I never would have guessed this.
Evolution of humans wasn't included, but Watchtower was definitely leaning toward the evolution of animals through a divinely guided process.
Thanks Slimboyfat!
two days ago a new book was released for download, called "ever-changing teachings of jehovah's witnesses".
it was originally written by a polish jw scholar (who never was a jw himself) włodzimierz bednarski, with a help from szymon matusiak, who was a jw and an elder, and is a result of years of labourious work to compile quotes regarding every single doctrine the book describes.
it covers the most important changes in years 1879—2015.
I never would have guessed this.
Evolution of humans wasn't included, but Watchtower was definitely leaning toward the evolution of animals through a divinely guided process.
Thanks Slimboyfat!
just called into the kingdom hall, speaker said he couldn't tell if anyone was listening to his talk now that everyone uses electronic devices and nobody laughed... well i did!.
he also mentioned when everyone used the bible he could hear the pages flipping and he knew they were following along.
this was really funny to me.
Millie210: What business is it of the speakers to state anything about medical marijuana at all?
Amen to that.
As to the Society's stand on medical marijuana, I've been wondering about that. Since mj has become legal for medical use in many US states does Watchtower have an official position on it's use? Much harder prescription drugs, even with harsh side effects, are permitted.
If there is an objection to 'smoking' it, there are other forms in which it can be taken.
Any information?
as the jewish holy day of shavuot (pentecost) begins this weekend, the reform judaism site publishes an interesting article entitled "judaism teaches: question authority, think for yourself.".
the article employs a jewish doctor's recollection of a jw patient who refused blood and died as an example of how both religious traditions greatly differ on how they see and apply god's law.. shavuot is the day jews recall god's giving the law to israel.
the article is significant in that it demonstrates how jews see the giving of the law as a call to questioning authority, including divine revelation itself whereas the death of the jw patient is contrasted as a slavish interpretation that misses the point behind jewish scripture.. for more see the article at:.
TD:
In Judaism, it [the Law] is a priceless gift from a loving father and keeping it will make you happier, healthier and live longer.
...the trammel point (i.e. That death is never the natural result of keeping the Law) is absent.
What an incredibly simple yet profound point. The Law promoted life and happiness. Death only came from violating it. The Jehovah's Witness interpretation of the Law is just the opposite because it results in death often. That alone is a tremendous eye-opener to how wrong Watchtower's blood ban is.

I don't agree Walter Martin would have wiped the floor with Fred Franz.
Perhaps, but he does make a good point about JWs avoiding debate. I'm not sure why they do. In the early days of the organization JWs did engage in debating, then stopping at some point. Today it is frowned on. Does anyone know why the change?
can someone tell me please when was the first time that the wts published something to the effect that the kingdom of god was born in heavens in 1914 / jesus enthroned invisibly in 1914 ?
i see an obscure reference to an article in a golden age magazine in 1930 but i can't find the actual quote,.
not looking for quotes that talk about the "coming" or "presence" since 1914. i'm looking for actual mention that the kingdom started in heavens in 1914. when was the first ever time this was clearly said in the publications?
Jaydee, thanks for the post.
I checked your posted pages and they are identical, word for word, to my 1928 edition of Harp.
It amazes me that the Society published a 1940 edition of Harp without updating the information inside to match current teachings, or I should say what I thought current teaching were at that time, which is that the return of Christ had been shifted to 1914.
I don't think they flip-flopped back to teaching 1874 (as the return of Christ), then switched back to 1914 again later on. Rather they just republished the Harp as it was with no changes. Why would they do that? Do you (or does anyone else) have any ideas on this? Just doesn't make sense, it's as if somebody dropped the ball. But then nothing Watchtower does should surprise me by now.
As a side note, they had published about a million and a half more copies of Harp by 1940: 4,220,000 (1928) vs 5,744,000 (1940). That's a lot of copies being circulated with information that wasn't being taught by then. But it was! As you say, it's a curiosity.

get ready to shun for the governing body the greater moses.
did they really say this.
I'm curious too, is the governing body now calling itself the greater Moses?

jw07: I'd love to know the chain of command when it comes to approving video releases.
What do you think is going on?
JWs, especially the Governing Body, live in such an isolated world of fantasy that they don't see themselves the way normal people see them. They don't hear themselves the way normal people hear them.
In their mind, since they are "directed by God's holy spirit," they see no flaws in what they produce even though much of it is laughable.
If anyone ever needed to take off the rose colored glasses while looking at themselves in the mirror it's the GB of JWs.

There were late printings of The Harp of God. 1937, even a 1940 edition of the book.
That's interesting. Did they not update the information inside to match what was currently being taught by 1937?
in response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.
I got one: if we,evolved over billions of years of survival of the fittest, how do you account for Stephen lett?
