And 2 out of 3 who were raised JW are no longer...
This org likely has the highest turnover rate of them all.
for years the society has said that over 40,000 a year are disfellowshipped.
add to that the 10's of thousands who simply disassociate or fade.... so by that logic, would it be correct to assume there are actually more former witnesses on the earth than the number of current active witnesses ?
.
And 2 out of 3 who were raised JW are no longer...
This org likely has the highest turnover rate of them all.
so my niece (not thru my brother but rather my wife) had been talking about going to her prom.
the family had privately been somewhat doubtful that she would be allowed to go.
the problem was that they kept promising she would be allowed but history has shown us that her parents tend to get her excited about things and then drop the denial on her at the last minute.
may 21, 2016 to all congregations re: annual items for 2017.
No more calendar? This was clearly prophesied!
"And the angel which I saw standing upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his right hand to heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created the heaven and the things that are therein, and the earth and the things that are therein, and the sea and the things that are therein, that there shall be time no longer"--Revelation 10:6
Where's Lars when you need him?
(i am still a serving elder.
i have no idea how much longer i can stomach it.
timing is terrible for stepping down right now, though.
having grappled with this question, i decided to turn to the combined expertise at jwn.
my questions relate to the watchtower's self-determined appointment in 1919:.
how does the watchtower arrive at the year 1919 for its appointment?
Yep, the release of Rutherford and friends from prison is viewed as miraculous, a sign of divine approval on the organization. They point to interpretations of Ezekiel's bones, the two witnesses in Revelation 11 who are told "come on up here", the release of the Jews after the fall of Babylon, ect, ect...
Chronologically they don't even try to calculate it.
i was reading in another forum, that a letter to the elders instructed them to speak to anybody who persists in wearing tight pants.
if changes don't happen then the instructions are to disqualify him from being a publisher but it won't be announced to the congregation.
i am am curious to see if this letter will surface.
Where in the world is "tight pants" a "problem" in this organization?
When I was in, I never noticed it. Of course, I didn't spend any time contemplating the pants that men wore.
with the news these past days that bethels in both rome and belguim are being closed does anybody know how many bethels are left worldwide?
maybe it's time for a less serious thread .
i have just finished watching dirty dancing ( again ) .
what is your feel good movie , the one that makes you smile and cry happy tears ?
it's been reported on this forum that bethel speakers at this summer's conventions are asserting that the establishment of the united nations in 1945 was predicted in advance by the witnesses.
this is being presented as validation of the claim that the witnesses are god's one true organization directed by holy spirit.. .
the basis for this claim originates with a public address entitled, peace - can it last given by n.h. knorr at the new world theocratic assembly, on september 20 of 1942. .
anyone watching the path on hulu?
it's a bit extreme but a few similarities in dealing with the struggle of having doubt in possibly splitting up the family.
ones in blindly following..
I love this show. It shows the 'normal' side of people in a cult...that they are not mindless zombies, while at the same time the mechanisms of undue influence are always present.
Lots of similarities: The shunning of former members, not having close association of non-members, the struggle of a young person attempting to be normal and yet pleasing the cult, not being allowed to remain if it comes to light you don't believe...
I really love Hawk's story. I wish I was as smart as he was when I was his age.
