New letter about Circuit Conventions accounting procedures
by Hecce ini hope that one of the friends will post the letter soon.
i heard that on 3/27/2017 a letter with new instructions about the accounts at the circuit conventions was released.
the letter seems to adopt many of the corrections that had been suggested here at the forum, among other things during the accounts report they will be no mention of the per capita and the amount due is going to be released only to the elders.

At the last SAD day I was in attendance, they announced that they had 6000 excess from the last assembly, but the elders voted to send 3500 as a donation to the WT, leaving only 2500. Then they announced that the circuit had a deficit for the day because there had not been enough donations to cover the costs that day (about 9000). Duh, I thought, then why did you send the 3500 to the WT?

Watchtower/Bethelite Volunteers and US Self Employment or FICA Tax?
by EnlightenedEphesian inwith so many aging bethelites being "laid off" after years of volunteer service, what hope do they have of collecting any social security retirement?
i ask because i recently learned that my mother will not receive any government retirement benefits because she did not work enough to collect the 40 credits required.
this got me to thinking about bethel volunteers.

To my knowledge they do not pay into Social Security, and the WT does not contribute either. I <think> that is why the Bethelites take a 'Vow of Poverty' and become members of the 'Special Order of Full Time Servants' or something like that. It is similar to a monk in a monastery. This is how the WT avoids paying into FICA and into Worker's Comp. -

Did you have a favorite pub . . .
by compound complex inpublication, that is?.
i just found all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial in storage.
i enjoyed studying it, as well as make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine.. our thinking has changed, of course, but, back then, did you have a wt publication you especially liked?.

I'm with Outlaw, I prefer a PUB to a pub.
But seriously, the AID book and the Greatest Man book. The All Scripture Inspired book wasn't bad either. I remember seeing a non-JW Sunday School Teacher running off xerox prints of pages from the Greatest Man book for her lessons each week.

Did the serpent have legs before the curse?
by Acluetofindtheuser ingenesis 3:14 – “then jehovah god said to the serpent: “because you have done this, you are the cursed one out of all the domestic animals and out of all the wild animals of the field.
on your belly you will go, and you will eat dust all the days of your life.”.
the old gb and gb 2.0 differ on this matter.

All I can say is that the artwork in the old literature was a lot more interesting than nowadays.

I'm afraid we're not much better. The congregation listed in the second post is in South Andros in the BAHAMAS. Good luck getting to Cuba from there

Was looking at my childhood book "From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained" I found something interesting.
by Still Totally ADD ini was showing a friend of mine what kind of books my parents allowed me to read when i was very young.
no children books that was age related but the so called orange paradise book was my only children book i had.
she was taken back on how violent it was and showing little kids being killed by god was just unspeakable.

That was the book I 'studied' when I was in the second grade, since it was, believe it or not, considered a children's book.

The Study edition of Luke NWT Now on JW.ORG...great, now they dig even deeper into the pile of muck
by NikL inso had to check it out to see what it's all about.. what i got was more cloudiness.
as in luke 2:9.... suddenly jehovah’s angel stood before them, and jehovah’s glory gleamed around them, and they became very fearful.
the notes point out.... jehovah’s angel: this expression occurs many times in the hebrew scriptures, starting at ge 16:7. when it occurs in early copies of the septuagint, the greek word agʹge·los (angel; messenger) is followed by the divine name written in hebrew characters.

What is the 'study edition of Luke'? I've never heard of it before this thread.

I would say that 99% of the JWs I know are not even aware of the issue of the NT not containing the divine name. They just don't get it.
