  Been there many times... Boca Chica, Punta Cana and La Romana/Casa de Campo... excellent destination... great bang for the vacation buck!

  i used to come on this site a lot more but drifted away.

  the thing is that recently, i've been thinking a lot more about my life, and its lack of direction, and purpose.

  i'm in a good relationship, i have great friends and support if i need it.

  Feeling Lost...

  I can't speak to your situation because not everyone feels lost for the same reasons (after escaping the WT). In my case, I realized that the WT conditioned me to think that I needed to become a member in good standing of an earthly organization chosen by Jesus in 1918. I eventually woke up and realized that the Bible says no such thing and that no human organization can self-proclaim itself to be "The Truth" or the "sole channel" between God and man (Ephesians 4:11-16; 1Timothy 2:3-6). But because of the "programming", I felt lost for about a year... What I can say about this is that you'll find direction soon... but don't look for it, it comes naturally over time.

  Last year, when I spoke to an elder about the Society's failed prophecies, flip-flops and the latest "generation" changes, he quickly defended the WT and the GB and even mentioned that the society is now emphasizing the need to stick to the outline because so many brothers were adding things to their talks over the years that were simply not approved by the Society (causing other JWs to spread wrong teachings). I replied: Really?... then I asked him why the 1969 Awake! volume was missing from the KH Library. He asked: What does that have to do with this? I then pulled out an actual copy of the the May 22, 1969 Awake! which mentioned that if you were a young person (in 1969), you would need to "face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers."

  I then showed him the contents of Finished Mystery, Thy Kingdom Come and some Rutherford rainbow books... and after all that I finally asked him: You still think that the failed prophecies, flip-flops and the "generation" changes were due to some brothers going off script during their talks?

  He had nothing else to say for a few seconds and then told me I should just wait on Jehovah... but I think I planted a seed...

  "World's Apart" on Sundance Channel

  the danish movie about the brutal effects of disfellowshipping is being shown on sundance channel again.

  if anyone hasn't seen it i encourage you to do so.

  i wonder how it would fly when watching with a believing mate?.

  Circuit Overseer talking Ray Franz in talk this morning (Phone number included)

  i'm still a semi member of the kh but not at all active and have major doubts when i started reading all kinds of opposing literature.

  talked to elders about this and also my father but my father but he still believes it's the "truth".

  anyways jist of this story is i gave my father a copy of "crisis of conscience".

  I dialed in and dropped off 30 minutes later... A lot of gibberish about how the truth should affect our lives... No mention of Ray (at least not in the 1st 30 minutes).

  Can you be appointed as an Elder while attending college?

  what is the current stance on this issue?

  i've heard of a lot of ms who were going to university, and yet i've never heard of that being the case for elders.

  someone on this board also mentioned recently that they knew of man who was denied appointment as an elder despite otherwise excellent qualifications because he was a college student.

  the PO from my congo was getting his Phd last year in information systems so he didn't have time to answer all my questions about 607-1914, the generation overlap, 1975, 1935, etc.. After "nagging" him for answers to simple questtions, he eventually said that I should write to the Society because he simply did not have the time... So I wrote a series of letters to brooklyn and their evasive responses made it that much easier for me to run for the exit.

  DOUBLE STANDARDS from the Watchtower Society

  the double think standards of jehovah's witness authority is best illustrated by the following:.

  jehovahs witnesses refuse to buy the malawi congress party card.

  this card declares the holder to be a member of the ruling political party of malawi.

  The GB needed Malawi brothers to be persecuted and the Malawi sisters needed to be raped so the GB could use them as examples of faith in circuit and district assemblies whenever production levels dropped. However, they really didn't want to create any waves in Mexico because they needed to maintain their status as a non-religous cultural organization as this would allow them to purchase real estate that they could eventually flip in the future... (back then, religous entities weren't allowed to purchase real estate in Mexico, so JWs had their "cultural meetings" with no prayers and no bibles... just Watchtower literature)

  The justification for all this? It's theocratic warfare strategy approved by the GB. Anyone who questioned this back then was disfellowshipped.

  Who choose the elders to give talks at the Circuit Assembly and District Assembly?

  The Circuit Overseer picks him based on the following criteria:

  • amount of money in the envelope collected by the PO from the congo and handed to the CO at the end of his visit
  • average monthly hours reported by the elders... not actual hours, but hours counted going to donut shops, etc.
  • speaking ability, (not thinking ability)
  • number of brothers the elder greets as they enter the hall during the CO's visit (not the number of brothers he normally greets when the CO is not in town)
  • quality of restaurant CO is invited to by the elder during his visit.
  • whether of not the congo's finances are in order, not whether or not there are any brothers in financial troubles.

  That's about it I think... If I missed anything, please let me know.

  jw's have the tendency to come up with the worst illustrations.

  it boggles my mind sometimes.

  here's one someone gave me about new light.. when confronted with the fact that since certain teachings change, the jw's never had the truth.

  In a shepherding call last October, I brought up the wacky WT teachings in 1918 when Jesus audited the churches worldwide and chose the WT. The illustration one of the elders came up with went something like: If you were lost and hungry in the middle of the jungle and there was nothing else to eat except worms that Jehovah lovingly provided, would you not eat these worms? Or would you simply die of hunger?... I just looked at him and thought: "you complete moron"... The other elder, realizing this was a ridiculous illustration, quickly jumped in and changed the subject entirely...
