  My Life as a 'Famous' Jehovah's Witness

  just let me start out by saying i am unable to give certain details of my life as i have learned very quickly this can cause a lot of problems.

  i was born into the 'truth' as my mother had been studying with a few sisters on and off at a local congregation.

  my father was never a jw and came in and out of my life for many years..to this day i do not give him much time.

  Sorry, no one gets to play on teams in highschool without attending all games and earning stats. Colleges don't give Scholarships to people who have not been proven on high school teams.

  Not true!! I was in high school in the early 60's. Some of the witness guys were on teams, stars even. They attended all the games. The JW life was much different back then. Some of my friends in other congregations were class officers and cheerleaders.

  Lots of them went on to college too.

  One of the men in our congregation, was the student body president at the University of Washington, while he was in our congregation. He went on to attend Gilead, and became the Branch overseer in Spain. His name was John Kurtz. He passed away a few years ago. Great guy.............my mother pioneered with him. His father was the book study conductor at our house.

  As I said before, times change, even in JW-land.

  I do not think he is a troll. Cut him some slack. He wants to be anonymous. Stop guessing who he might be. There are several Major League ball players who became JW's. He could be any one of them.

  Raised a JW from birth...

  i am now 31 and after leaving the "truth" in my teenage years i was plagued with anger towards the organization as well as christianity in general.

  has anyone come to read the teachings of the buddha and found them a refreshing and eye opening insight into the nature of reality?

  not long ago i picked up a book entitled "awakening the buddha within", and have found spirituality in a way that i could never find in the jehovah's witnesses organization.

  Even though I am anti religion, I do find many Buddhist teachings make a lot of sense. They seem to center on being the best person you can be and respecting the earth and all creatures on it. Who could argue with that?

  Almost exactly what I was going to say. Definitely, I am anti religion. Well said.

  Is Higher education strongly discouraged in 2007 district convention?

  today in our rehersal, i met with our district convension overseer.

  he told us that college or higher education is now strongly discouraged by the society.

  i argued that such policy is not practical here in the philippines since most jobs now require some sort of college education unlike in other countries where there are demands on skills regardless on educational attainment.

  It always happens this way...........when their numbers start slipping, they tighten the controls.

  I've seen it many times over the years..................god forbid, they keep up with the times...........or the Mormons. Hahhaaa.

  Apostate Bible studies?

  i've had this idea for a few days, just mulling how to flesh it out if you will.

  it may not be a new idea, but i'll try to get it out coherently.. lets say there is a guy, he's a jw but has been surfing the net and knows now that the wts is bogus.

  he can't just leave, he has family-wife and young children who are in the borg.

  Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I can't imagine anything more hideous. Too much like the old days and Bible study. I would say, just leave it alone, and get on with your life.

  we started our fade in mid 1995. The last KH meeting we attended was in July '97. The last book study was January '98.

  Almost 10 years since we attended one of those "rich spiritual feasts".

  The real story: Is your congregation stagnant, dwindling or thriving?

  with the 2007 service year stats out one could be forgiven for thinking that wt's problems are over, the child abuse settlement an itch in their bethel backside and the blood issue a minor annoyance.. if the truth were known, it is probably that more often than not, congregations are in decline, attendance is poor and few new recruits are not already jw family members.. so, if you know how your congregation is doing, if you have the pulse of your hall, let us know.. .

  my congregation (which shall remain nameless).

  dwindling attendance at all meetings (around 80%).

  When we attended there were about 120 cards in the file. (husband was an elder) Meeting attendance was about 75-85.

  Now, according to my buddy, who attends regularly, meeting attendance is horrible, about 40-45. Don't know how many cards there are now.

  A congregation North of us was recently disbanded because there just weren't enough publishers and elders to continue operating. They were absorbed into one other congregation. That was shocking. Maybe it's just this area of the U.S. but it's a bit stagnant except the Spanish and Korean congregations, which seem to be thriving.

  hello dear friends.... well..the saga continues!!

  as many of you know last new years the jws attacked our "frosty" and egged our home.

  " the co said, "so you are both not willing to meet with the elders..?".

  Great experience. You know one of his really big problems in talking to you, is that you are a woman. They do NOT like a woman to get the best of them.
