From the perspective of someone who today holds an advanced degree in theology and who strongly disagrees with the theology and Biblical exegesis they contain, it is nonetheless clear that there has been a planned, precipitous intellectual decline in the past several decades.
It is blatantly obvious that the Society lost whatever intellectual backbone it had when it disfellowshipped the likes of Ray Franz and Ed Dunlap.
This is definitely true. The intellectual decline started, I believe, when Fred Franz died. Didn't Ray credit him with much of the theological underpinnings of the WT during the 1900s? He was there right from the beginning (basically), and had a certain... creativity... when it came to doctrinal matters.
Nobody seems to be able to fill his shoes, and it shows.
