What I have not been able to figure out is how they know the first resurrection started in 1919?

How do we get to 1914 and then 1919?
by God_Delusion inokay, this might sound like a really stupid question, but after researching this matter for the last hour, i still have no idea why the watchtower society points to 1914 and 1919 using the 70 weeks theory.. don't get me wrong, i know all about 607 b.c.e., but i am having trouble understanding why the prophecy of the 70 weeks has been added.
whose idea was it to add the 70 week business into the mix?.
i've researched the following websites and jwn threads so far, yet i'm still hitting blanks:.

Allow me to try. It has to do with the 3 1/2 year period. If you want scriptures and references, I will have to look it up. The "seven times" end in the fall of 1914.
First line of evidence then is the "time, times, and half a time" of Dan. and Rev. This amounts to 3 1/2 years, which start at the end of the year 1914, concluding in 1919. Second line of evidence is Jesus' second inspection of the temple. He did this at the end of his earthly ministry. If he became king in 1914 he would have inspected the temple then for the first time. Second time would be in 1919, according to "time, times and half a time" = 3 1/2 years.
Here they also use the "two witnesses" in Revelation. problem with this is the "two witnesses" would be killed by the beast from the abyss, which they later identify as the League and the UN. However the League would only be created after the death of the "two witnesses." How can they be killed by an entity that did not exist?

Glad it's going well and as expected. At least you knew what to expect. if anybody confronts you about it again, remind them that you want to be able to support yourself and your close family in line with 1 Tim. 5:8. In addition, people in the Bible that were well-educated were Moses, Daniel, Luke, Paul, and especially Jesus, who learnt from His Father all he knew. And about hairstyle, the Bible indicates that men must have shorter hair than women, that's all. If they have a problem with you hair, ask them to demonstrate by Scripture. Bible characters had beards, but they have a problem with that. That should tell you something.

by allyouneedislove inis there any biblical support for having the pioneer arangement, that the wt provides?
even if you don't agree with it, could someone please provide the wt references that show biblical support for it?

To add to Blondie's references, here are a few that indicate that JWs view their pioneer ranks as "an army". They are compared to locust swarm (in Joel and Revelation). In most of these cases it does refer to the publishers as a whole, however with the pioneers putting in most of the hours. In that sense the word "pioneer" could be understood as "foot soldier" (from Old French).

19 God’s modern-day locust army has given a thorough witness in “the city” of Christendom. (Joel 2:9) They have done so throughout the world. They are still climbing over all obstacles, entering millions of homes, approaching people on the street, speaking to them over the phone, and contacting them in any way possible as they declare Jehovah’s message. Indeed, they have distributed billions of Bible publications and will distribute many, many more in their ceaseless ministry—both publicly and from house to house.—Acts 20:20, 21.
Re 146-148
18 The modern-day locusts had a job to do. The Kingdom good news had to be preached. Errors had to be exposed. Lost sheep had to be found. As the locusts went about these tasks, the world was forced to sit up and take notice. In obedience to the angels’ trumpet blasts, the John class has continued to expose Christendom as deserving of Jehovah’s adverse judgments. In response to the fifth trumpet, a particular aspect of these judgments was emphasized at a convention of the Bible Students in London, England, May 25-31, 1926. This featured a resolution, “A Testimony to the Rulers of the World,” and a public talk at the Royal Albert Hall on “Why World Powers Are Tottering—The Remedy,” the complete text of both of these being printed in a leading London newspaper the following day. Later, the locust band distributed worldwide, as a tract, 50 million copies of that resolution—a torment indeed to the clergy! Years later, people in England still spoke of this stinging exposé.

(Ps. 110:3) The dewdrop simile is fitting, for dew is linked to abundance and blessing. (Genesis 27:28) Dewdrops are gentle and refreshing. In this time of Christ’s presence, young Christians willingly and eagerly offer themselves in great numbers. Just like refreshing dewdrops, many young men and women cheerfully serve God and assist their fellow worshipers.—Psalm 71:17.

(Ps 68:11) 14 It is of interest that in many lands, such as the United States, about 75 percent of all pioneer publishers are sisters, giving force to the words of Psalm 68:11: “Jehovah himself gives the saying; the women telling the good news are a large army.” Our sisters are to be commended in that they are doing the greater part of the field work. Their skillful teaching at home Bible studies is leading many to the truth, and married sisters who are loyally supportive of husbands with many congregation duties are also to be warmly praised.—Proverbs 31:10-12; Ephesians 5:21-25, 33.

American Theocracy
by Band on the Run ini am currently reading this book.
the author is opinionated and not a fundamentalist or evangelist for certain.
my experience is so eastern american.

Does the author touch on the Muslim phenomenon? The Muslims seem to be up-and-coming, flourishing in some parts of the world, some of them becoming quite vocal and militaristic. That's quite a fundamental religion and does not have its origin in the US. Something I've been wondering about.

Psychopathic personality: Personality disorder evidenced by antisocial, nonconforming, amoral behaviour, inability to form deep attachments or to learn from experience.
Schizophrenic tendencies: Emotional, intellectual and behavioral disturbances. Withdrawl from reality.
These are symptoms of certain very treatable conditions. These options and their origin you will have to examine with the help of professionals, i.e., psychologists or psychiatrists. When you do that, your purpose must not be "to fool" those around you (which only makes you a better than average con-man), but in order to help yourself.

Are YOU a Thinker?
by alamb inthe recovering thinker.
hi, my name is bob, and i am a recovering thinker..... it started out innocently enough: i began thinking at meetings now and then to loosen up.
inevitably though, one thought led to another and soon i was more than just a theocratic thinker.

I am in the process of being disfellowshipped because of being a free thinker. It did bother me to start off with, but now I am getting use to the idea. If I stop thinking that means I am dead, and I'm not dead yet. So I rather spend the rest of my days in freedom than in Zombieland.

Congrats, MsG, you're an inspiration to us all! Hopefully some of the brothers will be supportive, but don't expect much. Gird the loins and keep your head down. This is not like being spoon-fed at school, this is the real thing. And what you put in, you will get out.
