dear dmouse and your precious son, please help him to build his self worth. My mother commited suicide at the age of 35 due to that very thing. Help your son and daughter to find friends outside of the borg,
my son has had a childhood friend who is pentecost and we never stopped them from being together. We just enrolled him in tae kwon do, and he loves it, his best friend is doing it with him. His friend is also going thru alot of what he is with religion , since his mother is a devout pentecost. Kids just want and need to be kids,
talk to him everyday, help him with research about the jw organization.Get him out of the house and involved in real life, tell him to hell with all the so called good associations because i know as my son, who by the way is 15 , that they are not at all angels . Let him know you want him to have a free mind and take the time to decide what he wants to do . It may take time for him to do it but leaving the jw is a lenghty process, recovery takes years some say.
Just watch him everyday for signs of depression and if necessary take him to a doctor or someone who can help him, I wish I would have known about that kind of thing when my mom needed help so bad. God bless you and your children.

My son contemplates suicide.
by dmouse inmy 14 year old son, benjamin, confided in me last night that he almost tried to commit suicide this week, he felt so low.. he has been brought up as a jw by his mum all his short life and until recently totally believed all the crap.
although he has not been baptised yet he expressed the desire to pioneer and go to bethel.. then, in the past few months, he suddenly woke up and smelt what he was shovelling.. my son is an extremely gregarious, likable boy with lots of friends in the congregation.
he is always invited to the get-togethers etc.

My husband and I have been out of the JW for about 10 months now, not d/a or d/f yet. They just havent caught us on some things they could get us for ! But that is all fluff, we dont beleive a thing they teach anymore. We are studing on our own, not diligent study , but as we feel like it. In the mean time we are living for the weekends, to go out dancing , drinking and acting like teenagers. We were both raised JW and never had any fun at all. It feels so great to be alive now, but sometimes I feel guilty for wanting to just have fun now. Do any of ya'll or have you in the different stages of recovery , after leaving JW gone thru this? My son is 15 and we can sit and talk for hours about what we want to do with our lives and how we dont know what the future holds. The only difference is he does have the rest of his life, so much of mine was wasted . I wonder if others are bitter about all the wasted years, but at the same time do you feel happier now?

Who will go to heaven?
by misty ini know that jw's say only 144,000. however, i just read a book called "as time runs out" by robert jeffress and he claims that all christians who have received jesus will be picked up at the rapture.
but, he says, we will not all have the same rank in heaven.
he claims that different responsibilities will be assigned.

I am really stumped on this one thing, will I go to heaven when I die.
I dont have a clue, I am not sure if it is just plain and simple brainwashing by JW that wont allow me to beleive in going to heaven or what. I would love to go to heaven, it just seems too good to be true, but at the same time , I wonder if when you die ,is that the end? I dont know if I can even beleive enough to stand up for one thing or the other. I am not sure I even beleive that the Bible is inspired or if it is not a fairy tale. Boy, I sound a little bitter dont I? Just an unbeleiver that thought I knew for sure the whole truth and my destination, then the rug was pulled out from under my feet. I would rather be not sure and be a searcher for the rest of my life , even if it means I die not knowing where I will go when I die, than to be a fool. Being a JW is being a fool with your head shoved up your butt. At least I might not be any more knowledgeable than I thought I was , but I like myself better. I know one thing , I have this life , what is left of it and I plan to make the best of this life, there may not be anything after it. I wasted too many years worring about making it thru armeggedon , I wasnt being a better person. I think it is for me, the best way and only way to look at things for now. I will think of heaven tomorrow. -

I've been studying for about a year now...
by Meow921 ini've been studying with the jw's for about a year now.
i know that by nature (or nurture!
) i have an addictive personality so i have tried to be real careful that i'm doing the right thing by getting involved with them.

Meow, I was raised a JW , so I never had the choice on what to beleive growing up. I am know 35 yrs old and it hasnt been a year since I have left, it has been the hardest thing in my life to do.
But I swear that it is the right thing for me to do. I started having doubts and thank God for the internet to help me open my poor little closed , brainwashed mind. For the first time in my life , I started to think, on my own, without a watchtower or someone telling me what the Bible is saying. I started reading just the Bible and with an open mind started to see things that were in contrast to what JW have told me all of my life. I am still in the recovery stage, and I still dont know what the real whole truth about the Bible is saying, maybe I never will, but I know enough already to know that the JW are not the real truth, some of the things they teach are "pretty" sayings but it is not real truth. Just have an open mind, weigh the things you are learning with JW with careful study about their history , which by the way will blow your mind, and remember knowledge is power!
I truly think if our faith in what we beleive is strong and true , we can look up and question it , put it to the test. I know from experience once you are baptised you will never be able to question anything, you just have to accept all the new changes they decided to come up with weither you like it or not. So take the time NOW and question, before it is too late. -

When Leaving - what did you find hardest to do??

I felt like a baby learning to walk, falling and getting back up.Everything in my life was all of a sudden different, the way I looked at things , the things I did and said. I am at the toddler stage now, getting into everything !!!! I guess I am having the childhood I never had. But it is still hard seeing the jw and them still coming over occassionally and seeing them in town. Since we are not d/f or d/a it is just awkward. Plus I dont want to give them any reason to be able to d/f me, if I go , I want to do it myself d/a myself with a blaze of glory!! So trying not to get caught on somethings has been a pain in the ass. But really if they catch me, I dont really give a crap, I am ready!

TV & Kingdom
by WildTurkey inhow did going to the kingdom hall, interfere with your tv viewing?
i love watching american football, so right after the meeting all in my family would go straight for the car, so we could catch as much as possible.
-

I remember we had one meeting that started at 7:30 at nite , not sure which one it was thou. We lived 2 blocks from the hall, but since daddy was an elder we had to be there early. I always wanted to watch Happy Days, the Fonz was so coool! I only got 5 mins of it , I never in my whole life saw more than that of the entire show. Later as an adult I loved ER, I honestly was glad to stay home just to watch it!
How sad is that? LOL But since wild turkey told you how much he loved to catch the game, let me tell you another little secret he had!!hehe If it came on early , before the meeting was over, he would take one of the unruly children with him to the car and listen to the game on the radio!!!! Dont you just love him!! Boy he would jump when he would see someone come up to that car. I bet he turned the game down so they wouldnt hear what he was listening too. He was the only man in our hall that was not a sissy , all the other brothers didnt even like sports much less football. -

Who is actualy a jehovah witness here? I mean Jeez
by ShyGurlie inim a young high school girl who thinks that this is crazy.
-
LyinEyes
Please young girl, open your mind and just allow yourself to read of what JW's are really about. I was one my whole life and somehow I found out there was so much I didnt know about the organization and what was accutally printed in their own magazines from the time of Russel. You would be shocked to find out that Russel, came up with 1914 by a pyramid measurement!! This is crazy. That was the first thing that sparked my interest in what I was really involved in. Just take a look and see, if your faith is strong , it should hold up to anything. It is your choice, but give yourself a chance to see the truth . Your life is just beginning, dont waste it . The Bible says to keep trying your faith to see that it is solid.

My mother had been a faithful witness for 16 yrs, she got addicted to prescription drugs and things got very bad for her. She overdosed one nite and was put in rehab. She began smoking after rehab and was disfellowhipped for it, she got a letter in the mail . I dont recall the elders or anyone , trying to help her in her time of need. Not over the drug abuse or to see if she needed help with her mental health. A few months after she was disfellowshipped , she jumped to her death and drowned. I know she was ate up with guilt at what her life had become , she was only 35 and suffered from depression and our home life was full of secrets and hypocrisey. How sad I feel to hear about the Bryant's tragedy. How many more people will choose to end thier lives than feel the pain of what they see as no way out. I feel strongly on telling this story so as to see how many people out there are suffering after being disfellowshipped. How can we help them to not end their lives? I left the borg less than a year ago, and without this internet info, I might have been a sad statistic too.
You can not isolate yourself and it is wrong to be shunned , those who shun others in such a way , have blood on their hands.
