by cedars inhi everyone, i am going through the dec 15th study edition of the wt thanks to a tip-off that this issue is now available online at jw.org.. in the article "guided by god's spirit in the first century and today" on page 25 there is a bizarre argument put forward by the society about the difference between spirit-anointed and spirit-appointed.. this touches on a subject that i have often wondered about, which is this.
why are spirit anointed brothers and sisters (memorial partakers) not given positions of oversight in the congregation by default?
i know it sounds like a stupid question, but please think about it for a moment.

Yeah, I always had issues with this contradiction too.
It is similar to the problem with the FDS supposedly being comprised of all anointed ones on earth, and yet there isn't even the SUGGESTION of any mechanism in place for them to contribute to the alleged role of providing spiritual food at the proper time.
Oh, I know, the GB gets their input invisibly via holy spirit just like all the other bull-crap the R&F JWs are supposed to swallow down!

Non NWT use in Public Talks
by cantleave ini am sure that when i gave talks, although the nwt was always the main bible used, other translations could be used to make a point.. the elders recived a letter dated may10th 2011 re:public speakers and it stated under the subheading "reading from scriptures".
scriptures should be read by the speaker rather than requesting a volunteer from the audience.
the new world translation should be used, if available.

Not new in the US: I remember 10 - 15 years ago when serving the direction from the WTBTS was public speakers should ONLY use the NWT. Sorry I can't cite/quote the Society's letter on that. I've been out 2 1/2 years and don't have access to the files. It could have been at one of our "elder schools" here in SoCal.
But I do remember thinking at the time how odd that was since THEY quote from other Bibles all the time in their publications. I also remember thinking that the message sent was that local elders aren't smart enough to be trusted to know when to and when not to use other Bibles.

I'd like to pick up on Mad Sweeney's comment that, "What they do should be criminal" by sharing a comment that DNCall made to me over lunch one day. He describes what the GB does to its members as a "Crime Against Humanity."
The first time he said this to me I thought he was being a bit melodramatic. The more I thought about it the more I realized he was understating the seriousness of it.
It really is an outrage!

discreetslave, I appreciate your responding in kind to my ironic, sarcastic response to what we both know is a serious problem.
A Black Humor approach is one of the ways I am trying to cope with this. If it wasn't so outrageous it would be funny.
A good friend of mine that was recently DF'd for attempting to fade (he was a born-in and devoted 50+ years of his life to the Slave-Master before he woke up) describes what the GB does to its members "A Crime Against Humanity." I'm not 100% right, but then I don't punish people for disagreeing with me.
The WT, on the other hand, has been WRONG about so many things I would NEVER, EVER GO BACK.
I know some people do return. But then again so do some women return to men that beat them. It's called Battered Woman Syndrome:
