Thanks for sharing Emma. I feel for them both. The young man whose wife left him especially hit home for me. My brother's wife just recently left him to remain in the organization and he's left trying to pick up the pieces and start over. So sick and twisted that org. is!! π

The last video in the 2016 convention...
by problemaddict 2 in...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.
bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.
he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.

Newspaper article on Conventionsβwhy so glowing?
by Londo111 inevery year in dozens of cities where conventions are being held, newspapers typically write an article about the event.
there are exceptions, but usually it is like the articles above.
i would love to see more newspaper articles that did some actual objective reporting, rather than puff pieces.

My opinion echoes the sentiment of Wu- Tang Clan "cash rules everything around me, C.R.E.A.M get the money, dolla dolla bills y'all" ππ
seriously tho, financial gain is a big part of the positivity in the articles. Hosting these jw conventions brings in a good amount of money to the cities it's held in. So I don't think they care about what goes on inside.

Baptized niece crowned prom queen. Could her dad loose his MS appt?
by StarTrekAngel inso my niece (not thru my brother but rather my wife) had been talking about going to her prom.
the family had privately been somewhat doubtful that she would be allowed to go.
the problem was that they kept promising she would be allowed but history has shown us that her parents tend to get her excited about things and then drop the denial on her at the last minute.

I also am not familiar with how Hispanic congs. operate. I was not really one for the dances/proms, but when I was coming up - I lived up north, a couple hours from Bethel -there was a couple of my friends in my congregation who planned to go to the prom together. The had their dresses ready, their limo, very excited. Well...word got back to the elders and literally 1 week before the prom they had a local needs talk on the evils of proms and why parents shouldn't allow their kids to go. So their moms felt guilty and took back their permission and they were not allowed to go. I felt so bad for them.

Died Due To Refusing Blood Transfusion
by rrb2016 inwell, last monday my mother, a jehovah's witness since her baptism in 1968 died last week because she would not accept a blood transfusion.
she was 76 and had lung and skin cancer.
i know that the cancer would have gotten her anyway, but she was bleeding internally, and was told that she needs a blood transfusion, as her blood count went all the way down to 3.2 (should be 12-14.

"The Bunker" WT Conventions 2016 (Gag Me)
by Poztate inin the very near future the gang will be down in a bunker, cellar awaiting the police, military to break in and take them away to camps or executions .
(paranoid much) this is the foretold "prophecy" of the governments turning on religion and saving them for last.since the couple portrayed as simplifying their life by getting rid of a lot of material things is shown to be (about) the same age in the bunker we know it must be any minute now that it will happen.
i have been out for over 35 years and things seem to be getting more bizarre each year.. when did this doctrine really become main stream?

π I too still can't shake all the fear tactics this I was exposed to as a child. Terrifying.... ruined my mental and emotional stability. Growing up thinking that shit is normal??? No wonder I'm a mess, constantly working to undo the damage. This insane bunker video brings it all back. No way in hell I would take my precious babies to anything like this- so glad I got out of that awful cult! They won't have to deal any of that. -

How was your wedding? Did you have a jw wedding or something different? My wedding was not what either of us wanted at first, but it turned out very lovely. We wanted a beach wedding, same destination as our honeymoon, kill two birds with one stone you know? But my mom was close to the end stage of her illness and wouldn't be able to travel. So we thought maybe something small with the ceremony at the hall and reception at my parents' house.
But that wasn't going to be good enough for my parents lol! Nope, they wanted their only girl to have the big jw affair complete with a wedding gown, huge guest list and reception. I wanted to make my mom smile as much as I could, that was really important to me. Sure, it was our day, but I knew time with her was limited. All that mattered was that we were getting married.
Anyway, I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but we partied soooooo hard at our reception! Great food, booze, great music (nothing was off limitsπππΎππΎππΎ) no boring speeches or line dances lol...it was great. My in laws still talk about how much fun they had.
It's a rainy day here in GA, so I thought I would share a nice and light experience.

I noticed the org. also started to have depressing interviews at the regional conventions a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if it was further back than that, but definitely the last 2. Where ppl would be getting interviewed on how they overcame losing their mate to a illness, accident, or some illness they have and dealing with it all while being a faithful servant. And for some of these ppl, it was very recent. I just remember thinking to myself, 'how is this supposed to make me feel good?' Very depressing stuff.
