  Homeopathy popular in Jehovah's Witnesses ?

  is homeopathy ( the treatment of a disease using, in small doses, drugs that produce symtoms like those of the disease so that one's natural immune system can fight off the disease ) popular among active jw's ?

  my son who was raised as a jw has a large ( adult male palm size ) fatty growth on his back.

  his jw mother is treating him with homeopathy, as is a so called doctor.

  Indeed. Homeopathy is pure quackery.

  I can't believe you said that. Homeopathy is a science, and not quackery. Lots of doctors use homeopathic remedies.

  When I fell last year and thought I had broken my wrist and hand, I was in a great deal of pain but no broken bones. The doctor recommended Arnica gel, that you can buy at most health food stores. I rubbed it in, and it took away the pain. Arnica is a homeopathic remedy taken from Arsenic and it works!

  My father was a Naturopathic Physician and he used Homeopathy extensively on us while we were growing up. It works amazingly well.

  There was another I used for PMS and cramps. Almost a miracle.

  I hate it when people say "quackery" when they have little or no knowledge of something. I still have lots of homeopathic things in the cupboard and I sell several too through my website. One of them helps people quit smoking and they say it's a miracle product. It also works to stop drinking. Another is for allergies.

  The toothpaste I use is a homeopathic preparation that prevents and removes plaque. My dentist was amazed at my teeth when I went for cleaning. I sell lots and lots of to dental clinics.

  Do you, too, see JW chronology numbers everywhere?

  i regulary look at my digital alarm clock and it says "19:14" and i think "hmm, used to be the end of the 'gentile times'" than i take a look at my number of posts and i have already passed 1914, 1918, 1925. when i look at car plates i get reminded of year numbers having been hammered into my brain.

  well, this is not really serious, but i get always reminded of my jw past.

  i have to add that chronology was something important to me and carl olof jonsson's book "the gentile times reconsidered" was an important one for me.

  Funny you should start this thread. I can't count how many times I've awakened at looked at the clock and it says 6:07. Freaks me out!!

  other religions teach that god helps us to become prosperous.

  jehovah does not do that.

  Also I remember they told us we did not need to take holidays as the Society had assemblies in very exciting areas

  Right.............ours were in Tacoma WA, a really fun, exciting place. NOT!!! We had a saying about Tacoma............."ah, enjoy the aroma of Tacoma". I think there were pulp mills or smelters. It smelled pretty rank. And we were told to support our own conventions, and not to go to different places for them.

  He was amazing. I saw him on Larry King's show and on Oprah several times, from the time he was about 10 years old. Wise way beyond his years.

  His hero was Jimmy Carter because he was "a peacemaker".

  How many JWs die for want of a blood transfusion?

  does anyone have a rough or even accurate idea of how many jws lose their lives each year due to the no blood doctrine?.

  I know one who died in 1977. My 35 year old sister in law, after giving birth. She bled out, no blood allowed. The baby was born dead. A double tragedy for our family that we have never recovered from. It changed our family forever, especially my brother and his daughters.

  and yet they accept all gifts of really nice clothing, and trips, from the wealthier JW's.

  I remember one of our CO's wives going on and on about their trip to Puerto Vallarta that one of the rich witnesses insisted they take, at his expense. He bought the CO an expensive suit and the wife an expensive coat. They were dressed better than any of us.

  Another one was so jealous of our going to Hawaii, because they had been there a few months earlier, as a gift from one of the JW's. She loved it so much, she wanted to go with us, and couldn't wait to get another trip.

  the last few years have been very low key.

  We are going to our daughter's, Princess, house for a family poker party. Three of our kids will be there with their mates, and one of our nieces and her husband, and maybe her sister and her significant other.

  We all have fun. Ring in the new year with family.

  Tomorrow we are gathering at our eldest son's house for football on his big screen TV.

  Then, back to normal until next year. It's been a really busy holiday season.

  i just got back from a real puke-fest of a jw wedding.. i'll post some notes from the ceremony but let's just say that i had to restrain myself from getting up and saying "don't agree to that"!

  I remember when my cousin got married in 1961, she had a decorated flat sheet cake, and they didn't cut the cake together. She said all of that was pagan. I was only 15 but I remember telling her I thought she was being very silly.

  If they want to be Biblical with their weddings they should just make a procession to the groom's house, and have a feast. No ceremony at all. They did wear special clothes, but there was no gathering of friends for a ceremony.

  The loss of freedom is the greatest punishment.

  I tend to agree with this point.

  I watched the video right up to where they cut it off, when he was actually hanged. It made me sick. I wish I hadn't seen it. I saw the hooded men put the cloth around his neck, then the noose, and then tighten the noose. I certainly felt no glee at this man's death.
  
  Sure, he was a really terrible dictator and killed thousands of his own people, but to see the fear in his eyes and the broken man he had become, just made me feel very, very bad.
  
  I'm not sad he's dead. I just wish I hadn't watched the video.

  i was wondering how many cases involving kids end in the courts, and how does it usualy turn out ?.

  how many families run when the court orders come down ?.

  how do the kids and families fare afterwards in both cases ?.

  A family we were very close to, because we studied with them, had a major crisis back in 1996 during the district convention. Their 13 year old daughter was dying of congestive heart failure. Her blood count was so dangerously low, that they wanted to transfuse her and said if they didn't she wouldn't live more than a few days. Her father, also an elder, was very upset and causing quite a scene, and the HLC came in to see us and have my husband calm him down. They said the family had to let them transfuse her. Huh??? We couldn't believe our ears. We had started our slow fade by then, but Dave was still an elder for another month I think. We wanted her to have blood, but were shocked by what the HLC was saying.

  They said they had worked for years to have a good relationship with that hospital (Mary Bridge Children's, in Tacoma WA) and they didn't want any bad press.

  By the way, she was given blood and recovered and is still alive. She has Down's Syndrome, so has lots of health issues. That one seems to be over for now. 10 years!
