Worst Night of the Year

well, it's that time of year again.

the memorial season is upon us and jws the world over are getting ready for the celebration which this year falls on 17 april.

for the first time since 1975, yours truly will not attend and i couldn't be happier.

This will be the 2nd year that I'm not attending. I do love the point @ 1 Cor 11:26 and it's simply another nail (no pun intended).. but if anyone asks me if I will be attending (and the subsequent why not), I'll simply refer them to John 6, especially the latter verses. Nuff said.

Is the WTS planning on going mainstream?

I think WTS could only go mainstream if it made the blood doctrine (amongst other doctrines - but this is the main one) TRULY and honestly a conscience matter.

Old Time Assemblies Question - Watchtower Study

please refresh my memory.. in the past, did they have an actual watchtower study at the assembly with questions and answers?.

if so, do you know when that ended and they started doing the review as a 30 minute talk?.

what would the arrangement at the assembly in, say, 1966 have been for the watchtower study?.

i am trying to prove or disprove a statement that i read today.

i read a statement by someone that i trust that the wtbts purposely distorts the number of anointed left alive in their reports.. i used to be a jehovah's witness.

i know all of their teachings very well.

Slim: I love how they judge who is truly anointed, when the Bible clearly specifies it is only God that can truly know who are his children or not. Again, the whole speaking for God thing always gets 'em.

A warm welcome to the board WhatWasIThinking! Like you mentioned, you can be thankful the deities that be that you weren't born-in (it takes way longer to achieve any sort of critical thinking skills and to see the forest from the trees) and that you lost "only" 4 years.. It takes some people much longer than that to see through the charade.

As far as your experience in the congo, I can sympathize. In every congregation I've ever been in, there are always various cliques that have existed long before you ever became a JW, and will exist long after. You had no way in. I know, because I always spent all my time on the outside. But that's OK, cause here we are!

If God exists and ordered a Purge how would you react?

the reason why god killed everyone in the days of noah was because of the demons who came to earth.

according to the story their direct presence and impact on us had a poisening effect.

we became corrupted and god felt the need for a total purge.. that's what the witnesses say is happening today.

Great thread. In Genesis, before the flood, YHWH "regretted" creating humans. Honestly, I can't really blame Him. I'd regret creating us too. Humans suck. But God regretting something? Come on. Of course, in WTS land, that's not REALLY what the scripture MEANS, even though thats what it SAYS (insert 246 other scriptures here in a similar vein).

But anyways, Robert Heinlein's book - Job: A Comedy of Justice is a pretty ficitonal (maybe), but funny book looking into how YHWH and Satan really interact behind the scenes.. A must read..
