I do not think JWs or those in other cults enjoy shunning.
It is an obligation that their leaders indoctrinate them to do...and the teaching is enforced. If you do not shunning, you could end up being shunned.
it finally hit me today.
why do religions enjoy shunning.
because many people feel like being close to god makes them special however just being special is not enough for many religious people that shun they must feel extra special how?

it's been brought to my attention that there are xjw that say they support the witnesses and don't think russia should ban them.
i would just like to remind all of you that jws are guilty of murder, causing higher rates of suicide, covering up child molestation, and keeping members in prisoned because if they leave they loose family, financial support, possible employment etc.. sure their not strapping bombs to their chests but they easily get members to kill themselves with their blood policies.
they are an extremist group!
Another thing: if you are for banning JWs, would you have wanted to go to jail when you were a believing JW? Would that really have helped you to wake up?

Yes, apathy.
But I think non-aggressive "apostasy" is helping in this Information Age. Where would many of us be without Crisis of Conscience or JWFacts?
Education is another key to combating cults.
Unfortunately, this Russian ban is counteracting the educational work of "apostates".

Not being for the Russian ban is not the same as supporting the religion. In fact, a ban in Russia is a win/win for Watchtower.
The best method of counteracting cults such as Watchtower is not banning, but as was said regulate, tax, fine the organization. Not putting the rank and file people in jail simply for going to meetings, door knocking, ect... If any individual is guilty of actual criminal acts, that individual should go to jail, of course.
what is it with this pair?
why do they have to constantly have a bitch about guys like john cedars?
a very recent video of them shows them calling him a 'village idiot' and making other disparaging claims.
I can't understand why some activists spend bandwidth airing vendettas against other activists. Of course, it is not to say there was no cause. But it's a huge turn off when someone goes on a rant against a person.
Even with the Watchtower cult, it's not about being against individuals, but the system. Any personal problems with particular individuals (JW, ex-JW, non-JW) will remain just that.
an old friend, a "brother" called from italy.
updated on a few things.. most interestingly, he said they just had their final assembly at their "beautiful assembly hall".. why would it be the final assembly?
because it's sold!.
What Orphancrow said makes sense.
And it is the key to curbing Watchtower and cults in general. If governments came together and said, if can continue to mandate shunning, or the blood transfusion ban, but we'll tax you for it, I believe Watchtower would reform real quick.
fyi.

I noticed the picture in the newspaper was of the songbook with the naughty bit on the back cover. LOL.
just noticed this very peculiarly uncanny similarity between website logos.did the jw.0rg come first or after--did the wt copy another website's logo?.
.
It is hardly unique. I used to work for a company whose logo was their initials set in a blue box...this was back in the late 90's. It doesn't take a genius to come up with.
i've been thinking about this the past few days and curious what the honest consensus is here just for fun.. show of hands,.
is the governing body.... a: completely sincere.
they really do believe what they teach.. b: somewhat sincere.
I don't know.
D? All of the the above?
Was David Koresh sincere? Was Jim Jones? Was Marshal Applewhite?
we believe in marx freud and darwin.
we believe everything is ok as long as you don’t hurt anyone to the best of your definition of hurt, and to the best of your knowledge.. we believe in sex before, during, and after marriage.. we believe in the therapy of sin.. we believe that adultery is fun.. we believe that sodomy’s ok.. we believe that taboos are taboo.. we believe that everything’s getting better despite evidence to the contrary.. the evidence must be investigated, and you can prove anything with evidence.. we believe there’s something in horoscopes, ufo’s and bent spoons.. jesus was a good man just like buddha, mohammed, and ourselves.. he was a good moral teacher though we think, his good morals were bad.. we believe that all religions are basically the same-at least the one that we read was.. they all believe in love and goodness.. they only differ on matters of creation, sin, heaven, hell, god, and salvation.. we believe that after death comes the nothing, because when you ask the dead what happens.
they say nothing.. if death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its compulsory heaven for all excepting perhaps.
I'm not sure of the context of this or intent, but if taken literally, it would be nonsensical.
So much of that list is mutually exclusive. Not to mention stereotypical.
