JWStruggle post: Bethel Layoffs Reveal a Kingdom without Clothes
by Londo111 inhttp://www.jwstruggle.com/2013/07/bethel-layoffs-reveal-a-kingdom-without-clothes/.
despite everything, i still have a lingering admiration toward those who serve or have served in bethel.
it is not that i believe it is gods organization in any way, shape, or form.

That is the other side of the equation. The judgmental pressure cooker of the Watchtower warps those who have been there a number of years. People went in with good intentions, but many came out lacking love, empathy and understanding. And common sense.

Rattigan350:
It was 587 BC, the 18th year of Nebuchadnezzar. Some parts of the Bible talk about the 19th year, some the 18th year. The confusion comes about because the difference of time systems, for instance, if you count from the accession year, when the king came to power, versus when his regnal year began starting on the next Nissan 1.
For instance, Nebuchadnezzar's accession year was in 605 BC. His father died in August and he ascended the throne shortly thereafter. However, his first regnal year did not begin until March/April 604 BC.
Things might also get muddled since the pre-Exile Jews evidently went from Tishri to Tishri (September/October), while post-Exile Jews adopted the Babylonian convention of Nissan to Nissan.
From Babylonian sources, it is evident that Jerusalem was destroyed in Nebuchadnezzar’s 18th regnal year, which stretched from March/April 587 BC to March/April 586 BC.
For those that insist on 586 BC, I don’t make too much an issue. It’s only a year, unlike the 20 year gap in Watchtower chronology.

A good link I found of the transition from 606 to 607 BC.

Old-school JWs were readers. Of course, what they were reading was nonsense, but it was deep nonsense. It took some time to digest all the material they had to read. These people were more apt to give a courageous defense of their doctrines.
New-school JWs are not readers. Since 2000, the publications have been more fluffy and lite as time goes by. The public Watchtower and Awake are pretty flimsy. Modern JWs cannot defend their beliefs and the go-to strategy is to run.
A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes. A multimedia presentation is more effective. Much of the content of Dub TV is emotional. The music, especially, is designed to tug at heartstrings. It could be that this Dub TV will be effective at keeping hardcore JWs in.

do other religions change doctrines like the wt society does?
by sowhatnow ini just wondered.
i mean ok, the catholic church seems to make 'adjustments' more or less , by accepting previously held prejudices.
against certain things, like gays, or birth control, or rather tolerate it more, but is that a genuine change of doctrine?.

I’m not sure what JWs would do if the Watchtower stopped making “adjustments”. It is almost expected at a subconscious level.

In mainline Protestantism, people agree on a few basics, and are free to use their own conscience and reasoning to determine what they will believe and are free to change their minds on something whenever they want. Even if a person disagrees with the basics, I haven’t seen people bat an eyebrow.
For instance, in one church, I’ve seen people who believe in Trinity and those who don’t. Those who believe the Holy Spirit is a person and those who believe Holy Spirit is a “divine energy”. There are those who believe in universal salvation and those who don’t. Those who believe in preterism and those who believe in futurism. Millenniumism and amillenniumism. People are basically free to express themselves. No arguments erupt.
In fact, people can unite without having to agree on everything or to be told what they are supposed to believe. I’ve learned true unity doesn’t mean everyone has to be on the same page. Unity and freedom are not mutually exclusive.

I’m cutting and pasting from an email about this very topic:
When I went to visit my parents Saturday, it was like a scene from 1984.
My parents are TV addicts. They have that blasting all the time, even when they are doing other things. Well, with the new Dub TV and help from Roku, they can have that going ALL the time. It permeated everything…it was hard to think through it. It was constantly going, constantly streaming.
I hate to say it but the Borg came up with a good idea. It is a constant source of brainwashing…even when it’s not being watched, it’s in the background, seeping into the subconscious. All JW.org, all the time. There is no way of reasoning with a person under that spell. It is eerie seeing it being used like that.
They told me of the big screen TVs installed in the Kingdom Halls. My father remarked how he’d never thought he’d see the day.
