I have a question about the whole ark thing... As someone who is not (and has never been) a Witness, I'm not 100% on what their teachings are with the ark... I used to think that surely they saw it as a metaphor - though I understand now that they believe it to be a literal, accurate thing!!??

I just wonder how it is explained to the Witnesses in order to get them to believe that Noah realy got 2 of EVERY SINGLE SPECIES!!!!! It's not like '2 cats, 2 horses' - but 2 Ragdolls, 2 Burmese, 2 Arabs, 2 Thoroughbreds etc. Besides them not being able to fit (not to mention the smell after a few days - and food for all of them!) - what about the animals that are only native to a particular country..?

Sorry if I'm a bit off topic Blondie, but seeing as there is so much mentioned about the flood - it triggered me to ask..?? :)

The Witnesses stance on seeing a psychologist?

can anyone clear this up for me?.

i was under the impression that witnesses were strongly discouraged from seeking help from any therapist / psychologist outside of the organisation.

this always made sense to me because i'd imagine that many psychologists would realise that a witness belongs to a very high control group once they start speaking to them.. .

I will do my best to keep this relative away from any sort of JW counsellor! I know that another of my relatives (mother inlaw) does speak with the Witness counsellor - whether they are an elder or not I'm not sure. In saying that, she's pretty straight and deeply involved in 'the truth' - so I don't really think she would even have any sins to confess! Interesting about the waiver they have to sign though!!! That's so controlling it's unbelievable!

This always made sense to me because I'd imagine that many psychologists would realise that a Witness belongs to a very high control group once they start speaking to them.

Anyway - my Witness relative has very recently been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I was worried that she wouldn't be able to get the appropriate help, however she said that she will be seeing a non-witness specialist and this is totally acceptable because the Witnesses recognise mental health issues (I guess they'd have to with the high number of Witnesses that suffer from mental health problems!) and individuals are encouraged to seek help as they see fit.

What is your understanding of this? Have you ever been told as a Witness that you shouldn't see a psychologist? Is there inconsistencies with this guidleine from congregation to congregation, or country to country??

Ok, thanks NC, makes sense now. Well, I understand how the Witnesses explain it away - I don't think it actually makes sense!

What's the principle behind a woman making anything she touches at the time of her period unlean? Or maybe it was just that they didn't have 'sanitary towels or tampons' - and it was an obvious literal instruction ;)

Thanks everyone - though my head is still spinning a bit :)

I'm just wondering how they explain not following a law that came directly from god? I guess one of the main bits that strikes me (and admittedly I am not completely familiar with the whole law) is the bit about women with their periods being unclean. Obviously a God who created women would not say this, so I don't believe it could be from God... But anyway, that's sort of beside the point (I'm confusing myself - I don't even know what my own point is, sorry haha)

What does that mean - how did he fulfil it (by dying on the stake?) and why did that mean it ended? Surely if it was God's law, it would not change..??

just came across this post, where a disfellowshipped blogger posted the letter from his witness mother in which she cuts off the relationship between them.

although i was the one to slam the door and cut off communication with my viper of a mother, my heart goes out to this guy - it's to their shame that the witnesses allow their religion to do this to family..

This woman is choosing a God -over her own son - which let's face it - God may or may not (probably not really) exist - and even if he does - may or may not agree with the shunning policy... Probably not, though - if he is a god of love

As I understand it, they don't follow the Law, however do take some principles from it.

So - do they think that the Mosaic Law came directly from God? (and if so, why do they no longer follow it).

Also, how do they know which parts they are meant to ignore and which parts they should 'take the principles from'.

Is anyone able to explain their stance around Mosaic Law to me?

New Chapter: I would never live my life in harmony with scriptural principles. Have you read that thing? My morals are much higher than anything the scriptures have to offer. It would be a downgrade.
