Safehouse?

just throwing this out for feedback.

do you think there would be much call for a safehouse for people escaping abusive/cult situations?

looking for ideas for locations, financing, other considerations.

IDK why there's not any comments on this post- it's a good question and it would help a lot to have this as a known resource for ones that are trying to break away.

seriously, half day in (already had an argument with the wife this morning about individuality in the organization in which she conceded that a lot of it is based on looks) and this is already getting on my nerves.

i'll post a rebuttal based on my annotations later in the week but one thing i got to get off my mind: saying the feminist movement (women going to work instead of staying home) and the diversity laws (allowing for homosexuality - but also religious freedom, racial discrimination etc.

) caused a lot of the problems in our world right from the stage.. there are less people here than last year - about 500 less..

a SIMPLE answer re: 607 please

i know it's a complicated topic, and i've spent gobs and gobs of hours studying it and realizing that 586/587 is the most likely date.

so anyway, here's my question:.

how could jerusalem's fall be 587 but still be in line with the scriptures about 70 years of desolation that the wto uses to push 607 so strongly?

How could Jerusalem's fall be 587 but still be in line with the scriptures about 70 years of desolation that the WTO uses to push 607 so strongly? They say that 607 - 537 = 70 years and that's their "easy" answer. How could the fall line up with scripture and 587?

I am debating this with a family member and going round and round and round, ad infinitum. Help! Easy answers only please....

(if that's even possible)

Bethelites - heavy pressure to auxiliary pioneer this past April?

forgot to mention this as a "highlight" of the dc i recently attended.. the speaker was giving details of how many jws served as auxiliary pioneers in april (when the hour requirement was temporarily reduced to 30).. something like 2.5 or 2.7 million of the worldwide population of jws ap'ed that month.. the really surprising thing was, 83% of the us bethel "family" pioneered that month!

57% of the worldwide bethel "family' ap'ed in april.. can you imagine?

40+, maybe 50+ hours of work per week, "family" wt study, the congregation you attend probably 45-60 minutes away...and 83% "volunteered" their services to get 30+ hours of field serve-us in?.

Massive pressure. We got it bigtime from the Elder body in April. When I was at Bethhell (a long time ago lol) I was told that it was unbalanced TO Aux Pi because of the heavy load at Bethel and that it was sacred service, hour for hour same as the ministry.

To put in 30 hrs locally as well must have been very exhausting on most of that 83%...

there may be no way legally for me to stop this, but it is a worry since i "woke up" to the truth about the truth a couple years ago.. now my young kids (9 and 11) are heading in that direction at the urging of their mother.

i am still inside and trying to do a fade (for family/friend reasons) but sometimes i wonder if leaving would be smarter in the long run for them.

any thoughts or strategies are welcome.. .

@Black Sheep - I looked up all those verses you suggest we read at family study night. Not to be dense, but what does any of that have to do with baptism?

The account of the demons going into the swine is weird but how would asking those questions about the account help dissuade them from getting baptized? Am I missing something?

there may be no way legally for me to stop this, but it is a worry since i "woke up" to the truth about the truth a couple years ago.. now my young kids (9 and 11) are heading in that direction at the urging of their mother.

i am still inside and trying to do a fade (for family/friend reasons) but sometimes i wonder if leaving would be smarter in the long run for them.

any thoughts or strategies are welcome.. .

@pbro - I can see your point, but not sure full-on "going apostate" is the right course at this point. The wife is very strong minded and fully "captive to the concept" at this time so she aint going to budge.

@NathanN - Your advice is good and for now probably my only choice. The kids are not pushing for baptism yet but I soon some of their friends are going to be getting baptized and that will probably start the idea in their minds, which my wife will of course encourage.

@JWfacts - yes I've been teaching them history, worldview, religion, etc. for a while now, all indirect stuff but hopefully the framework will be in plavce when it comes to a head...which it will at some point it's inevitable. BTW one of their favorite stories is about Martin Luther standing up to church leaders. So we will see...

i have put together a video - growing up a jehovah's witness 1960 -2010. it aims to show the things a witnesses would be taught as they age over those decades.

it is 15 minutes long.

this is my first attempt at a video and it took a while to work out how to use final cut, so please feel free to make suggestions if anything should be changed.

Selling literature on ebay? Good, bad or ugly?

many of you are collectors of the older literature especially.

i have been involved for 50 years with wtb&ts and have 4 generations prior to me involved.

i started collecting the literature and releases log ago and always viewed it as a hobby.

At an elder's meeting the CO once said, "On Ebay one apostate is selling our books to another apostate. We can get whatever publications we want at the literature counter!"

But he was talking about the flock book at the time, which was/is all over the net.

@mummatron - Pulling rank and just saying no won't work w my wife she is firmly aware of obeying "God rather than men" (specifically her man lol) I may try the Jesus' age of 30 point, thank you for that.

Plus they are still a bit young but I'm trying to prepare them now for ways to avoid it bc in the next year or two their little friends in the hall are going to start getting dunked and that's always when they want to do it, or at least become interested in it.

@Black sheep - am looing at the book on Amazon right now, very cool.
