First Date...
by White Dove ina man i met at work (customer) gave me his e-mail address, so i contacted him.. we've been e-mailing for a few days now, and it's time for a first date.. i suggest starbucks.. he insists on the park.. it's 106 degrees!
i suggest starbucks, again because it's too hot to walk in the park.. he says that maybe we should cancel because the heat doesn't bother him.. he said, "i'm a very practical man...maybe you can't handle the heat.".
this is my first phoenix, az summer.

Loyalty Keeps Us Morally Clean
by sd-7 ina rebellion had begun.
in moses' absence, the israelites built a golden calf and engaged in idolatrous reveling.
the clamor of their immoral festivities was clearly identifiable as improper.

Got a visit from door-to-door JW's!
by donuthole intoday while i was home for a quick lunch break i got a knock at the door.
i opened the door and was surprised to see two elderly jehovah's witnesses women.
i haven't been called on since i've been out for four years, so this was a bit of surprise.

OMG, that was a bit bold. I guess you had cooties. I love your response! You shoulda let them keep thinking, "I know that guy from somewhere....." and gotten on with a bit of a convo if you could. Would have been interesting to see the wheels spinning in their mind as you brought up some things.

Why do JW's downplay older WT articles?
by mamalove ini was looking at brotherdan's thread about the two articles that really point out in the wtbs's own words that we must follow this organization, blah blah, and they are indeed a cult from reading those articles.
it made me think that i would love to show my mom and sister that, but i know the response would be "so what, that is a 40 year old magazine," it was dated 1969, and 1983 was the other article i believe.. are the jw's i know the only ones who poo poo older articles and say that thinking isn't up to date anymore, that new thinking has superceded those new articles?
even though we know that the overall thinking is the same.

Even though we know that the overall thinking is the same. You must believe this is the spirit directed organization of God, or you are an apostate according to them. We have many examples of people DF'd for not agreeing with that....

Mental Block...
by ForbiddenFruit inhi, i am a male in my late teens... now, as we all know, when you are a jw, even looking at the opposite sex is a deadly sin.
the most a boy can do to a girl without brother 90 year old virgin giving you a lecture, is awkward stares from across the room.
even a mere "hello" is enough to raise suspicions.. anyway, as time goes on, this thought pattern carries itself over, to even after you've left the organisation.. whenever you like a girl, you are scared to make any sort of approach, even a friendly one, in case someone (she) thinks you are a sexual pervert.

From a now single girl's perspective, just be confident, not cockey, look her in the eye, be a good conversationalist, ask questions to get to know her. Most chicks are nice and responsive if they are not already taken. Good luck.

Marking 7 Years out of the Watchtower
by lovelylil2 inboy oh boy where to start?
lots of changes over the last seven years.
this week i had been reflecting on just how drastically my life has changed for the better since loosening the grip of the watchtower society.. in brief, my life seven years ago this month looked liked this; my family was very unhappy after nearly a decade of serving the "happy god" of the watchtower and being part of the "happiest people on earth".

That was a very moving post. I am really encouraged at all of the spouses who followed after. Gives me hope for my mom and sis. I am so glad you found happiness!

If you don't give a s**t about celebrating, feel free to post here.
by VampireDCLXV ini'll just come out and say it... i don't give a f**k about my birthday.
it's only a painful reminder that i'm one year closer to my grave.
i'm not here to pick a fight with those who do celebrate.

Not a big deal for me, but my dad and step mom asked me if I would be offended if they bought me a years worth of monthly house cleaning services for my bday which is coming up. I said hell no I am not offended. My house doesnt seem to get very dirty, but I will take it! One less thing I have to worry about, scrubbing floors...not so fun.

I think it was Holy Spirit that lead you to discover that.

Out and feeling lost, with no friends? Have faith! (my uplifting experience :D)
by teel inmaybe not many of you remember my anguish through the last year since i joined jwn.
in the meantime i lost my wife (the official divorce is due in ~two weeks), lost all my friends (thank god no family though, except the wife), battled the wts and sort-of lost.
just like most of you when you got through this experience i was lost and confused, coult not found my place in life.. i owe much gratitude to this board for giving me the much needed information and support that i am not alone, and what i'm feeling is not something unusual.

I can definitely relate! I had a few non-JW friends when I exited, but it wasn't enough to make me feel less alone. Making friends feels great. And maybe when you are ready, you can start dating a little bit....coming from a fellow almost divorced person, it isn't scary either, and you can have alot of fun meeting new people and getting to do fun things. Hang in there, life gets really good after the storm settles! ((HUGS))

For those who saw flaws in Watchtower doctrine and left. Why do you not apply the same standard of examination to your current beliefs?
by nicolaou ini know that many left because of a lack of real love or for other personal reasons.
i would never belittle those reasons for exiting, they are as valid as any other, but if that describes your situation then perhaps this topic might not apply so much to you.. i left the watchtower because i came to realise the doctrine was flawed.
i was in my mid 30's before my mind begin waking up and i started to develop basic critical thinking abilities.

I love that eloquent quote, I think I might need that for Facebook. Is that ok dmouse? :)
I am still defining my beliefs. But it feels good to give myself the permission to question. For now, my internal moral character prevails and the golden rule. I have not taken up worship anywhere else yet.
