I do not like this idea. I have enough difficulty as it is to argue that atheism is not a religion. I find the whole thing pathetic.
A little dignity goes a long way.

Mass movement: Atheist mega-churches take Western world by storm
by Dis-Member in"singing songs, clapping hands, praising acts of giving and community work all the things present in a church have now found an official home in so-called atheist mega-churches, a quirky idea spreading like wildfire across the western world.".

I think they're trying to shake off the Watchtower...
by gingerbread inwe had another couple over this weekend.
after taking a reasonable hike in the woods, we came back to the house, made a fire and began to talk a bit.
these folks are long time friends of ours and are (like us) slowly easing out of the kingdom hall.

Their history is so damaging, that if a JW decided to promote old literature, he/she would be disfellowshipped for apostasy.
THAT's how damning their past is... which by the way PROVES that they were not worthy to be chosen by Christ in 1919... -

I understand — but you also must understand that this is an emotional need; not a spiritual one.
We all know what mistakes can be done when emotions rule. So take a step back and think about where you want to be in — let's say — 5 years?
If that's what you really want, then go for it. If you ache at the idea of supporting the mind-controlling WTS, then don't.
In any case, give yourself time. :)
* Now, my personal thought is that I would never marry a known controlling slut just because I need a companion. And to me, that's what the WTS is. -

Knowledge by Proxy
by braincleaned inwhatever our convictions are, we all have one thing in common; we have learned them from other sources.. we have knowledge by proxy... we didn't find things out all by ourselves.
we let trusted sources talk for us.. belief is not something that you choose.
but if there is no elephant, i do not "choose" to believe it isn't there either.

Not upset.
I think we've just hit a dead-end for now, as far as the subject involved.
You have been clear, and I think I have been too.
We are at a point where we refer to two different paradigms. That's all. No ill feelings. ;) -

Keep on rationalizing my friends... philosophy is all you have.
Red herrings and strawmen. -

I remember trying to rationalize my faith thru what I considered evidence... which of course, was no empirical evidence at all.
I have more respect for those who admit that their faith is a strong belief regardless of (and even against) evidence.
Faith is Faith — it's non arguable — I would never debate it if people wouldn't try to rationalize it. -

Some more weird ones
by Hortensia ina friend, former jw like me, wants me to ask you a question.
she remembers as a child that her jw parents believed that satan could come up through any perfectly round hole and cause you to sin.
for instance, if her father built a fire ring at the beach, he purposely put a corner on it so satan couldn't catch them.

Definitately a family superstition. Not related to anything I know — except that JWs are filled with this kind of nonesense.
My parents thew their wedding rings away because they were an opened door to Satan, as they had been blessed by a priest of Babylon the Great.

I needed this thread because I have a question:
Can someone tell me WHEN the Borg decided that Jesus was THEIR mediator, and not all humankind's as per scripture?
Also, HOW did they rationalize the ursuping of the Mediator position that Christ held.
