JW FAMOUS CLICHE SAYINGS

the ones that were passed around, word of mouth.. for example.

Oh!
"Good talk, brother!" (a lie said to nearly everyone)
"Fine information, brother!" (when you wanted to be more honest about a Sunday talk)

New songbook, 2 years later
by WTWizard innow that it has been almost 2 years since they released that flop sing to jehovah, i wonder how much the singing has improved.
i remember hearing a lot about how the singing was horrible when the book was first released.
however, i wonder how many have figured out how to sing those songs.

They sound like off-off Broadway reject showtunes. As poor as the old songbook was, they were better by an order of magnitude.
I remember an old article that advised, "Enjoy those songs!" How can one force oneself to enjoy something one doesn't genuinely like?

An elder dropped by 2 weeks ago with the two 607 rags (OCT & NOV WT)...
by Alfred in...and a big smile on his face... as if to say "i can finally shut you up".... rewinding a bit.... about 18 months ago, i read "gentile times reconsidered" and discovered this doctrine had more holes than swiss cheese.
but it didn't end there, i read several studies in the scriptures, the even tide by john aquila brown (not all of it) and then proceeded to write multiple letters to brooklyn, all of which were responded to by dodging simple questions such as: "if the 70 years ended in 537 and jeremiah says there would be 70 years of servitude, which babyonian king were the jews serving between 539 and 537?".
i showed all three of the society's responses to an elder in my congo (even though he received copies of these himself) and he could see that they were "canned" responses that in no way anwered my queries.

Wow, I had a Pentecostal peer in high school that said to me, "You Witnesses think too much. Don't think, just believe."
Brother Alfred, I just clapped out loud!
You should ask him whether attaining accurate knowledge versus inaccurate knowledge is important for a Christian.

could Jonah have survived in the belly of a whale?
by highdose inits not like he had access to oxygen, light, fresh water or food.

As Paul said about the Sarah-Hagar drama, "these things are allegory."
Therefore, the allegory of Jonah is what is important. There are so many lessons that we can learn from this.
Jonah heroically sacrifices his life to save the sailors from God's wrath. The fish is appointed as a means of Jonah's salvation from a watery grave, delivering him three days later to shore. He thereafter embarks on a greater work, bringing salvation to those in Nineveh.

Analysis of the Book of Daniel
by Londo111 ini had hoped one or two others were about to start a thread on the book of daniel, springing off from the nwt conversation, but alas, nobody has yet.
therefore, i thought i'd start one--i hope that was not too presumptuous of me.
personally, i have nothing meaty to contribute to this thread, only questions and gut feelings.

In respect to the quotation from Daniel the Prophet, I am not sure I am happy with this 19 th century author's argumentation. It seems to be the creation of a False Dilemma. It is EITHER completely historical and prophetic OR a complete fraud. Allowing for no alternatives goes back to the same dogmatism I was brought up on.

Google predicts search - Jehovah's Witnesses mentally diseased
by slimboyfat inhave others noticed that if you enter "jehovah's witnesses" into a google search that the first alternative it predicts is "jehovah's witnesses mentally diseased"?.
i use firefox and am in the uk, if that makes a difference.. does that mean that "jehovah's witnesses mentally diseased" is currently the most popular jw related search?
if so i wonder how many of those searches are by jehovah's witnesses prompted by media exposure of the issue?.

Good work, Cedars!
Too bad the Society is getting a free ride and the last word in these articles. If I were an unbiased party and reading this, I would wonder why these former Witnesses were making such a stink, when they could "just leave". Why aren't reporters asking more questions of the Society's spokesman? For instance, "If they did leave, wouldn't they be shunned by friends and family? What happens to Witnesses who choose not to shun former members?" There is no digging--the articles are very shallow.
I hope the authorities investigating won't do such a cursory job. This article is three months old--is there any status in regard their investigation?

When you were active, did you feel you would survive Armageddon?
by Band on the Run ini am curious about this issue.
personally, i never felt i would be good enough for a split second.
one would think that knowing you can not be good enough to survive would it make it easier to leave the witnesses and live for the present.
