The Danger of Settlements
by Tech49 ini was pondering the recent influx of lawsuits against wt, specifically in regards to the child abuse cases (ie.
conti, fessler, lopez, etc).. in each of these, wt has settled for an "undisclosed" amount, assumed to be in the millions of dollars each.
i know there are many many more cases, subject for a different thread i'm sure.. i was reading something completely unrelated a while back that mentioned the dangers of settlement agreements for a large corporation or business (not just wt).

That's all forgiven since they've one token black guy on the GB!
I now bristle at reading or hearing the word: warmly
They've made it so saccharine.

Observations from an Ex-Elder Part 2 - Cart Work
by doubtfull1799 inup until i left recently i was participating in the cart work.
in the location where we used to set up near our local mall we never had one person stop and take literature or stop and chat - other than fellow brothers.
i thought maybe it was just a bad location or something.

I remember when it was all about "not counting time but making the time count".
In street witnessing, for instance, I wasn't allowed to just stand there. I had to actually approach people. Sometimes walk with them while giving my presentation.
I would have loved this cart "witnessing".
I do wonder whose brainchild on the GB this idea was.

Bulldogg1877,
There is nobody in the Watchtower organization that can give you true "spiritual guidance". Nobody in that organization are your superior in regards this quest--you have the means to seek that within yourself.
Some might have the illusion of spiritual knowledge, the illusion of guidance, but as has been encouraged, if you truly factcheck it, it will quickly be exposed for the illusion it is.

Best statement a householder made to get you to leave them alone.
by Esse quam videri inknocked on a door on a saturday morning.
a window opened on the floor above me.
a grizzled old man stuck his head out and said, " we're all heathens here!

The best thing they did: They didn't answer the door.
Win/win.

When you were an active WT door knocker... How did you knock?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inon the door frame, on the door, door knocker, bell.. loud, very loud, regular, soft... gentle... or just pretended and never knocked at all?
we just had a city worker come a knocking on our front door and my responce after she left was, she should go down to the local kingdom haul and give lessons.
her knock was so loud, she could raise the dead.

Doorbell. Wait for 30 seconds to a minute and ring again. If there was no doorbell or it wasn't working I did a moderate knock.
Since I wasn't awake back then and thought I'd be bloodguilty if I just pretended, I did make a good faith effort, but at the same time knew how startling and annoying it was when someone came to my door. Like most JWs, I didn't want to be there either and was hoping nobody would answer.

Three congregations dissolved and a kingdom hall sold within a 50 mile radius in my area...
by UNCONDITIONAL LOVE inhas anyone else heard of these situations with congregations and halls in your area?
i thought the ground breaking mandatory pledge a little while ago was to keep up with "immense" growth?
how soon they forget... looks really bleak for the future of the wbats, the jw gravy train seems to be coming to a slow and agonizing yet inevitable stop.

It's become so regular that it is now "no news".
In the 80s and 90s, congregations split. Now they are re-forged and merged.
