Sir Robert Peel is the father of modern policing or civilian policing. He gave the Nine Peelian Principles of Policing -
- To prevent crime and disorder, as an alternative to their repression by military force and severity of legal punishment.
- To recognise always that the power of the police to fulfil their functions and duties is dependent on public approval of their existence, actions and behaviour, and on their ability to secure and maintain public respect.
- To recognise always that to secure and maintain the respect and approval of the public means also the securing of the willing co-operation of the public in the task of securing observance of laws.
- To recognise always that the extent to which the co-operation of the public can be secured diminishes proportionately the necessity of the use of physical force and compulsion for achieving police objectives.
- To seek and preserve public favour, not by pandering to public opinion, but by constantly demonstrating absolutely impartial service to law, in complete independence of policy, and without regard to the justice or injustice of the substance of individual laws, by ready offering of individual service and friendship to all members of the public without regard to their wealth or social standing, by ready exercise of courtesy and friendly good humour, and by ready offering of individual sacrifice in protecting and preserving life.
- To use physical force only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient to obtain public co-operation to an extent necessary to secure observance of law or to restore order, and to use only the minimum degree of physical force which is necessary on any particular occasion for achieving a police objective.
- To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
- To recognise always the need for strict adherence to police-executive functions, and to refrain from even seeming to usurp the powers of the judiciary, of avenging individuals or the State, and of authoritatively judging guilt and punishing the guilty.
- To recognise always that the test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them.
I have been in law enforcement for over 20 years with the last 11 as a police officer. What I am seeing is that human society has ignored the 7th Principle - the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
Every member of a free society is responsible for policing. Most of society has excused itself from its duty by using the mentality "I pay taxes. It's not my job." However, society has also adopted a "Want my cake and eat it too" mentality, that is to say "It's not my job and I have no idea how to do the job, but I will determine how the job will be carried out."
No other profession in human society is Monday morning quarterbacked like law enforcement ("policing").
A little over 1,000 people are killed annually in the U.S. by law enforcement. Killed. Not Murdered. Justified homicide.
Conversely over 250,000 people are killed annually in the U.S. by medical malpractice. When was the last time the news media crucified doctors for this?
Is there a problem with police culture? Oh yes! Trust me. I about ruined myself over that non-sense.
I plan being an advocate of police reform. This includes educational programs for the general public and law makers on what really goes on in the streets as well as removing the toxic culture that has infiltrated policing.

I agree 100%. The Roman Catholic Church is the writer of the New Testament and originator of Christianity.

Janitorial service at one time was the number 1 means of gainful employment for JWs. When my parents got married they wee pioneers. They lived in an apartment above a garage and paid the bills by cleaning banks after hours.
Like so many Witnesses, the have no retirement or health insurance. Contributing to a retirement system was believed to show a lack of faith in 1)the end coming before you needed a retirement or 2)that Jehovah would provide. Unlike my parents, I picked a career. I'll be eligible for retirement at 52 and will be living in a beach house.

Wedding Rings.
by Lost in the fog inwe have long queried why so-called things of pagan or religious origin like christmas or easter are banned by the wts but the use of wedding rings were not.. i was talking about this with a friend who follows a wiccan path of belief and he has sent me the following information from one of his magic magazines.. quote: .
" why do we wear our wedding ring on our ‘ring finger’ ?
thus, to properly activate the ring finger we need to wear a golden ring on it.

Bridesmaids and groomsmen are also a wedding practice that involves non-christian religious beliefs.

The last generation of JW’s
by HiddenPimo inif you take a moment to look at the demographics of your congregation (if you’re pimo), i think you will notice that the youngest elders are in their late thirty’s and early 40’s.. that is the generation that i was part of when still in as an elder,.
we were last ones to work on all the quickbuilds and the big conventions.
we were the last ones to remember the original jw way of life with the gatherings all the time and the books studies in the homes.

Unfortunately the Jehovah's Witnesses religion is like a mutating, antibiotic resistant strain of herpes. I think this is one of the reasons it has lasted this long. If it hadn't adopted the changes it has over the past decade it would have died in the U.S., which would ultimately have killed it world wide.
I grew up as a Witness in the 80s and 90s. I don't even recognize the religion in its current form. There has been a complete reversal on Witnesses studying and educating themselves in Bible research. I would never have guessed that as time progressed, allegedly bringing us closer to Armageddon, there would be fewer meetings and publications.

Stopping Thought Stopping.
by Peeringin inim sure that many on this forum will be aware of the thought-stopping techniques that are taught by jws/wts to suppress difficult thoughts and overcome cognitive dissonance in favour of reverting back to belief in wts.. often in conversation these will be clear verbal cues that can sound unnatural during the course of a conversation, as though an individual is temporarily reading a script to overcome a difficult point.. my question to you all is this:.
are there any methods or resources that people are aware of that can help to break through a thought stopping mechanism when it is noticeably in effect?
a question perhaps, or technique that will encourage the individual to think the thought through in its entirety?.

How can you call it "The Truth" when much of the belief system is based on the opinions of 8 men (aka: Bible based principles are still not Biblical and are man made rules) or it can change or flip flop (aka "New light")?
Truth does not change. It is a constant. New understanding makes old understanding false in the present just as much as it was in the past. Calling it "The Truth" is the antonym of what it truly is - a belief and a belief is just a nice way of saying opinion.
