My fathers weekly visit from the witnesses
by Igot2bme inmy father who has never been a jw had a visit from a brother in a congo in his territory.
he usually comes over at least one time a week and places magazines and shoots the breeze with him about different issues.
this last visit though left a sour taste with him.

What was something that you loved but were denied as a JW?
by Chemical Emotions ini could go on and on about all the things i loved, but i'll keep it brief and just mention one, rather trivial thing: music.
i love grunge and punk, and occasionally heavy metal, and can't listen to a lot of it as a witness..

I am doing some of those things now. Halloween, Christmas, etc. I am reading books on WRESTLING and fantasy. I have R rated movies. It just keeps getting better and better.

I am dealing with that now. It is so sad for me. All those years wasted on so called friends. None have called me since I moved to Mexico in these 4 years. HAve I called them? About 6 times each. They have never even asked for my phone number. LOUSY people!

Crimes committed by JWs
by Black Man inhey all, i'm still embroiled in my ongoing debate w/a few jw's and now we're on this tangent where they are saying that jws are the most peaceful and law abiding people in comparison to other religious people.
i said that's not true, there's been many news articles that detail various crimes committed by jws.
i couldn't find anything right away when i did a google search, so can someone point me to some threads or links that contain recent and past articles of jw's in trouble w/the law or who have committed crimes?.

After Exiting the Witnesses - Are you O.K. Not Knowing about the Future ?
by flipper init seems that religion has always been considered the opium of the people.
or at least many tend to gravitate towards religion to have or solidify some sort of future with a supreme being overlooking them hoping to have a reward either in heaven or in the jehovah's witnesses case - living forever in a " paradise earth ".
it seems that people can't just live day to day and let each day come to them with whatever happens.

What about marriage? I was just having this conversation with a friend of mine who doesn´t know I have left yet. Another friend of ours is married. However the wife left him 20 years ago and she is a witness too. So this guy has been waiting 20 frickin years to be free of her but she will not free him as she has not broken the marriage vow. She likes being a drunk living in Florida with her mother. Is that not insane? So two lives are ruined because they are holding out over a manmade rule.

What's the most dumbest/petty thing you've heard of someone being "stumbled" over?
by Reality79 in- some loser once took offense that i hugged a sister goodbye at a leaving do and ran back to the elders like a little child telling on me.
i was 15, this sister was in her 40s at the time.. - this elder said someone told him they saw me with a copy of the sun newspaper.
yes, this paper is known for its 'page 3' topless girls but far from pornagraphic and i wasn't even thinking along those lines.. - one brother who had a good job was 'counselled' because he was actually able to buy himself nice things including a new car (shock, horror!!

I have so many....
The dumbest one was I bought a car. 4 door etc. Perfect field service car but since Atlanta had hosted the Olympics in 96 the license plate had an american flag on it. Yup...Got counseled by an Elder that I should change the license plate.
