why does the dubs bible change the words from other recognised translations ?
in the normal bibles john 1:1 says "in the beginning was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was god.
" .... but the dubs version says"... and the word was a god".
They think that Jesus is not God. So they call Jesus "a god" (small g). This is a ridiculous assertion because the bible says there is "One True God" and there are no other true gods. Therefore, is Jesus a false god or a true god?
This is the issue I can not figure out either. They really claim via the NWT that Jesus is a god. He must be a false god then. Are there any lurkers out there that want to try and explain this? I have searched and found nothing logical.
at some point in the 1980's, a good number of younger men were appointed to the position of servants and elders in congregations, at least here in the midwestern usa.
before the 1980's, the required age for elders seemed to be 30, and for ministerial servants 20 (except in rare cases).
perhaps due to a lack of men who were "reaching out", the organization needed to "reach down" and pick out younger men to populate their hierarchy.
20 MS, 25 Elder here. Not because holy spirit wanted me but because there was a need for brothers in the hall that I was in. Not to mention I was quite the company man way back then.
These young appointments happen more and more these days. No doubt, as was mentioned, because more and more young ones are leaving the org. These up and coming "leaders" need to come from somehwhere otherwise the congs. would be filled with 75 yr old elders and nothing else.

Still going to all meetings, Field Service (though I usually 1/2 press the doorbell once and then leave or do "calls") The act is becoming harder and harder to stomach though, thats for sure.

i see some posters that automatically raise suspicions because of how they state things.
others, after reading what they have to say over a period of time, show their true colors.
I know of some that dog the Watchtower here but will go to meetings and pretend to be one of the loving "friends".

of my wife's congregation visited me, a real nice guy, but i knew he had gotten the letter from the borg.
anyway like i said a nice guy he promised to call again real soon that was prior to the memorial of 2003, well the memorialo of 2005 has come and gone and he still hasn't come back to visit.

Such a true statement. I hate to sound condescending so I apologize if it comes out that way but those of you who were never elders or their wives to a degree have no idea how it is for them so please dont be too quick to judge. I again say that I am not agreeing with crappy treatment but for many of them, they behave like this out of loyalty to an organization not God or Christ.
Its all a sham people, elders are not...NOT appointed by holy spirit so we shouldnt expect it to be acting thru them. For those of you who still believe in god that is.

Impossible to generalise of course about the personality traits of all elders, as each have their own motivations for becoming one. Some of course over time become jaded, and perhaps feel trapped in this profession
Unfortunately I have to agree with this one. I think that perhaps 50% of them feel this way. 40% are in in it for prestige and power (power over whom/what exactly?) the remaining 10% are kind, caring people who really believe they were appointed by god to do good. Poor deluded people...... of course these are rough percentages. Could be more or less either way but you get my point yes?
The WT yoke is not the kindly, light one that Jesus said to come to for refreshment. Instead it is unscriptural, burdensome, fear oriented and unloving. Many elders can barely make ends meet and keep up with their families and their ridiculous man made religious requirements much less try to keep track of other beaten down and trodden people. I am not trying to justify this, simply stating what I see as the situation for many JW elders. Its really sad but the whole elder arrangement is a sham!
since the watchtower constantly "adjusts", were you ever unsure as to whether or not you might have committed a "sin"?
were you under the impression that "porneia" or "fornication" was something you did not commit----only to find out that by the "bible's" definition, you did commit this "sin"?

Umm... I was in Manhattan when it happened and saw the 2nd plane hit... must be some "hologram" if it was faked. Sorry conspiracy theorists, But 2 jet liners hit the WTC towers and the ensuing fire from the burning fuel compromised the building structure. End of story.....
