Kingdom Hall parking lot: that would be a “shortcut” for non-spiritual matters! Of course, as a JW, I always thought that latter part was too extreme. But nonetheless, the businesses surrounding Bethel tours and Internationals, seemed to be very much like the Money Changers. I wondered why the Watchtower allowed it.
What do we know about these JW Pilgrimage businesses? Have any had personal experience with them? I think this would be interesting for people with some business sense to look into.

There seems to be an exception when it comes to the International convention. When my then mother-in-law went to Chile a number of years ago, they had a show that involved dancing according to local culture (I believe Dancing Gauchos) at the Branch or at the Kingdom Hall.
This was about 10 years ago or so.

No Sports Cars Please!
by snugglebunny ini read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.
the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.
was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.

In my neck of the woods, two-door cars were called "Baptist cars".
Four doors were always a consideration when buying a car because of field service.

Do the Governing body really have the power some think they do?
by sherrie11 ini mentioned this in a previous post, i feel the current gb truly believe they are chosen by god and are indoctrinated just as much as the rank and file.
they are deluded in their belief that they are guardians of the doctrine.
they are suffering from cognitive dissonance just as much.

If Don Adams is now the chief, does that make the Governing Body Larrabee?
