I for one do not have a drinking problem. I simply pour myself a glassful and then drink, no problem!
What was your question again?
it is pretty obvious when some posters get most....animated?
it is always later in the day, cocktail hour, especially weekends.
but my question is this:.
I for one do not have a drinking problem. I simply pour myself a glassful and then drink, no problem!
What was your question again?
As all the above posts show, there are many, MANY really good reasons to not be one of JWs. But, as SIAM's Open Letter to the GB shows, there are many, MANY people that stay in the bORGanization because they are afraid of being disfellowshipped.
what does the watchtower really teach?
i have been developing a list of wt doctrines/beliefs that are plainly in opposition to clear, simple scriptural teachings/ideas.
these could be used to clarify important questions and address key topics for discussion.

- Should Christians hate sinners or only the sins they commit?
- How should we view those with different beliefs than ours?
i searched the indexes of jwn and found a number of older threads on the subject of class action lawsuits against the wtbts for a number of things such as: fraud, breach of contract, emotional duress, pain and suffering, etc.
most of the threads are fairly old.
does anyone know if any serious attempts at this have ever been made by a qualified lawyer and/or firm?
Here's an ironic tidbit from the source:
Fraud victims typically feel overwhelmed by shame, guilt, embarrassment, and self-directed anger. Don’t blame yourself. You are the victim; the blame rests on the person who conned you. If you have made a mistake, admit that to yourself, and then move on with your life. Do not conclude that you are stupid. Remember that swindlers successfully defraud highly intelligent people—heads of State, bank managers, executives, finance managers, attorneys, and others. - Awake! July 22, 2004 (Emphasis added)

apparently it's now ok for known child abusers to be recommended as elders as long as the "sin" was years in the past: .
"for example, the sin may involve past child abuse, and this would likely disqualify him for years.
" - shepherd the flock of god, p. 38 (2010).
BB, Thanks for the additional research!
As I said before, This is one seriously f**ked up policy/organization!!!

Ooops, I meant to note that the above quote is from paragraph 21 of the Shepherd the Flock book, the paragraph immediately following the two quoted by BluesBrother!

Let's not forget:
If the wrongdoing occurred within the past few years while he was serving as an elder or a ministerial servant, he is disqualified from serving as such, not being "free from accusation." (1 Tim. 3:2, 10; Titus 1:6, 7) Depending on the circumstances, the situation may also need to be handled by a judicial committee. - (Emphasis in original)
Ok, let me see if I understand this:
I would guess that those "circumstances" would be if it now appears that:
Notice the emphasis on appearances. And how could these three things be otherwise as he as hidden his sin for at least a "few years" and pretended to be a model citizen?!?!?
This is one seriously f**ked up policy!!!
I'm only glad that in all the years I served as an elder I never had to deal with any child abuse issues in the two congregations I attended.
please share anything--whatever facts, methods, ideas, etc.--that you found successful in helping other family members or friends to "wake-up" and leave jws.
also, include anythings that you found didn't work or even backfired.
i'm particularly interested in how you were able to reach family members that initially shunned you out of mis-guided loyalty due to wt indoctrination.
