Yeah meetup is cool. Lots of groups in the Tampa Bay FL area. I guess the concept of connecting with strangers may not appeal to those in very large cities as it does in other areas.

What is definition of a true friend, once outside the cult?
by suavojr inafter leaving the cult of jw's or waking up to ttatt, it is a struggle to trust people again.
i am personally starting from scratch although i am still in.
each moment i spend with my current jw friends, i know they are all smiles and loving towards me because of my good status with the wt.. outside a cult you still find fake people and it is also a struggle to find true friends and it is even worst when we've been hit hard from people we used to trust and care for.. .

LongHairGal said it very well!
A true friend accepts you for being yourself. Therefore in order to be a friend you have to be yourself rather than who others expect you to be. A true friend is supportive of you following your own dreams/goals/agendas, and vice versa. This is the opposite of what we're conditioned to do in the WT organization. Those friendships are based on both parties adhering to a particular belief or standard.I have some great friends now. The friendships started because of a common interest, and then as we gradually learned a little more about each others' lives we became friends. We simply enjoy each others' company, and have many (but not all) of the same values.
A true friend does not exert "peer pressure" on you, but instead, respects your individuality.

Why JWs don't celebrate Mother's day
by Laika inin the uk, this sunday is mother's day!
ask a jw why they don't celebrate holidays and they'll tell you it's because of some nefarious pagan connection.
but this is really just a cover.

Ha Ha! I remember when I was new and just started going out in service, was working with an elder. When it was my turn to take a door, the householder asked why we don't celebrate Mothers Day. The elder told him I (yes I, not him) would look it up and get back to him. As we were leaving, the elder told me, "See? Now you have a return visit!" I did research in the publications but never found an answer...so I never went back to that house.

You're right about the baggage thing, cultBgone. And you're right, this site is our meetup group.
Here on this site we all have at least one thing in common...we will never run out of things to talk about!

Hello, I am new
by LillyC ini am not a jehovah's witness but i am very interested, i have many questions and hope they can be answered here.. i do believe in god, privately.
i do say my prayers daily and do believe god helps me in countless ways.
but i don't go to any church.. i have always been impressed at how smart, polite and nice jehovah's witnesses are and i always make time to speak to them when they call at my door.

cultBgone,
Maybe there are certain hobbies/activities you enjoy or would like to try....karaoke, sewing, gardening, animal care, boating, yoga, Elvis Presley fan club, or whatever. Here's a website www.meetup.com where you put in your location and search for a group with a particular interest in your area. Put in "sewing" or "jazz" or whatever. OR if you don't have a particular hobby in mind, you can search by location and it'll list all the groups in that area. From that list you might find something that you hadn't thought of before. I got involved in a karaoke group and they meet at different locations on different evenings. I go only when I feel like it; it's not realy a club where you have to attend every meeting. It's just a means to connect with others who share a particular interest.
As for dating, there are sites such as eharmony.com that allow you to screen contacts before meeting them.
I hope these suggestions help.

Thanks WTBS for changing the Kingdom Songs, you freed me!
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.
it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.
for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

Oh heck, throw it out and tell her you left the car unlocked and someone stole it.
Its a very sick puppy that woule want to steal that crap.
This reminds me...... I have to throw out those crap magazines my wife left in the back of my car.
But the wife will think that something very valuable was stolen and that maybe the person will end up finding Jehovah because of it. Meanwhile, a break from suck @$$ kingdom songs.
Just tell the wife she can count it as a placement. Then she'll have an experience to relate on the platform at the next circus assembly.

Whenever I saw a sign like that I would NOT go in. Yet I've seen other publishers "rattle the gate" and enter. I live in a rural area where you have to drive from one house to the next. When there was a "No Trespassing" sign I would not enter. But most other publishers would. They think they have angelic protection. Most people who have pit bulls, german shepherds, and the like have them for a reason: to protect their property and families and to keep intruders out. I used to argue with my fellow publishers, "If Jehovah reads their hearts and sees good, He will see to it that they get the message. We do not have to risk our lives just to cover our territory."

Yes I too noticed the abrupt shift int he mood of the songs. They used to reflect emotion, love for Jehovah as a real person, and various other emotions. But the new ones are just emotionless chants. They remind me of the chants used by soldiers as they march along.

There is definitely no angelic protection. Some publishers get mugged while in service or while on their way home from meetings.
