How many do you figure are converted through the door to door ministry?
by HereIgo ini regular pioneered for 2 years and never have actually converted anyone through the door to door work, in fact, i only knew a few individuals that joined this way.
most were born-in or at least had some type of family influence.
i had several bible studies but they all got cold feet when things got serious and potential baptism was discussed.

My experience was few to none and those who did ended up leaving, being disfellowshipped, or both.

What's the deal with the anointed class, why aren't they JW rulers?
by TTWSYF inso i never got in with the jws far enough to know the detailed teachings regarding the 144k going to heaven.
they are rulers with jesus in heaven?.
shouldn't they be in charge of the wts?

Jehovah's Witnesses have actively persecuted their own who claim to be of the Annointed. If you weren't part of the Governing Body, at Bethel, or really old your claim of being of the 144,000 was frowned upon and you were looked at skeptically. High ranking members of the organization actively sought out such ones like the Spanish Inquisition and trumped up charges to disfellowship them.
Part of the reason is, at one time, the organization had certain rules that Annointed brothers who were elders automatically got put in charge of certain things. This caused envy among elders, circuit, and district overseers who were of the Other Sheep.

Freudian slip in last Sunday's WT?
by The Fall Guy ini had this point highlighted to me yesterday by a dyed-in-the-wool j.w.
who is beginning to see cracks in his beloved golden calf of warwick.
so encouraging to hear his disgruntlement with org-related topics.. “many in the christian congregation may not have expected their loved ones to die this side of armageddon.” (july 2017 study wt).

Here's what I get from that quote:
"Many of you idiots were dumb enough to believe that this system would end around 1994. This is because of our teaching that this generation would by no means pass away. By "this generation" we meant people born when Jesus sign manifested in 1914. Well, we received new light in the way of "Overlapping Generations". Get over it you good-for-nothing slaves and get back to work! Also, send us all of your money because this overlapping generation is going to endure for a looooooong time."
Am I right?

Ever bump in to a JW acquaintance at the gym?
by Vetiver inthis has happened to me on 4 occasions.
3 times it was an elder and i simply pretended i didn't know him and avoided eye contact.
the other time was someone of my age that didn't really talk to me of the opposite sex.

I'm surprised!
1 Timothy 4:8 always seemed to be the scripture that made Witnesses shy away from the gym. After all, that's time you could of spent on "kingdom interests".
It also made me wonder why being obese isn't a disfellowshipping offense. If smoking is a disfellowshipping sin because the smoker is intentionally desecrating his body ("temple") then why isn't sucking down $0.99 cheeseburgers at McDonalds? You are always more likely to run into a Witness around 11:00AM at a McDonalds (field service break) than at anytime at a gym.

The Great Pyramid and the Flood of Noah
by TerryWalstrom inthe great pyramid and the flood of noah.
_________________________________if your world view rests firmly upon the foundation of bible accuracy matching the reality of history, sooner or later you’ll crash into the question of when the great pyramid was built.why?let’s see why…2 peter 3:5-6 complete jewish bible (cjb).
5 but, wanting so much to be right about this, they overlook the fact that it was by god’s word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, 6 and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed.________________________________________________.

The pyramids of Egypt and the "Great Flood of Noah's Day" are some prime examples of what woke me up to the truth about the Truth and Bible based religions in general.
There are those who believe, based on their personal research, that the pyramids of Egypt predate the Egyptians. The Egyptian government will not let any scientist who subscribes to this theory anywhere near the pyramids. The bigger point is that this is just one of the many reasons why there never was a global flood as described in the Bible book of Genesis.

Translating accurately is really f*&%$ing hard!
by TTWSYF ini wanted to relay an example that i heard about translating difficulties.
take the 5 word phrase.
"i didn't eat your sandwich".

What you are referring to is the fact that 93% of human communication is non-verbal. Gestures, facial expression, voice stress, etc. all have more to do with communication between people than the actual words used.
A better example is one my college Spanish professor gave to my class -
My professor was at a restaurant with a student whose first language is Spanish, but was learning English. The student asked the waiter for a chicken sandwich. The waiter replied, "I'm sorry. We have run out of chicken."
The student envisioned a giant in the kitchen with the kitchen staff running out from inside the chicken.

Does anyone under the age of 25 know what KFC stands for? (What about WT or JW?)
by stuckinarut2 inas we have seen, the society has so smoothly rolled out the rebranding of the organization in just a few short years!.
(in fact, i remember a thread post here a few years back, where it was mentioned that all halls are going to get the jw.org signs on them.
it was initially laughed off and doubted) https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/279409/jw-org-signs-put-on-all-kingdom-halls-new-directive.

Stuckinarut2:
Interesting question. Jehovah's Witnesses almost pride themselves on the constant re-naming/rebranding of their religion. I have heard it stated on multiple occasions from the platform that they often consider this a safeguard. They will use this practice as a means to test those who are unknown to them and claim to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses as to whether or not they are active.
Case in point - I left before the new title "Congregation Overseer of the Body of Elders" was given to the congregation Presiding Overseers. If I walked into the local Kingdom Hall claiming I was from another congregation I might be asked "Who is you COBE (literally spoken as the initials or even pronounced "Ko-Be")? To which I would have to ask, "What is that?" In turn I would be dismissed as a non-Witness or an inactive Witness who hasn't kept up with "God's celestial chariot."

Former Elder insights on recent Child Abuse Cases & changes in the Org
by cha ching inthis former elder, was briefly featured on pbs segment about child abuse among jehovah's witnesses.
in this youtube interview, he is asked about some of his experiences in the org from 1971 to the present.. at about 16:10 he starts telling his story about his involvement with trey bundy, and how he got to know jonathan kendrick, from the candace conti case.. for some reason, this video is starting 15 minutes in, and i can't get the link to start at zero.... you can always rewind ;-).

This video was well worth the time to watch.
I appreciate this former elder pointing out the hypocrisy of Jehovah's Witnesses. Witnesses ask people to question their religion and do research, but forbid doing the same of their own religion.

When JWs Pray for Houston
by NJ501 inwhen i hear prayers given by brothers why do they only pray for other jws not all people??
i remember hearing a comment from my mother saying 4000 jws are affected by this...and i'm thinking yes that is sad but what about the tens of thousands other people affected?
too me it just doesn't seem right to just pray for jws but to pray for all victims.
-
truth_b_known
It has always been common among JWs that when a major natural disaster strikes to pray "for our brothers effected in this area."
