Where's the one of Jesus doing needlepoint?

Last week I met a guy who sells these incredibly weird things called "Yo-God" compasses. Their website is http://www.yo-god.com (I'll edit to correct if necessary...) Apparently if you have one of these things you can set it up on your table and ask "god" a question. The dial will swing from "yes" to "no". (Definitely not as comprehensive as an "8 ball".) They want you to report "god" sightings if you have one. It was just a little bit twisted.....

for anyone that cares, after 4 months of unemployment and living off roman noodles and kool-aid, i have finally gotten a job.

it's at www.livecapsule.com doing the interface for their software.. the office is damn pretty, in front of me is an entire wall of glass facing the ocean.

My son contemplates suicide.

my 14 year old son, benjamin, confided in me last night that he almost tried to commit suicide this week, he felt so low.. he has been brought up as a jw by his mum all his short life and until recently totally believed all the crap.

although he has not been baptised yet he expressed the desire to pioneer and go to bethel.. then, in the past few months, he suddenly woke up and smelt what he was shovelling.. my son is an extremely gregarious, likable boy with lots of friends in the congregation.

he is always invited to the get-togethers etc.

Most people who contemplate suicide do NOT really want to die; they are hurting so very badly that they want the pain to stop.

If rank and file witnesses are even remotely aware that their stupid "he's bad association now, don't be seen with him in public" edicts result in so much heartbreak, they are guilty of emotional blackmail, intentional abuse, and loathesome evil. If a young person succeeds in an attempt to "stop the pain", then they are guilty of murder.

If this was my son (I've been in your position - my son had other issues, not jw-related) I would do some real coaching with him as to what REAL friendships are about: loyalty, extending benefits of doubts, affection and concerns for NO reason other than they are their individual self!!!

"Friendship" within the borg is entirely conditional upon arbitrary and unpredictable capricious "customs" that have everything to do with FEAR AND CONTROL. A True Friend will support him wherever and however his own personal journey for truth takes him... intervening only if there are reasons for concern that the road he might take could be harmful to himself or others...

Not inviting him to events because he has some kind of goofy "label" on his forehead now (he had the AUDACITY to be honest and open! How evil!!) is all about their protecting their OWN backsides. It has NOTHING to do with his spirituality or worth as a person....

Echo on the professional intervention asap advice, too, dmouse.

Please let us know how he gets through this....

Doomed to be Sad!

firstly, before i say why i'm doomed to be sad, i'd like to give you the good news : i've got the all clear which means that my malignant melanoma skin cancer is all gone!

the surgery worked, so i dont need any more treatment!

so why am i doomed to be sad?

I had no idea you had been going through such an ordeal. How wonderful to have peace of mind about that...! Okay. No more nude sunbathing for you.

As far as your mother's psychic/foretelling the future abilities go, living well is the best revenge.

It's appalling at times, and amusing at others - to see how a truly ensnared jw will regard virtually any event (good or bad) as an indication of someone's spiritual "standing". I once had a ministerial servant imply that my brother's death may have been prevented by Jehovah if....... whatever.

I have thought very long and hard at times about whether I've ever REALLY known ANY individual jw to be "happy"; I can't think of ONE person who is a jw and who is not plagued with some issue that they must "endure" on a daily basis. They "rely on Jehovah" and "wait for the end".....

In fact, if a jw IS happy, they are suspect! (This world is EVIL!!! This system is ONLY FIT FOR COMPLETE DESTRUCTION!!!) Being miserable is a sort of honor badge they wear. I took mine off and have never been happier in my life.

When You Were Devout, What Was The Most..

when you were a devout witness, what were the teachings that you couldnt accept, even though you believed most of the rest?.

1. we know the bible is true, it proves itself true.

I could never quite shake the initial jolt of "yeah, right... you guys must really think we're STUPID" and quite frankly cold fear of the self-assuming ARROGANCE I experienced when I first read their 'explanation'of the events described in Daniel chapter 12, vs 11-12. (It was contained in an old blue book; can't remember its title.....)

And from the time that the constant feature has been removed and there has been a placing of the disgusting thing that is causing desolation, there will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Happy is the one who is keeping in expectation and who arrives at the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days!

They proclaimed that these numbered periods of time had been fulfilled during arcane assemblies where certain publications were released....(1,290 days after some October date (October: always reliable for prophesy fulfillment) in 1919; some major convention in like Cleveland or something) events so monumental that they had to be kept "sealed" for centuries ...not to mention so awe-inspiringly fabulous and integral to the "divine plan" that they were contained in bible cannon...

I am simply dumbfounded after reading your words.

I don't know what hits the hardest for me as a reader - empathy for you for the utterly hideous event that you endured;

disgust and a lingering feeling of nausea and pure hatred for the clueless fools to whom you were forced to look towards for "help;" they are worse than any random perpetrator imo - (I am not shocked by your story, but each time I read of such things I'm aghast with the utter STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE on the part of men who presume to "represent" anything having to do with God, or spirituality or truth, ....)

incredibly stunned by your strength of character and insight.
