Well Perry, I am happy for you.
There are in my opinion, a spectrum of dangerous belief systems and despite our differing views on belief, I am happy to see you advance far away from a particularly ugly one, Watchtower. We have that in common bro. Hope you enjoyed giving your talk, I imagine it felt like a milestone.

Christian bakery ordered to pay $150 000 to gay couple
by cofty inan oregon bakery that refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage has lost its appeal..... the judge has ordered 'sweet cakes by melissa' to pay $150 000 damages to rachel and laurel bowman-cryer.. discrimination is illegal, and religious superstition is not an excuse.
how long before jws land in court under similar circumstances?.

Great point cofty, they will quote changes in homosexual doctrine to be drivers in community progress around the world......
Coming back to the OP, I have felt for some time that JW's skate far to close to the edges of religious extremism for most people now. the literature is less provocative thanit was but only because the homophobic culture survives well without it being printed in ink. I know teens disfellowshipped from my old hall, cut off from all friends and family, because they refused to pretend to be straight for the rest of their lives. It is a crime and one day, it will be punished as such, rightly so.

Simon I sincerely think the new format is not conducive to a high turn over forum and long pages of chat as we love to have here.
Please don't misinterpret what I say, I am hugely greatful for your work, but for sure I find the format obstructive. I am just saying if others feel the same, it may explain the numbers.

Prince Charles, Cameron and Obama on their way to Saudi
by Xanthippe inwhat do you think of royalty and premiers going to pay their respects at the death of saudi's king abdullah in light of the human rights abuses; public executions and people getting a hundred lashes for criticising islam?
a hundred lashes!
wouldn't that kill someone!

The lashes are done over several weeks.
He was an illiterate fool, very cruel too.

Really don't feel like a JW anymore
by snare&racket init has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.
a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.
i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.

Due to my job I occasionally interact with JW's , perhaps once a month. I never mention that I once printed the magazines they hold with them.
It feels good, I feel normal.
Part of me didn't want to mention this because of the time involved, yes it has taken >10 years BUT it is possible to untangle the JW nonsense indoctrinated from childhood on.
For many years, it felt like I would always have deep resentment, a constant anguish and anger inside for stolen years (25) a stolen youth, all the lies, all the deceit etc etc.
Now I am just greatful to have got out and away...... I do not miss a thing and despite this being a shock to me, to say..... I also no longer miss anyone.
i don't miss the armageddon hunger.
i don't miss the ignorance.
i don't miss the internal policing,
i don't miss the constant judging.
i don't miss the constant self denial.
i don't miss the though control.
i don't mis the competitiveness.
i don't miss the materialism.
i don't miss the endemic alcoholism.
i don't miss the casual domestic violence,
i don't miss the coveting for mass genocide in exchange of a cabin built on someone else's land, surrounded by pandas.
All of the above does not make a good human being. the longer I am away from such people, when I do meet up with them now, I realise how they are NOT good members of society. They are not healthy families. It is not a peaceful, pleasant religion at all.
A financial institution, ran like a Orwellian slave camp, in the guise of a religion..... What's to miss?
