  for me so far it would have to be awaken the giant within by anthony robbins, crisis of conscience/in search of christian freedom by ray franz and understanding cults and mind control by steve hassan.

  My college textbooks and lectures

  "Controlling People: How to Recognize, Understand, and Deal with People Who Try to Control You" by Patricia Evans. It has some chapters dealing with controlling groups. I think she does a good job explaining about how people with a need to control replace another person's authentic self with the controller's fantasy version of that person. All of the articles in the WT about people giving up their artistic hobbies, etc. popped into mind when I read this.

  Perhaps it was a simple way to describe chemotaxis of sperm to the ovum, or of the polarity/electrical event which hardens the membrane surrounding the egg and results in the inability of other sperm to penetrate once a sperm has penetrated the zona pellucida (an insurance that it was only Abraham's, and that none of those suitors she had even into her old age, thanks to Abraham fudging the truth about her being his sister, had a chance at being the daddy.
  
  
  
  
  
  That lil ovum is pretty active itself, and so is the "sperm" of the female reproductive tract, if you will. The male sperm is not able to actually fertilize an ovum until it's in contact with the fluids of the female reproductive tract. This is called capacitation.That ability to mobilize the sperm for fertilization could be just as easily seen as being a woman's "sperm".Ditto the chemicals that attract the sperm to the egg.
  
  Then there's all the tricky issues of implantation, too (just ask women who are struggling with infertility how important that issue is).Implantation issues are more pronounced in older women, but Sarah did just fine, thank you.
  
  While Abraham's seed was of definite importance, so was his wife's reproductive tract's ability to chemically attract that sperm to the ovum, to mobilize that seed so that it could flagellate it's way to said ovum and fertilize it, and her ability to carry the resultant child in her womb.
  
  I personally don't see any conflict at all in this passage with science.I just think the passage was a shorthand way of explaining all of this biology stuff people weren't aware of until they got around to inventing microscopes.

  She was sweet, funny, feisty, and inclined to be a bit rebellious toward WTS organisation protocol, lol.She didn't just say she was Christian, she demonstrated it tirelessly. I loved her to pieces.She was the type that if we would have run into each other after I left, she would have talked to me without thinking twice about it.I saw her do it repeatedly with disfellowshipped ones at the hall, and no one said a word to her about it.Not that she would have listened if they had-whenever she didn't want to do something, she just claimed her hearing aid was acting up;).She died shortly after I left, though. Rest in peace Evie:)

  Why don't Jehovah's Witneses offer childrens activities?

  i have always wondered why the jw's don't have a playroom/area or offer kids activities during the meetings.

  i would imagine it's been brought to the societys attention at some point.

  it just makes so much sense to offer a place where kids and go and play, where they can be read to, have them sing, color pages on bible related stories etc..... .

  "it was always the mother or an older daughter who took the responsibility of removing a noisy little one from the main hall. i got so tired of the dirty looks from turned heads during meetings that i just quit going."
  
  When I tried to remove my young children because they were noisy,the elders weren't even happy with that. I understood child development, and refused to beat my kids for not being able to sit still for two hours at a stretch. I would take them to the library, which had speakers and a glass window you could see the main hall from.I was actually called on by name from the platform to answer a question in the Revelation book (we had our book study at the hall while our study conductor's house was being rennonvated) one time.The conductor made a big deal about me not being in the main hall. Then I was told by him and another elder after the meeting that the B school/library was not a nursery (didn't matter that I had a nursing newborn and preschool children I was bringing to the meeting by myself).
  
  I didn't go for months after that!
