  Have you tried increasing your reading speed? Recommendations?

  here's a shout out to any who may have tried increasing their reading speed and comprehension.

  have you tried any particular methods, courses, books, etc?.

  if so, with what success?

  Who in their right mind wants to become a JW?

  my neighbour across the street went to his 1st jw meeting yesterday.

  he also went to the memorial last april.

  he didn't go since.. coming back from his 1st meeting, he told me that he told the elders, that he will never wear a tie, and that he will never go out inthe field service, and that he wont go back to their meetings anymore because their meeting is right inthe middle of the afternoon on sundays....1pm to 3pm.

  Who in their right mind wants to become a JW?

  Someone who came out of an authoritarian family, who thought rigidness was the norm, who was sixteen and searching for the answers to life and some way to make a difference in the world, and who was too inexperienced to be aware of what a cult is and how it operates.

  I don't necessarily equate mental unstableness with simply not ever having experienced the norm.

  I was an earnest seeker when I joined. When it got so bad I started questioning my sanity, I left.

  I have since left another "mainstream" church because I recognized the same type of behaviors.

  LOL Gopher!: So I am definitely in my right mind, then:)

  my husband was mumbling in his sleep last night, so i shook him and told him he was having a nightmare.

  he said he saw a spooky shawdow coming toward him and he couldn't move.

  when i eventually went to sleep, i experience the same thing.

  Lol, no. But I did have a dream about a giant wild hog running amok through a school. I woke up, got a drink, went back to bed, and picked up in the dream where I'd left off! Funny thing was, I wasn't really scared in the dream, or when I was awake. I was more like an interested observer to all the chaos.

  overcompensating when leaving JWs?

  ever notice this phenomenon?

  seems like a lot of people that leave in their early 20s tend to become wild party animals as soon as they leave da troof, getting tattoos, piercings and the like and going almost overboard with it.

  anyone ever experience this?

  LOL! Only one of my children has gotten a tattoo. Two have gotten piercings, but one let it grow back over.Their "rebellion" has mostly consisted of getting involved with motocross racing, donating blood, donating to church food pantries, joining the military, and being involved in monogamous nonmarital relationships.

  Caffeine and NGO issues

  hi again.

  i may just be being lazy here and for that i apologise, but for the benefit of myself and other newbies, could you just clarify or point me in the right direction... i am very curious about the caffeine issue and the ngo issue - i have not heard of them before?.

  I was actually asked this question in FS one time. I showed the person one of the scriptures where a census was taken, and some of the scriptures where other things were accounted for by recording amounts to "prove" that it was okay to count time.

  I wonder why they never asked me to show them where Jesus counted his time in the ministry, lol.That might have got me thinking.

  Oh, and when they asked me if I felt it gave me a better chance at salvation, I said no, it only kept me from being bloodguilty for not warning mankind.

  Did you have to dress up for meeting?

  i remember having to dress up for every meeting even the ones during the week.

  i had to wear a botton down shirt dress pants, a tie, dress shoes, dress socks and a blazer.

  this was also required by my parents to dress up when going door to door.

  LOL on denim being satan's fabric, Bobbi. I had a very dressy denim dress with a lace collar that I got counseled for wearing.

  I never required my sons to wear jackets in the summer. Our hall wasn't air conditioned. I also let them wear polo shirts. Hmmm, now I think I see why I was always considered "on the outer fringes of the sheep pasture.":)

  I absolutely refuse to wear pantyhose in the summer now, on the very rare occasions that I wear a dress.

  Can't attend the footwashing,but

  well today is footwashing sunday at my home church in kentucky.

  this is always a favorite event for me.

  they usually have guest preachers, special singing, and of course, dinner on the grounds.

  The first time I ever heard of foot washing was from a JW.She explained what it was, and offered to wash my feet, but since I wasn't sure whether or not it was a WTS-approved activity, I declined her offer.I had never heard of it before she explained it to me.
