August 1, 2001Televised programs help doctors cope with international blood shortage
"I just finished watching a program that was very comprehensive, and simple to follow. I am an anesthesiologist and I work with junior doctors. This is exactly what they need; this is very valuable information!" Dr. Muthu Veerappan enthusiastically responded after watching the award-winning program Transfusion-Alternative Strategies—Simple, Safe, Effective when it aired on television in his home country of Malaysia. Dr. Veerappan runs a clinic and works closely with a teaching hospital, so he has proposed using Transfusion-Alternative Strategies in their training program. "There are many problems with the blood supply—HIV and hepatitis. . . . Recently we had several discussions in our department on how to reduce use of blood transfusion. . . . By doing this, we can overcome many problems."
Television stations in the United States also aired this and the related program No Blood—Medicine Meets the Challenge during recent months. One viewer who spent years working in the medical profession commented on what she saw: "I appreciated the technical information that was put forth and how accurate it was." Another viewer said: "Thanks to the medical community in their efforts to improve the quality of medical care for all of us!"
"May you progress very, very rapidly with this program; it is very needed" remarked 70-year old Hazel Bowen, a resident of Louisville, Kentucky. Hazel watched the televised program with great interest. She has myasthenia gravis, and her body also has trouble producing iron. She has had to have treatments for some time that included transfusions, but Hazel would prefer to be treated without blood. After watching the program she obtained the number and address of the nearest hospital specializing in bloodless treatment options.
Since then Hazel has consulted with specialists at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, which has an established bloodless program, leading her to this conclusion: "I think it is a very valuable program at the present time. I think it is going to be a very necessary program in the future. I don't think I have ever received more time and care than from the people who worked with me on this."
Future broadcasts of these two videos and other educational material will be aired for the benefit of the general public, courtesy of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Silentlambs and Signifiers that Signify Nothing
by dunsscot incall me a neopositivist, a semi-verificationist or semi-falsificationist, but the claims made by "silentlambs" reminds me of the shakespearean line that was quoted in the creator book published by the wtbts.
that is, the contentions of silentlambs seem like much "sound and fury" that in truth signify nothing.
i am of course referring to the supposed dateline show and the claims made about some members of the gb of jehovah's witnesses.

Quote from Mommie Dark:
"Thinks he's smarter than everyone else, AND morally superior! Like I said, a pompous ass. He knows he's making a fool of himself, but he has to pretend to disdain everyone here because his pride won't let him drop the snobbery and be just plain human."
Haven't you guys figured it out yet????????????

Hey Sonoita,
I am glad the Governing Body did something, I am just sad they lied about how they did it. The Red Cross helps people in need around the world, You do not have to be a "member" to get help. The Habitat for Humanities builds home for poor people, not just Baptists. For wt to have an official news release and give the impression they are assisting "neighbors" in a flood relief effort is just unmitigated bullshit. To help your religious members is no doubt a good thing, but to imply you are serving the community has to be the ultimate in hypocritical masturbation.

July 25, 2001Thousands of volunteers flood Houston
HOUSTON—After Allison pounded the city of Houston with nearly three feet of rain in a single 24-hour period, approximately 9,000 local Jehovah's Witnesses responded by volunteering time, skilled labor and materials to assist their neighbors. Almost immediately, a relief committee was formed to organize repair work on the 625 homes of Witnesses that were damaged.
Witness volunteers had to act quickly to prevent toxic mold from growing in the rain-soaked homes. The relief committee arranged to send a crew of volunteers to each of the homes. Plans include first removing damaged Sheetrock and insulation, then cleaning and sanitizing the affected areas, installing new insulation and Sheetrock, applying fresh paint, and replacing cabinets and flooring.
Not just Jehovah's Witnesses benefited from this volunteer spirit.
Major highways, flooded with rivers of water, prevented all but two members of the day staff of the Radisson Hotel near Hobby Airport from arriving at work on Saturday morning. Jehovah's Witnesses, in Houston for their annual Bible convention, occupied 140 of the hotel's 288 rooms. They quickly realized that the hotel needed assistance to care for its guests. According to John Rodriquez, the Hotel Duty Manager, the Witnesses ran every department except the front desk, and that was only because they were not familiar with the system. Mr. Rodriguez expressed thanks for an "amazing" performance.
A post office manager staying at the hotel stopped a Witness who had pitched in and helped with food preparation and said: "I know you don't work here. I just want you to know I appreciate what you are doing. You are feeding my family and taking care of my workers, and I won't forget this."
There are just under 54,000 Jehovah's Witnesses in the Houston area and just over 6 million worldwide. For more information on the local relief work of Jehovah's Witnesses in Houston, please visit www.jwrelief.org.

Question for the ExJW's
by ExmormonRobertson inin mormonism, usually when someone leaves the church, the members give one of two reason for that person leaving.
1. they couldn't live the standards of the church.
or 2. someone in the church had hurt their feelings.. my question is: is this the usual reason the jw's give when this happens to someone who leaves?

I might offer a few, add as you see fit.
1. Improper conduct that leads to disfellowshiping or disassociation.
2. Gross injustice by mean/stupid elders or CO.
3. Burn out from the total mind control.
4. Independant thinking.
5. Hatred of field service and or platform talks.
6. Disagreement with doctrine and confiding in a "friend".
7. Boredom.
8. Disfunctional families escape.
9. Tired of the guilt bombing.
10. Tired of pretending nothing is wrong. -

Rumor has it that WT is expecting to possibly lose the case for a reconized religion in Germany. They are planning to build a Patterson type complex that can take care of all the printing for Europe. This load has been carried primarily by Germany to this point. The handwriting is on the wall, things in Germany are not going as well as they appear. Wt could stand to lose land and holdings if they are shut down in Germany. By moving everything to Britain it would be a safer place to be since being granted religious non-profit status in England.
Besides when you have millions to blow and volunteer labor, why not have some fun. -

Society Movie from 1967
by drahcir yarrum inin 1967 or 1968 the society had a film out designed for teenagers titled "heritage".
it was the most pathetic, but hilarious propaganda movie i ever remember seeing.
does anyone know if this movie is still in existence?

The heritage film was eventually retired due to being out of date. It was maintained by key men in the circuit arrangement and loaned out on request to other elders who wanted to show it again in their congregation. I remember my father had a copy that sat for years in the corner of his office. I can't recall if he had to turn it back in to the CO or if he eventually threw it away. Point of interest I recently talked to a brother who wa sin the film and knew several of the others. They recruited several jersey boys as well as bethelites for the filming. Just a bit of trivial worthless JW nostalgia.

Something I wrote one troubled night, perhaps it can help....
I lost my heart when I used my mind
It is a road many have traveled, an uncertain path wrought with fear and adversity, yet a journey that for many must be completed or they will never feel at peace. When a person has heart, they may be described as motivated, a leader, a person who draws others to their cause. Such was the case with I, everything, every fiber of my being was immersed in dedication to a cause I felt was the only sense that could be made of life as we know it in the world we live in. As all humans are given a gift to find or when discovered to use to feel fulfillment in life, so was I given a unique gift I discovered at a young age and that was to teach. I found great satisfaction in being able to impart in creative ways knowledge that would in turn motivate many to expend themselves in what I thought would be the best way of life. So many lives I have touched with a smug satisfaction that over time has evaporated into despair at realizing I was used as a tool to waste the lives of so many. Somewhere along the way this creative mind I was given began to turn against my heart, my motivation, everything I placed as important in life. How could it do this to me? I fought for years to forget, suppress and simply not think of troubling issues, but my mind could not be lobotomized into motivated activity without reason. It was a battle, a war with all the pain and anguish that destroys the innocence of young boys who go in with a noble cause, then come out forever changed after enduring the results that war produces. Very similar was my battle, not with guns or bullets, but instead, with heart and mind, an internal conflict complete with charging victories and withering surrenders that exhaust the body and torment your soul. Would it ever end? Would I destroy myself before a victory could be found? The only solution I could find was to make a decision, as indecision is what wastes a person’s sanity. I must set a time, a limit as to when victory would be declared one way or the other. Whatever the consequences I would accept and move on with my life. I gave it a year, as that year progressed my mind began to bombard my heart with the heavy artillery of reason. The harder I tried to work, the heavier the blast of trying to find the reason why. I could feel my heart beginning to concede, my joy, was no more. The very thing from which I drew the most pleasure, teaching others creatively, became a heavy load that came to the point of feeling physically ill when I approached the platform. I did away with all notes, research and study, it was too painful, I just spoke from my heart, a heart that was losing the battle, yet would fight courageously like a loyal knight defending the honor of a corrupt king in a cause he knew he could not win. Finally the battle ended, like the eerie silence that drifts over a war zone at the end of the day, there was no celebration, no party, no jubilation, instead a sad realization it was finally over.My mind had won a hard fought victory with excellent strategy and complete superiority had destroyed the enemy. But this was not the enemy, it was an old friend, something I had dispatched so handily in the heat of battle, now lay before me slowly dieing with nothing but pleading in his eyes for me to save him somehow. An old friend who had came through for me so many times, who always had my back when trouble threatened, who picked me up when I was down and kept me going. Even though he was misguided how could I have hurt him so?
I feel I must gently pick him up, take him to a safe place, and carefully nurse him back to health. He must be saved for he is my heart my motivation for finding a cause to fight for. You see even though my mind won the battle, without my heart I lose the war.
It is a long process, much like a wounded soldier, the rehabilitation is a slow and arduous progression. The trust is no longer there, the will to fight, while still a twinkle, quickly gives out when too much is asked. I recall the saying, “sometimes it just takes time to heal.” I know I must not give up on it, but I feel my heart will never be the same and I hope that change will be realized someday as for the better. Perhaps this story can be a reminder to remember to not lose your heart when you use your mind.
