I guess I can go back to the meetings. My clean shaving days are long over.

Howto: get access to scientific papers
by Anders Andersen insince most people are not aware on how to get (free*) access to scientific papers and journals, so here's a short list of resources.. search http://scholar.google.com for the paper.
maybe you'll get lucky and find it somewhere for free.. if you can only find a paid for version of the paper, get the title, doi (sort of like an isbn number) and link to the download page of the paper on the paysite.. if you don't know the doi, find it by searching your paper's title on http://crossref.org.
go to the libgen site (links here: https://sites.google.com/site/themetalibrary/library-genesis ) and search for the paper.

Google Scholar is a great starting point. In many cases the site will find a free version of a paper. But unless you have access to a university library, you will not get free access to many articles.
Another site is the Social Science Research Network (you can find two of my articles here).
This is a great repository for published research and works in process.

"Inactive" non Attenders, how much power do the JW's have over YOU ?
by Phizzy ini was thinking about this because of the constant reminders we get in posts that we inactive non attenders have to be careful what we say to jw's, and what we do that they may learn about etc, if we don't wish to be before a j.c. the power they have is limited by what we give them.
now, i do not wish to be declared df'd of da'd, it would kill my old mum i think.. but i refuse to live my life looking over my shoulder, that, in my opinion, is giving them too much power.. i openly vote, i openly donate blood, i enjoy the odd cigar etc etc.. how much power do you allow them to have over you ?.

They have as much power as you are willing to give them. It is all up to you.

Despite all those recorded hours in field service, the general population knows very little about the religion. You will find that the really funny stuff will just go past your audience because they just don't understand.

Elders/MSs and Higher Education
by HiddlesWife inwould a brother who is an elder or ministerial servant be looked down upon or ostracized for endeavoring into high education?.
the reason i am asking this question is because i know of a ms who went to and graduated college (us) with a masters in science and engineering.
he also taught these subjects at an adult education program.

I was a MS and elder and continued to pursue an advanced degree. I did not advertise what I was doing, but some knew. In all this time I was never "called out" for what I was doing. If I was asked, I would simply provide a non descriptive answer saying that my employer requires me to take some classes... and then change the subject. Based upon my experience the key is to lay low. Most people, don't really care.

i have been disfellowshipped going on 30 years now.
within those thirty years i have built myself a life and slowly learned to cope with the shunning from family and friends.

Facebook is not the real world. The only thing that is real on Facebook is that jerks in real life remain jerks on Facebook.
Remember the best revenge is leading a successful life, which it seems you are doing. Best wishes.

Kids continue to leave in droves - so what is the organization's grand plan? This
by sir82 injws have one of the worst, if not the worst, retention rates among their kids.
i've seen numbers from 65% to 88% who leave, never to return.. you'd think this would be a priority amongst the leadership, right?
where do tomorrow's leaders come from, if the vast majority of kids leave the organization?

jwleaks, Thanks for the quote: "Good. I hate going to the meetings. Does this mean I can join the..."
Great story. You could end this sentence with practically anything. However the story ends it is a happy ending.

There are in a difficult situation. I agree with your assessment that the young ones are leaving. However, they have angered many older ones with their move to iPads and other high tech forms of communication.
