  Weeklong Elders School for POs This Year? Any info?

  i just heard that my ex-father in law will be attending a weeklong elder's school at patterson for presiding overseers sometime this year.

  My question is, who foots the bill for sending the PO's and elders there???? Is it going to be the congregation or are the attendees going to be given the priviledge of paying for the transportation themselves?

  Wow, our former congregation (Seattle.............West Coast, so no driving from here to there) has elders that are very elderly, 86, 88 and a couple in their 70's. One is about 60. The older three are very poor, living on Social Security, and would not be able to afford that kind of a trip, even if their health would allow it. I'll bet the old ones don't go. I know one has a very ill wife, and the other has a serious heart condition, and seldom gets to the KH anymore, and I doubt he could go. One has a wife that is an invalid and he takes care of her 24/7............what would happen to her?

  One of the other elders is about 50 and is a school teacher. I wonder if he could be excused from school for this.

  on another thread purporting to start a discussion of this work, some suggested that it be restarted in a new thread, as the consideration there had begun in a polluted way and had only stayed at that level.

  since things poorly begun usually end worse, i am starting the thread as some have requested.

  i am currently beginning to read age of reason, and will return to it from time to time as time itself allows.

  I read it several years ago. It's an amazing work, considering he wrote it from memory at the time, not having a Bible to reference.

  It is what caused me to question the Bible at all. Before I was guilted into reading that book, I was still a Bible believer.

  It is very reasonably presented, so the title is appropriate.

  i had the sneaky suspicion the girl in the picture below was a dub.

  she had never drank, smoked or watched a rated r movie.

  she was married at a young age and just seemed too wholesome.

  It's funny but when she walked on stage, I thought she looks like a Mormon. When she told her story, I felt like I was right.

  There was a Mormon girl on a few seasons back, Carmen something.

  great stories everyone.................I've done many of the same things.

  My grandparents and great grandparents had houses next door to each other, homesteaded property from 1910. After my great grandparents died, the house was sold, but the new owners had kids and we used to go there all the time. The house still exists and is amazing now. They have done some great renovations and it is beautiful. My grandparent's house is still there too and also beautifully upgraded but it still has that century old look. Makes me sad though that no one in the family owns them anymore.

  I do a lot of genealogy research, and a couple of years ago, I had an extremely vivid dream that I was the child of one of my ancestors in Maine, in the 1700's. Everyone was wearing blue or black. (they were Quakers) I was very little and in a small bed, freezing cold. I tried so hard to see their faces but couldn't. I had the dream in summertime and was not cold. The dream was very real though.

  Ever encounter gypsies?

  We sold a car to some gypsies about 8 years ago. They did pay, but in cash. Then the woman wanted to buy some of my nutritional products, that I sell, and tried to get me to just give them to her because they were so poor. This, after peeling off 20 one hundred dollar bills. Yeah, really poor. I said "no".

  Presents to children from JW grandmother?

  we received a parcel for our boys today from besty's mother.

  presents, photos (of seals!

  ) and a card addressed to them asking for some photos of them!

  Give them the gifts. It will mean a lot to them. You said it best............she is a victim of mind control, but obviously loves you all.

  Send a nice thank you note too, and get the kids to do the same. It will speak volumes as to who you are now.

  How Do You Deal With Stress & Depression?

  i know many people who are stressed and depressed.

  they feel burnt out and anxious.

  how have you dealt with such issues?

  it depends on how long I've had the stress..............short term, I get it out...........talk to someone or yell a lot, or cry. A nice drink or two helps too. Just to calm down.

  A couple of days worth, I go to the casino and zone out for a few hours. I usually feel better afterwards. I usually win too, so that helps.

  I think it's important to get it out of your system, by talking. Holding it inside causes too many health issues. I've witnessed it with friends and relatives, but they don't seem to get to me.

  i always thought it was ironic how often they preached against this sort of thing from the platform, then were out in the parking lot trying to sell it to you.

  tons of elders defrauding folks this way..

  I never did anything like that, even after leaving the witnesses. I knew other non JW's who recruited that way. I always thought it was a bad idea.
