Not to sound like I wear aluminum foil hats, but has anyone come across any information on the high temperatures being as a result of the Earth being closer to the Sun do to a massive earthquake shifting the planet's orbit?

What was in print - "If they do a proper âbackground check,â they will not allow prejudice or hearsay to blind them.â
What is enforced - "If they do a proper âbackground check (using only Watchtower materials),â they will not allow prejudice or hearsay to blind them.â

Most doubts aren't created by apostates. They are created in a Kingdom Hall.
by pistolpete ini found this interesting perspective on reddit.. post;.
i remember the moment the first real crack in my faith happened as a jehovah's witness.
i was sitting in the kingdom hall during the watchtower study where, as is common, the article was talking about how the israelites as a nation abandoned jehovah.. "but wait," i thought, "having a nation represent him here on earth was part of his plan.

I agree with the title. My first doubt came at a Circuit Assembly. During a talk "New Light" was referred to in regards to the Watchtower changing it's stance on alternative compulsory service some 25 years after the Vietnam conflict. Elder. On the platform of a Circuit Assembly. Reading from a Watchtower outline.
Yep - no apostates!

The bus stop analogy
by slimboyfat insuppose we were naĂŻve observers, given the following data, and asked to draw a conclusion.
we see people gather at a busy bus stop several times a day.
at first one person, then another, and another, until they form a group.

I suggest reading the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. It gets into how the brain functions. The brain is an organ. Like any other organ its job is to keep us alive.
Not all thoughts you have are generated by you. Emotions are ways the brain communicates to you. They are like alarms and defense mechanisms with anger be the quickest, simplest of them all. In fact, anger is rooted in fear.
That is why it is import to quiet the non-stop talking in our heads the brain generates as a means to force us to deal with potential future problems. If you don't anxiety will get the better of you.
I have also heard it said by another author that our brains are geared to believe that which we think is beneficial to us. Sort of like living forever...in a paradise...

20 Years Occupying Afghanistan, Nothing Achieved
by Simon inso the occupation of afghanistan is coming to an end and, as predicted, they achieved absolutely nothing in that 20 years apart from:.
the death of 2,300+ service personnel and tens of thousands more seriously maimed or injured.. handing $billions or even $trillions of taxpayer dollars to defence contractors (so the military industrial complex wins, even if the military doesn't have a clear victory).. has this lengthy but short-term military occupation really changed anything in the country?
it doesn't appear so.. i said at the time that the us wouldn't have the staying power to enact real change.

Because all the do gooders in the world whether theyâre doing good for others or doing it for themselves are troublemakers. On the basis of âkindly let me help you or youâll drownâ, said the Monkey putting the fish safely up a tree. We white anglo saxon protestants; British, German, American. We have been on a rampage for the past hundred or more years to improve the world. We have given the benefits of our culture, our religion, our technology to everybody except perhaps the Australian aborigines. And we have insisted that they receive the benefits of our culture even our political styles our democracy you better be dead Democratic I will shoot you. And having conferred these blessings all over the place we wonder why everybody hates us. Because sometimes doing good to others and even doing go to oneself is amazingly destructive. Because itâs full of conceit. How do you know whatâs good for other people? How do you know whatâs good for you? If you say you want to improve. Then you want to know whatâs good for you. But obviously you donât because if you did you would be improved. So we donât know. - Alan Watts
I once asked a soldier, "If this is a 'War on Terror,' how does Terror surrender and what are the terms of surrender?" Just like we have a "War on Crime, War on Drugs, War on Poverty." How do these things sit at a table and negotiate a peaceful surrender or at least a cease fire?
As a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel told me, "Either we fight them here or we fight them over there." Why are we fighting again? Because they hate us and our way of life? Bunch of guys from Middle Eastern countries hijack 4 commercial airliners. 2 are crashed intentionally into the Twin Towers killing thousands. 1 is flown into the Pentagon. The fourth was supposed to be flown into the White House. So the U.S. asks for a coalition of countries to invade Afghanistan and occupy it for 20 years to keep the hostile civilian citizens too busy fighting for their backyard to fly more planes into U.S. buildings?
Who are these guys? Foreign military assets sent on a sanctioned mission by their respective government? No! They are everyday Joes from 3rd world nations who are okay with living under 5th Century rules and lifestyles. Sure, they want to spread that way of life globally, but they have a history centuries long of a lack of cooperation and infighting so bad that they can't accomplish anything in their home countries let alone around the world.
The whole Arab Spring non-sense the U.S. got involved in a years back is a prime example of do gooders being troublemakers. I cannot believe the U.S. really thought Libya was going to establish some sort of "Democracy" when its leader was overthrown/killed. In the end it only made things worse for the U.S. and got their ambassador and other U.S. citizens killed.

We keep saying âOrwellianâŚ.â YikesâŚ
by DATA-DOG inthis is so eerily similar to the whitewashing and revisionist history practices by the governing body that itâs downright scary.
in reality itâs far, far worse as the powers behind the current practices have real power and influence.

Censorship is counterproductive. Understanding is important. Understanding is the key to resolution. When both sides hear each other out for the purpose of understanding, not to make an argument, then resolution is possible.
The best way we can fight against this is a wise use of our 2 most valuable resources - time and attention.
Time and attention, your time and attention, are the 2 commodities that have made the most powerful corporations on our planet in all of history - Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, and Twitter.
These corporations are selling your attention and time to the highest bidder. They are making billions off of it. You make nothing and literally suffer mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically for it.
The least we can do is delete our social media accounts. I did. It made a huge improvement on my life. I also dumped my smartphones. Smartphone are an anxiety causing leash that keeps the puppet strings attached to us 24/7.
Do you purchase products that are advertised on social media? Those companies line the pockets of corporations that are the tip of the spear of censorship. Write these companies and tell them that. Tell them you won't support any company that support censorship.

Serious bible students questions about the bible
by TTWSYF inmany jws (and others) are serious about their biblical studies, but don't ask the right questions.
in basic journalism one learns to ask the right questions which in my years here, i've never hear asked.. who, what, where, by what help, by whose help, why, how and when.
these are all basic questions when researching anything that you want to write an article or paper on what ever related subject.. who wrote/created the bible?.

I believe it was Greek philosophers who came up with the rules for debate. They had a phrase - "Dig deep until you hit bedrock." This referred to getting to the foundation or the end of questioning.
Who wrote the books of the Bible and what evidence is there to prove this?
Who decided what books would make it into the Bible, what was the criteria, and why were books removed 1,200 years after the approved list of books was made?

What would happen if the Watchtower decided no more meeting at Kingdom Halls, only Zoom?
by pistolpete iniâm seeing my hard core believing relatives slowly losing faith that the watchtower is the organization that âgodâ is using to represent him on earth.. just about all the churches in their area have opened up.. but not the watchtower.. this is having an affect on the faith of even the old timers.
now the only ones who are still holding the faith are the female jws and only those past 70 years of age.
even my old male jw relative past 70 are starting to say that it canât be jehovahâs organization because the other churches are all open and god supposed organization who is supposed to preach the warning message is still closed with no open in sight.

I remember when I was little, one of my uncles told me that the director of the James Bond movie got one of his ideas from a Jehovah Witnesses who jumped on top of crocodiles to make it across a river and to the Convention.
I remember when I was little I used to daydream about James Bond movies during the Conventions when they talked about Witnesses who would cross crocodile infested waters to get to the meetings.

My State's Governor ended all COVID-19 restrictions for our State about 90 days ago. I see Mormons out doing their preaching work. I see that the local churches have not only gone back to having services, but I can see them constructing additions to their facilities to handle the new inflow of members.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom Hall in the neighborhood remains vacant. I haven't had a Witness visit my house in over 2 years. 2 consecutive virtual Memorials. 2 consecutive virtual Regional Conventions.
Why go back? It wouldn't surprise me if they took this whole thing 100% virtual. Elders would be told to assign to brothers who gets to staff carts and those brothers would have to store the carts at their homes after hours.
The Watchtower could sell off ALL Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls. That money would be diverted to their studios and keep the zombie walking for decades.
