So Is It Jst2 Cool Britannia?
by Englishman inno no, not "cool" as in "kewl", but cool as in chilly and cold, unfriendly almost, like we brits are rumoured to be throughout the world.
this is just an observation about how we perceive different groups of people.
a few weeks back, i was enjoying an uproarious evening in the pub.

I lived in England for a couple of years while doing an exhange tour with the Royal Air Force. I found the people to be warm and friendly and most hospitable. I discovered that my initial impression that they were a bit reserved was simply respect for your privacy. We had two sets of friends. Mine were RAF officers and their wives and my wife's were JWs and mostly gypsies. My wife lost her father while we were there and had to return to the states for the funeral. Our JW friends took the other three children in while she was gone since my duties prevented me from tending to them. Although I had some concern for their teeth since they were getting far too many sweets, they were well looked after. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to return that hospitality some years later when I was stationed in Germany and our JW friends came over on holiday. I also logged a bit of time in British hospitals since I came down with kidney stones while there. The facilities were horrible, but the care was terrific.

Can psychic energy heal?
by kenpodragon inrecently i was watching a documentary on this woman who claimed that she could heal people with the power of her mind.
the documentary went into interviewing people about their experiences, and many of them actually had medical signs of improvement that could be documented and shown.
while watching this, i was seeing it as a example of psychic energy healing someone?

Realist
If you don't believe anyone has been healed by belief, read some of the work of Depak Chopra, M.D., or Bernie Siegal, M.D.. Even conventional medicine is beginning to accept psychic healing only they call it "psycho-neuro-immunology". The power of the mind to produce chemical reactions in the body is well documented. The power of those chemicals is often far superior to anything that a pharmaceutical company can manufacture.
Sirona
Your coven was not the only ones sending you healing energy. It works because we are all one.
Not everyone wants to be healed! There are numerous reasons why people want to hang on to an illness, even to the point of death.
I am suspicious of those who claim to be healers, however. A true healer would acknowledge that it is the spirit within that does the healing. Even Jesus did not claim that power for himself, but acknowledged the power of the spirit was the healer.

Is that your opinion because the tune is set to an English drinking song? Cheers!

I certainly would vote for a change, but my pick would be America The Beautiful. Woodie's tune would be a close second, however.

Help a lurking dub with doubts
by undercover ini've been lurking about, checking out some of the evidence against the wtbs.
i am currently inactive but still an approved/baptized member.
i have seen all the 1914/607bce evidence; the blood transfusion quandry evidence; the current child abuse problem evidence and several other things that are damning to the wt doctrines.

If you can manage to fade away rather than being dA'd or dF'd, you will make it easier on your familiy to maintain contact with you. You have to decide if maintaining contact is important to you. My youngest daughter managed to fade away whereas my oldest got dF'd. My youngest's relations with her mother are much better than those of my oldest daughter.

I think you have put your finger on the crux of the matter. They just don't know how to handle people who have decided to think for themselves so they do what they are told.

Armageddon and Jehovah's Witnesses?
by kenpodragon inbefore you read the following.
i would like to explain that i in no way hold the jehovah's witness beliefs, so please read the complete thought to fully understand my point.
i looked at all these people that were elders, pioneers, and strong witnesses and figured i did not measure up.

Well done Dragon! Another few thousand years and someone will decide that was inspired.

I wouldn't take the story of the flood too seriously. The Jews borrowed that one from the Persians. There was a flood, but it was a lot more localized event than the WT would have you believe.
A Paduan
Very interesting thought! You are of course, correct, but I never thought of that before.
Lost Diamond
I agree with you that Armagedon will not resemble what the WT teaches. Regarding a Day of Judgement, A Course In Miracles has bad news and good news. The bad news is that there will be one. The good news is that the verdict is already in. Its NOT GUILTY!

Dying you will not die?
by Kagloo ini have a question that has puzzled me since i got my large print bible...... in genesis 2:17 it states.... but as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.".
the footnote reads.... lit.. " dying you will die.
" okay i understand that... .

Guess what! Job is great drama. It certainly is on a par with Paradise Lost by Milton and Faust by Goethe. Scholars don't agree on how to classify this work. Certainly parts of it were borrowed from the Babylonians. The names of the characters are not even Jewish. I doubt that the author or authors meant for it to be taken literally.

Bible Prophecies?
by mindfield inno, i'm not getting any doubts that the bible is any more than what i believe it is... a myth.
however, i do have a particular question about one aspect that my jw uncle raised during one of our conversations: what about those so-called "prophecies"?
no, i'm not talking about the vague nostradamus-like "statue made of different kinds of crap".

Most scholars accept that the Book of Daniel, often cited as a prophetic book, was written about 165 B.C., well after the events took place. The jews were going through a difficult period at the time since they were under the domination of the Greeks. Whereas the Persians had let them do their own thing, the Greeks were determined to "Greekasize" them in terms of religion, culture, and diet. The purpose of the book was apparently to encourage the Jews to "hang in there". In the case of Isaiah, only the first 39 chapters appear to be from the period of the actual Isaiah. Chapters 40 on appear to be 6th century B.C.(555 b.c. to 539 b.c.) during the reign of Nabonidus, and from Chapter 56 to 66 perhaps later still. The writer of Revelation was writing during the period of great tribulation by the Roman emperor Domitian and apparently had the book of Daniel open on the desk since the imagery is the same. The purpose of that book was apparently the same as that of the book of Daniel. "Hang in There!".
