Jehovah's Witness pi$$ing contest
by hoser inok more about the jw wedding i attended.
there were these two couples at our dinner table that were having an all out pissing competition as to who was the most spiritual.
they were comparing who was in "the truth" the longest, who pioneered where and for how long.

What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015
by ABibleStudent inim not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.
it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.
the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

Hmm, for some reason I wasn't expecting the baptisms to go down this year. In these parts (midwest US) I have seen more baptisms this year than in recent years. Mostly born-ins, as they seem to be on a push to get them baptized. But that is just what I have seen personally. -

A Brief History of Racism in Watchtower Publications
by cedars ini've just completed a lengthy article on the history of racism in the society's publications.
many people (including myself, until recently) aren't aware that the society's early publications were brimming with racist rhetoric, and this only calmed down as the public mood towards racism changed, most notably with the civil rights movement in the 50s/60s.. a few "headliners" from the article are:.
russell segregated blacks from whites for viewings of the photodramarussell believed that the skin of a black man would turn white during the millennial kingdomunder russell, the society's publications portrayed the black races as "degraded" and the white race as "superior"rutherford viewed the blacks as a "race of servants", and spoke of "sobering the southern negro" in an article against prohibitionunder rutherford, the golden age slammed uncle tom's cabin (a work that helped end slavery) as being "the work of satan"; the same article branded spaniards a "backwards race"rutherford accused "jewish business men" of "oppressing the peoples of many nations"in 1929 the golden age (acknowledged by the society as essentially the same magazine as the modern awake!

I would chime in with Terry on this one, having been associated with the WT religion almost as long as he has. The WT quotes from the 30's and earlier sound really stupid and racist now, but at the time they were not much different from the prevailing culture of the US. Was the WT more racist than anyone else? No. Was the WT a leader in race equality? No. It simply reflected the time period, and it's leaders reacted to the societal changes (slowly) and gradually integrated. I have known JWs who still had a racial prejudice, but at the same time I knew many who were virtually colorblind. While growing up I had many friends and associates of different ethnic backgrounds, and never thought twice about it.
That being said, I have personally known people who remember the time in the US South when there were still segregated congregations. This still was the case as late as the early '60's, at least in south Georgia. The WT was a little slow in integrating in those parts.

It's a travesty. If it were simply a harmless profession of faith it wouldn't be so bad, but for the baptism to be used against the children later in life(the threat of disfellowshipping) is just plain wrong. No country in the world would hold a minor accountable like that.

I wonder if it is a Menlo-like situation where they want to sell a KH and have the congregations merge or share a KH. I know if it happened to me I'd really feel used and would oppose it.

CAN WE SOLVE THE MYSTERY of why Watchtower doctrines changed when they changed?
by Terry inif a person gives a police report of a traumatic event, but later changes their facts during cross-examination, these changes are used to impeach the honesty of the witness.. this impeachment flows from a logical understanding facts must match reality without contradiction.. lets examine the history of the watchtower corporations leaders with a view to the harmony of.
true teaching over a period of years from 1879-1942.. "even though christmas is not the real anniversary of our lord's birth, but more properly the annunciation day or the date of his human begetting (luke 1:28), nevertheless, since the celebration of our lord's birth is not a matter of divine appointment or injunction, but merely a tribute of respect to him, it is not necessary for us to quibble particularly about the date.
we may as well join with the civilized world in celebrating the grand event on the day which the majority celebrate - "christmas day.

I have always had the suspicion that the no-Christmas, no_Thanksgiving, prohibitions were to create a rift between the family members who stayed with the WT and those who went with the 'evil slave' of the time, the various Bible Students movements. I grew up in the Chicago area in the '60's and even at that time there were family members of the living JWs who were in the other movements.
Just a theory of mine, but seems reasonable.

AD1914.com Website has about 300 Pix from Rutherford's FBI File for 1917 and 1918
by Gilgamesh inbarbara anderson had a great idea for the ad1914.com website that launched on october 1st (2014).
it's still getting a lot of attention even though it was especially launched to make a splash for october 1 & 2. i'm currently one of the admin/editors and i have a lot more respect now for everyone who runs a website.. the purpose of the site is to continue to focus attention on the 1914 doctrine and related doctrines.
to keep getting attention there is now a facebook page and a twitter account where new updated articles are mentioned.. i don't think anyone behind the site thinks that 1914 is such an important issue when there are real issues such as "high-control," blood & medical coercion, lifestyle coercion, hypocrisy/honesty issues, child abuse, 'persons having no natural affection,' shunning, etc, and the religion has therefore become a hotbed of psychological and emotional turmoil.. but 1914 is still one of those "weak links" in the chain that has exposed the so-called "faithful and discreet slave" as dishonest, unfaithful, unwise, indiscreet, and ever unable to serve spiritual food at the proper time.. ultimately, the goal of the site will be, not to compete with other sites that have done such a great job of exposing the watch tower doctrines and practices.

Thanks for putting these documents up. They are a little out of order and unorganized, but still really interesting. There are a couple of letters by and about Charles Fekel (later a GB member) where he got himself arrested in 1918 for selling the Finished Mystery book.
I had to laugh at one page where a government agent went to a lecture at a Bible Student meeting where the speaker 'looked like and undertaker and spoke like a barber', and the agent went on and on about how boring it was. Hilarious.

I can't imagine what the GB and their legal staff is thinking. A reported case of child abuse... report to the police... How hard is that? Why have a policy any different? Because a book written 3000 years ago says something different? The WT religion is making a fool of itself.

I'm deeply sorry for these folks, they could be my mom and dad. I've been on some of those roads in Central America, and they are not safe; the drivers are nuts and there are almost no guardrails and safeguards. It isn't a time to point out the failures of the WT Society, (there are plenty of other times to do that).
