  Is there a problem with JWN web pages ?

  just wondering if anyone else is having problems with jwn pages widening .. clicking on the widen icon doesn't do anything .

  what specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?

  was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

  as far back as i can remember---ive never believed in a giant invisible gas cloud in the sky. primitive ancient man invented god to explain what wasnt understood. no excuse for it these days-----other than as justification for religious hatred.

  in 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.

  oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.

  but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

  i was baptized at the age of 11. like most of us, my commitment wasnt to honor god but rather i was gang pressed into the service of the wtbts.

  and, at such a young age, it was impossible for me to appreciate the enormity of my actions.

  honestly, how could i possibly have known any better?

  sheeee--it dipped at--7--8--9--- what on earth ?????

  i was dipped at 14---along with my dad--and 6 other kids same age--same KH.

  a pal said--"they will ask you 2 questions---just answer---no" which i did. i think the answer should have been--yes. just shows how much i knew.

  Most of my extended family have no idea my wife is a jw.

  you non-jws who have jw mates or anyone interested in responding.

  do you or would you tell extended family that your spouse is a jw.

  i ask because i have a couple of other relatives who are jws who pulled away from the family the years ago that caused some hurt to family that use to be close to them.

  On Tattoos

  tattoos may look great for a while on a young person, but as you get older they'll just look plain stupid.

  your credibility will fade as you and your tattoo age together.

  your skin will be permanently stuck in a timewarp, like some old newspaper headline that once meant something but later becomes meaningless.

  i agree with navytown--to each his/her own. if i dont like to see it--i dont look.

  but--why not temporary ones ? then you can buy the same thing over and over-----no need to end up looking like a city map. good business opportunity there.

  My DF'd father going in for cancer surgery

  in january or february of this year, my father was df'd for viewing pornography.

  he was diagnosed with a rare-ish lung cancer in august, it doesn't have good recovery odds.

  he had been struggling with a porn problem for awhile, asking the 'brothers' for help.

  i am a girl from a country in europe, and not an english speaking one, so if i am writing strange or something, you know why.

  The conflict of living in a divided home is finally getting to me - 8 years later - advice please

  to cut my long story short, having left the religion in 2006, my marriage with 2 young kids involved went through a fairly difficult time.

  for a few years.

  as i rebelled against the belief system i was astonished that having pointed out reasonable & logical objections, my wife just stood by the religion.

  i grew up as a dub--married a born-in at 20 ( usual reason ) 13 years and 3 kids later--my wife grabbed a devil sent opportunity to scripturally divorce me. i had been out for years by then.

  now---at 66----looking back at half my life away from her and the crazy gang--ive no regrets. and still live life to the full.
