Subpoenas are court orders requiring a person to come and testify, in this case before the grand jury that's investigating the WT.
A subpoena duces tecum is a special kind of subpoena which requires the person to deliver up records in his or her control. That may or may not be followed up by requiring testimony, depending on what is or isn't produced.

This could be a long process.
I think Phase 1 of the subpoenas is focusing on getting records rather than on getting testimony from elders and ex-elders.
Once the Attorney General's staff goes through those records and identifies situations where the elders did nothing or covered up abuse then will come Phase 2 where they will have questions prepared for elders and ex-elders regarding what they did or didn't do, what COs or the Branch advised them to do, etc.

A couple years ago I talked with an elder from Pennsylvania.
He assured me there were no problems in that State with regarding to reporting because there are mandatory reporting laws that the Society complies with.
I wonder what he thinks now.
I wonder what he will think as more information comes to light.
i am a pimo, inactive, parent of an underage child.
i was wondering what rights i have in regards to avoid that my child will be baptized when still underage, not having read the entire bible and before being able to clearly evaluate all the alternatives and consequences (like it happened to me) whereas the other pimi parent has all the rights to do it.
any experiences about children in a pimi vs pimo parents situation?
In the United States, usually the parent who has legal custody of a minor child has the right to determine the child's religious upbringing.
Of course, the other parent could get the child baptized without your knowledge.
You might want to get a specific order through the divorce court preventing that.
Even if they're baptized in violation of a court order, the WT will consider them to be a JW and will shun them if they leave.
why do jehovah’s witnesses say they are god’s organization so matter of factly as though such an audacious claim is an undisputable fact?
here is how one person sees this claim.. "the entire jehovah’s witness religion is founded on unsubstantiated hubristic claims which are continually repeated until they are assumed by adherents to be a proven fact.. never is this more evident than when the beliefs of a jehovah’s witness are successfully challenged.
the more compelling the evidence against them, the more they resort to repeating their convictions with a sense of insistence, as if they are chanting a mantra.. confirmation bias is prevalent in all religious ideologies, but particularly with jehovah’s witnesses.
A fellow graduate told me there would not be time to go to university and that I would be destroyed if I did not become a JW by 1975. I told him he would wake up in 1976 with egg all over his face.
Instead of recognizing the egg on their faces, many JWs said, "My service to Jehovah isn't tied to a date" (I remember an elder telling me that) and just dug in deeper.
Many are probably still in, denying to themselves that the organization ever said anything of consequence about 1975.

"they (jehovah's witnesses) offer you a free home “bible” study - which turns out to be a study of a watchtower publication with the bible brought out as an afterthought to try and prop up whatever current idea the governing body are claiming is “the truth” this week.. i think it’s underhanded.. when my parents became jehovah’s witnesses and they offered people a free home “bible” study, this is what they brought to study with them:.
what, did you think they were going to study the bible with you?.
Looking back, I can't believe how easily I fell for the bait and switch.
I remember asking why we were going to study the little blue Truth book instead of the Bible itself.
The answer was, "Oh, this book is organized topic by topic and makes things easier to understand."
I just said, "Oh, okay," and away we went.
I think it's a matter of trusting people's sincerity.
I still think those JWs were sincere.
They really thought they were studying the Bible.
why do you think many jws are hostile and rude?

JWs are trained to believe that the world is a horrible place and that virtually everyone else is evil, out to persecute them, and about to be destroyed at Armageddon.
In addition, the WT treats them like children and rules them through fear and guilt.
That's enough to make anyone angry and rude.

Sadly, most JWs won't read past the first paragraph.
in the november 2022 study watchtower, "jehovah's organization" (or variants) is repeated at least 37 times.. the word 'organization' - like 'governing body,' 'trinity,' hell-fire,' & 'immortal soul,' - doesn't exist in the holy scriptures.. interestingly, jesus christ is mentioned only twice in all of the study articles - as an aside..
Not surprising.
WT theology is centered on the WT organization.
In WT teaching, you can come to Jehovah without coming to Jesus (Jesus is in heaven and you can't have any personal relationship with him), but you can't come to Jehovah without coming to his organization.
The WT mindset is also that to be loyal to the organization is to be loyal to Jehovah and to leave the organization is to leave Jehovah.
i'm sure this has been discussed, but 1914 has to go away.
instead of, the overlapping generation teaching, they should have just ditched 1914. .
they should have done that a long time ago with 1975. it's the last of the teachings in the charles taze russell era.. i'm thinking they just will stop talking about it, and it will be out of the mind of the rank and file loyal witnesses .
Contradictions don't bother most JWs.
Whatever the GB says is true, even if it contradicts itself...
