My stepfather gave us some REALLY rare, old CT Russell books, that I am not selling, because I know they have sentimental value, since he gave them to us. We have the original leather bound Studies in the Scriptures and Photo Drama of Creation. All very valuable monetarily. It's the Volume 7 that mystifies me, as to why people think it's such a neat book. As I said I know about a dozen people who have one, or more on their shelves.

How Much for Vol.7 of "Studies in the Scri...
by Prisca inan amazing thing happened to me today.. i was in a neighbouring suburb, and wandered into a nondescript second-hand bookshop.
i asked where the religious books were, and the elderly shop-keeper pointed to the single shelf, stacked full with books.. amongst them was a faded red book entitled, "studies in the scriptures series 7 - the finished mystery".. i could not believe my luck.
here was a rare book, sitting innocently amongst books far younger than their companion.. i gingerly opened it up and browsed its contents.

I'm going to be a father!
by dedalus ini've been a sorry excuse of a poster lately, so i'm not really in tune with what's going on with the board, but i still know enough people here to make an announcement: foxy, my fiancee, is pregnant!.
so it happened a couple of years before we were planning it, before we could even get married, before i've finished my postgraduate degree -- but so what?
we're financially sturdy enough to pull it off, i'll be able to complete the degree and get a good job, and no amount of financial anxiety seems to offset the excitement i feel to be having a child.

my last year in the BORG
by BoozeRunner inalthough this story is several years old, i wanted to share it here.. after i was df'd, in 1996, under questionable and selective circumstances, i really tried to get back in the swing of things in order to be reinstated.
i actually travelled from nyc, where i was staying with family for a short time, back to my cong.
in new jersey, often getting a hotel room solely for the purpose of attending the sunday meeting.. my p.o., tho, basically cringed each time i showed up(guilt, i guess).

Welcome to the board. You will find lots of similar experiences here, and lots of support. Many here have said they didn't know what they would have done without the support they got here, and the faceless friends they find here. Well.......some have faces now, don't they?

I don't know how rare that book is, since it seems everyone I know has one. I sold ours on eBay a few months back for about $80. It wasn't in great shape either. What I don't understand is why on earth you would want to have it in your library? We got rid of everything, except a few books that actually have some reference value for now.

for those who "grew up in the borg"
by zev inat this late, middle stage of my life, i've started wondering, now that i know what i know, about the things in my life that i "lived" with.
having been raised all my life in the "borg" i have known nothing else.
when questions began forming years ago, it started me thinking.

I grew up in the borg too, from age 5. I don't feel it stunted me personality wise, and I think I can speak for my buddy, Venice too.......she has personality coming out her pores, and neither of us have any trouble meeting people. But, we are both outgoing people. That is just in you, and I don't think the borg makes you insecure or withdrawn. Some things about growing up a JW are positives, like I know how to put together a talk, and have no fear of public speaking. I always enjoyed that part of it, but I hated going door to door, and 'bothering people', that I knew would much rather we weren't there. And yet, I pioneered for years. What I do feel affected me, was that my life held no options other than marriage, children, or pioneering. Or all three. I always wanted those things, but I never had a choice, to do anything else either. My father was a marginal-dub, and a doctor, so wanted both my brother and myself to go to college, but we were good little dubs, and didn't. The harm the borg does to kids, is to try to mold them all into the same kind of person. I was okay with it, because my personality was the way it was, but for a really shy, withdrawn kid, they really suffer as a dub. I had two children that were like that, and it wasn't a good thing for them. All four kids are ex dubs now. Yaaayyy!!!!

DEEMINZ AT THE KINGDOM HALL!
by TR inthe other day, i was sharing with my non jw, never has been jw, never would be a jw catholic wife the story silent lambs told us about his last visit to the kh.
i was inspired to visit the kh and play some mind games.. my wife bettered my idea and threw in the idea to make something "demonic" happen at the hall while i'm there.
maybe a hidden tape recorder of some evil sounds or some other tricks.

How about leaving a playboy centerfold somewhere, where it would be found, but not obvious? Like pin it under one of the announcements on the bulletin board, folded up of course. Or print out the 'boob job' photos from the weekend, from this board, and leave them in the contribution boxes.

Thanks for the picture!! Someday I will make it there myself. I've been to England twice, and haven't been to Macclesfield yet. Now that I am obsessed with my genealogy, no one will talk me out of taking the time to go there again. On our last trip, we drove right past the exit, and I complained loudly, but everyone insisted we press on to Scotland, so I gave in too, not wanting to bore everyone, with "my town". Never again, as they say.

Hey, TR!! What happened last week? You never called when you were in town!!
This is a great idea. I'll think of something too. I love the idea of Crisis of Conscience showing up somewhere.

by VeniceIT inwell i know this isn't like my usual posts but bear with me.
i know there are blowups on this board, and i guess not everyone gets a long 100%, 100% of the time, but we all have a bond that keeps bringing us back--pain.
we here have all suffered at the hands a merciless cult, and i know many have sufferd more then the rest of us can ever comprehend.. i miss my family and friends, somedays it's almost more then i can bear, but get by.

Hi sweetheart! We went to see Pearl Harbor last Saturday night, and ate hot dogs and popcorn for dinner. Gross, eh? But we both cried! Can you picture that? Dave crying? It had been a really hard day for me, and all that we have been going through lately, with all the terminal illnesses in the family, just hit me hard!! I cried half the day, and you know me. I am not much of a crier. I wasn't allowed to cry, when I was a child, so it isn't easy to let it out, but I had no choice. The floodgates just opened up, when my friend called me.........you know.....Oll_ _? She said, "what's wrong?" And I just burst into tears. She was here in 5 minutes to give me a hug. Now her mother is dying. Very hard for her, since she is so far away. Anyway, Dave thought a movie would be good for me, and I wanted to see that one. It was a good choice, because I cried some more. I needed to do it. Thanks for this post. You are the BEST!!!
