Father's Day, For Witnesses or Not?
by dontplaceliterature ini did a quick cdrom search on this holiday.
there is not a single article that ties this holiday to paganism.
there are a few about mother's day.

Those who WERE or ARE Elders (Re: Molestation Coverup)
by dontplaceliterature ini'd like to hear from those who are currently elders or were formerly elders on your honest feelings about the charges brought against the society and their general policy in handling these matters.
do you think that the society handles child abuse accusations fairly?
or, do you think their policy is abusive?

What it takes to become an atheist.
by dontplaceliterature ini was pondering this today during lunch, and to me it seems that it comes down to whether or not you can accept that you will one day be permanantly gone and anyone you have lost in death will never be alive again.
once a person becomes comfortable with these two ideas, there isn't really any incentive to believe.
maybe it's an over simplification, but it seems to me that this is the heart of the matter.

Wizard of Oz
by dontplaceliterature ini know plenty of jehovah's witnesses who own and love this movie.
in addition to that, i know some who are big fans of the musical, wicked.
i suppose anything having to do with these will be lumped into the garbage by end of summer?.

The 3-Day Escape
by dontplaceliterature ini was listening the the steve hassan interview that was posted on this forum by bangalore.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/226147/1/interview-with-steve-hassan.
something that struck me is that hassan mentions a couple of times that before he released his book, if people could break away from the cult for three days to visit family, or be in an environment where they were free from the social pressure, they could be helped out much easier.
once he released his book, he said that every cult leader picked up a copy of it, and it became more difficult for him to help people out, because cult leaders were more careful about letting members out of their sight for an extended period of time.. i was trying to draw a parallel to jehovah's witnesses, and i'm not sure if i have a strong one, so i was hoping for some feedback from you all.

The Fine Art of Baloney Detection
by dontplaceliterature ini'm currently reading the demon-haunted world, by carl sagan.
chapter 12, "the fine art of baloney detection", has a great list of logical fallacies which are part of what sagan calls the "baloney detection kit.
" although i've learned a great deal about what exactly logical fallacies were since i started leaving the organization, this is by far the most comprehensive list, and i thought it would be nice to share it with all of you.

"We miss you."
by dontplaceliterature init's beginning to annoy me when people send me text messages and e-mails of this sort.
it's even more annoying when it comes from people who i primarily associated with while i was still active, but who i haven't heard a word from since i quit going to meetings a couple months ago.
most of these people live less than five minutes from me and would be welcome at my house anytime.
