Kosonen, what is your approach to God? Despite my occasional snarky comments I'm still someone who has believed for longer than I've disbelieved. I had a personal relationship with God and it was important to me.

I get what you're saying Stan. Bible verses were used as control levers against us. Who we made friends with, who we married, how hard we worked for the cult, whether we sacrificed careers or shunned friends or family.
All of these abuses and more were justified by one scripture or another. I'm too old and thick skinned to be 'triggered' by posts like Kosonen's but yeah, I can see how they'd have a negative impact on some.
I just find it inane now.

using a phone app nowadays, there are earthquakes detected in one place after another but is this what jesus meant and did they have so many earthquakes throughout the centuries affter his prophecy or are these modern day detected earthquakes unique to this epoch?
