the conservatives have won in ontario and the liberals who held power there for 15 years crashed so hard they didn't get enough seats to even retain official party status.
people are sick of them and the mess they make!.
hopefully this is the start of a wave across canada that will sweep the liberals from positions where they can do harm, ending with the king of the clowns, trudeau..
Trudeau prefers the gender-neutral title Royal Person of Clowns.
seems like such an obviously correct decision to overturn the previous overreach - it should never have been necessary to go to the supreme court but happened because the rights of the religious were being ignored.. as the fundamental level, no one should be able to compel you to work for them or to provide services that go against your beliefs, and certainly not have the government be able to force you to comply.. if this was allowed there would be so many unreconcilable situations that would clog up courts over nonsense.. i also have little patience for these activists that intentionally look to be offended.
it really doesn't do their cause any good to go round looking to make trouble for people.
it's also misguided because it ends up strengthening religious rights over effectively stupid issues.. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/04/us/politics/supreme-court-sides-with-baker-who-turned-away-gay-couple.html.
Simon hit the nail on the head -
The crux of the case is not that a baker refused to sell a gay couple a cake for their wedding. The baker refused to enter into a contract with a gay couple to make a wedding cake that celebrated gay marriage, which he is morally opposed to due to his religious beliefs.

Dozy -
The UK government being more secular has nothing to do with it. It's about statism vs living free and the concept of feeling morally superior. Morality is subjective, not objective.

Wow! This thread got 8 pages deep before I found it. Time to join the fray...
This court case needs to be boiled down to the simplest of terms -
In a free society, should a private citizen who owns a private business be compelled by the government to provide goods or service to to another private citizen?
Answer - No. Never.
Living in a free society can be a two-edged sword. There is a difference between right or wrong and legal or illegal. Some things many deem wrong are not illegal.
Racism and bigotry are real. Bigotry towards gender, sexuality, religion, etc. are all alive and practiced daily in societies free or otherwise. However, in a free society, morality should never be compelled by the government. Unfortunately groups on both sides of the spectrum are demanding the government impose their version of morality on the populace.
In the United States, only the government must provide its services to all persons regardless of who they are.
The only thing that upsets me about this story is that 2 out of the 9 Supreme Court Justices voted to compel the citizens of this nation to use their time and resources to do something they do not wish to do.
i think gb loesch has made some pretty bold statements that could be put in quotes with his picture attached could be a real killer!.
believe and obey only the faithful slave, don't believe any negative comment about us in the press believe only us.. google: child molestation watchtower bible and tract society, klick on wikki.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/jehovah%27s_witnesses%27_handling_of_child_sex_abuse.
okay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.
they reduced printing of mags.
they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.
I think having a monthly Assembly. Each Assembly probably averages $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 a pop. There's no way it costs that much to run a one day Assembly.
If the average congregation has 100 publishers and the WTBS charges $10.00 a head, that's $12,000.00 per congregation per year.
anyone watching the stanley cup?
so exciting with las vegas golden knights playing second game against the washington capitals?
can't wait for it to start.
I hope Las Vegas wins the Cup. I watched game 1 and it was a great game. I missed game 2 last night. I'm sure it was a nail biter.
a friend of mine was telling me about her recent trip to peru.
she said she had trouble with the altitude in certain areas of peru but the locals offered her a tea derived from the coca leaf and that helped tremendously with her symptoms.. i began to think about how i would have handled the situation as a jw given that coca contains an alkaloid that is used to produce cocaine.
in its natural form, the content is very low and the locals use it as a stimulant similar to coffee.. however, as a jw i would have probably refused to drink it viewing it as something similar to a product derived from tobacco leaves.
Watchtower dogma on tobacco and narcotics use is dogma. Tobacco use is prohibited as it is "unclean" and the body is a "temple to worship Jehovah". Illegal narcotics are shunned because the Greek word for "spiritism" translated into "druggery". Supposedly use of narcotics "opens your mind up to the demons".
I know chewing on betel but has been denounced by the Watchtower. I would imagine drinking tea from the coca plant would be viewed similarly even though it is nothing like snorting several lines of cocaine. I would be surprised if marijuana use that is prescribed by a doctor in a state that it is legal is accepted by the Watchtower. I would imagine that it's all purely an image thing when it comes to using the Devil's lettuce.
tommie robinson has reported often about what he sees as the demise of british society by the imposition of 'sharia' norms.. https://www.infowars.com/update-tommy-robinson-gets-13-months-for-livestreaming-outside-courthouse/?utm_source=nightly+newsletter&utm_campaign=9e3ceb30f6-email_campaign_2018_05_25_03_10&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e12661a83c-9e3ceb30f6-38680565.
