Name one Watchtower date that they got correct
by FatFreek 2005 init was the year 2011. remember that one?
surprise, surprise -- it wasn't one of their predictions.
it was from one of their competitors, harold camping.. "religious leaders sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers.

They aren't a doomsday group because they've made up a definition of one that they don't match but others who had "wrong expectations" are. But outside of the loaded language of Watchtower, in the everyday vernacular, they are.
With 1914, JWs are ignorant about the history of the teaching and its ultimate roots or their kinship to the Second Adventists and Millerites. Dozens of groups all predicted the end of a 2520 year period from years the 19th century to1917 to 1934. It just so happened that one of those groups predicted a year where something happened...just not anything they were predicting. Then after the fact they revised what the prediction was all about.

The "true" religion would have the most transparency. After all, what would there to be to hide? The children of the light do their works in the light.

Who of us has ever thought, 'What's the point? I'm going to die anyway'
by Funchback inwhen i truly believed the jws had the truth, i usually reverted back to 'what's the point?
i'm going to die anyway' as a way to justify for doing so-called bad things or not doing so-called good things in jw land.. i shouldn't be watching this r-rated movie.
(why stop?

Yes, I got to the point where I thought I was going to be destroyed. Every Watchtower study, every assembly, was telling me I was doomed for very trivial reasons.
So I got to the point where it didn't seem to matter anymore. My fault was then feeling guilty, trying to go back and putting my head in the lion's mouth. But that helped me wake up in the end.

Will Governing Body stop preaching work?
by neat blue dog inat this year's annual meeting (2016), david "mark" sanderson asks the audience the question, "are you determined to keep on preaching with us until we say the work is completed?
" to which they respond with applause.
do you think that stopping the preaching work will ever be a part of the gb's long range plan?

Is that an exact quote?
"we say"?
It used to be "Jehovah's says".

Apparently worldly-made phones cannot keep apace with the celestial chariot.

The con is completed - comments from the US branch's LDC chief
by sir82 inrecently attended a special assembly day.. guest speaker was thomas chicky, a member of the us branch committee and the head of the us ldc (which has replaced the rbcs).. the last talk of the day is scheduled for an hour.
it was the usual boring mumbo-jumbo.
he appeared to have blasted through his hour-long outline in just about 45 minutes, so he "treated" us to informal comments on recent developments.. he commented on the new wt complex in fishkill ny.. then he dropped the bomb (well, to anyone with ears and at least 2 functioning synapses).. the following is not a word for quote, but presents the gist of his comments:.

This reminds me of what Jesus said about "calculating the cost", starting to build something, not being able to complete it and being ridiculed for it.
Perhaps a Bible prophesy is being fulfilled! :)

The Scientology Cure
by Worldling9 indid anyone see this program on investigation discovery?
it's a true story about scientology's lack of belief in therapy or meds for the treatment of mental illness, and the danger of denial.
though the dubs have eased up their stance on mental illness a bit, their attitudes remain similar.

Yep I watched this. This was analogous to the JW prohibition on blood transfusions.
Of course, when it comes to mental medication, many JWs seem to be on it. Elders have even encouraged me to take some anti-anxiety meds to "take the edge off" in field service and giving talks. They took these same meds. So did their pioneer wives. I've heard many in Bethel are as well.
Sometimes, of course, medication is needed. And especially for schizophrenia!

Another "pull the football away just before you can kick it" comment made by Circuit Assembly's special guest, Thomas Chicky
by sir82 ini started a thread on this guy's comments about building kingdom halls here.. the guy also said this (again, not a word for word quote, but the gist of his comments):.
"the primary hope of salvation is the resurrection.
jehovah does not promise anyone that he will survive armageddon.
-
Londo111
I remember a circuit overseer liken it to Plan A and Plan B.
Plan A is living thru Armageddon. Plan B is the resurrection.
I took plan C: See ya! I'm outta here!

I believe it has been shown that they have offshore bank accounts that have much less oversight that in places like the US.
