  How much positive reinforcement do you need to function on JWD?

  suffice to say most of us appreciate favorable comments when we initiate a thread.

  even in our jw days, after an assembly part, student talk, public talk etc.

  the kind words of our brothers and sisters contributed to our self-esteem.

  hey revolutionary rebel welcome. I was a little puzzled sometimes by grandma Jones's posts and did wonder if 2 different people were posting. Thanks for clearing that up. Great to have gradma and grandson on board. I always follow what grandma Jones says and she is full of wisdom. Its nice to see that you are a chip of the old block.

  As to the question in the title of this read - TMS my reply is: seeking positive reinforcement is healthy and I agree wholeheartedly with grandma's sentiments. (I have not read the window washer thread - do I need to read it first?)

  The fact that Jehovahs witnesses used postive reinforcment to such a great degree does not nullify its necessity. They were simply using something that is part of human desire and part of all life. An individual may come here seeking a lot of postive reinforcement - the fact that they stay for a time shows that they find what they want.

  edit: now I've have read the window washer thread and understand your point TMS. I find myself agreeing with yesidid and don'tplaceliterature's comments on that thread.

  Farkel I do enjoy your comments but you are not the GB - so get over it.

  i haven't always understood how christ could have carried our sins for us, and had them forgiven.

  i've sort of understood because that's what people say he did, but the ransom (in a legalistic adam/jesus way) never held weight for me.

  but something recently happened that allowed me to understand.

  i have offically asked lady lee to delete my profile on this site.. that being said, i want to thank everyone that was there for me through my hard times coming out of this cult and dealing with my wife who is still in it.

  i know that it seemed like i didn't care and was not gratefull for all the support that i received on the site.

  thank you Tammy for your thoughts. I have also had such instants in my own journey out and I love them. I think this is when one experiences timelessness in which one recognises the length and the breadth of metamorphic allness. To me this bears a resemblance to what you describe as Christ and to what Paul describes at eph3:18-19

  evolutionists always claim that the reason why they believe in evolution and reject creation is due to "evidence".

  they frequently use the opposite term "no evidence" in relation to any type of intelligent design, or creation, (and especially to genesis creation and flood history !).

  their advocated beliefs always tend to include whatever is necessary to believe in to intellectually "explain" the existence of the universe, world, and its creatures without needing god).

  here is a book I have found very useful which a friend lent me called 99% Ape - How Evolution Adds up

  It agrees and disagrees with your own findings shelby. The fossil record is quiet on a number of key issues that you have highlighted and scientists will keep on searching for answers.

  The book also discusses abiogenesis and its limitations. Symbiosis gets an important mention. Many strong atheists here dismiss symbiosis as fantasy. However science does not. This is part of the reason I want to make a distinction between evolution and athiesm. But it is understandable that after coming out of a religion like JWs an athiest would want to present evolution as an alternative religion. It isn't, it does not have all the answers, it does not provide certainty. It presents life as flux, therefore if an individual wants to pin down life through a belief in a personal God - good for you.

  The book also shows how it is possible for complicated structures, that once were considered to be the work of an intelligent designer, to occur naturally. Wonderful biological mechanisms that were once described as evidence of supernatural intervention could be accounted for in this way - by completely natural processes. However there are huge gaps and the book is candid about these. So if one wants to believe in God then this is perfectly compatible with evolution.

  There is also an excellent description of what a genome is

  "Genes are genetic instructions written in a sequence of molecular letters that are linked together in very long chains of DNA that, with some structural and control molecules, form chromosomes. If we think metaphorically of a gene as being a one-sentence instruction, then a chromosome is like a chapter composed of many sentences. A whole genome is then a book containing many chromosome 'chapters'. In the book of the human genome there are 23 chromosome chapters".

  edit: I think it would be quite helpful if athiests corrected one another's understanding instead of letting mistakes go. I find that many here do want to learn and what is the point of, for the sake of ganging up, allowing huge inaccuracies to filter through. Chrisitans correct and discuss amongst themselves and will come out and admit when they don't agree with one another. If athiest are doing this too and I just haven't noticed then I do apologise. I would also be interested in reading about it.
