I have a family member who is in Bethel and she got braces on her teeth that were done by a Dentist that does Bethelites teeth on a regular basis. The folks at H.Q. don't wait for the New System to care for their teeth.

You make some really good points especially the part about Charles Russell. You could also tell them that you're not "Fading", it's just that you're a little too "Dim" to understand the New Light. (har har)

Dear Grace Undeserved Kindness,
Your post reminds me of the time I went to a random barnyard sale at a rural farm we happened to pass while on a drive out in the country. I saw an "Aid Book" for sale among a lot of other miscellaneous books. I picked it up and inside the front cover was the hand written name of the (deceased) Grandmother of my best friend as a child. Next to her name was the name of the congregation I attended as a youth. Betty Smith, Anytown Congregation. I was shocked at not only the coincidence of finding this book at a barnyard sale in the middle of nowhere and having this name jump out at me unexpectedly, but it also seemed really wrong to see what I had at one time considered one of our "inspired" publications, sitting among a whole lot of trashy novels and the like. I had a sort of reverence for the publications for some reason. It pained me to throw them away. If I did throw some magazines away I'd first tear the covers off so no one would see them disgraced in a garbage dump. (weird huh ?)
After I lost my Dad due to the misinformation found in those publications (blood issue) I had no problem trashing them. I did it with such a vengence and it was so therapeutic. I felt a great sense of releif, much like those individuals you hear about in JW anecdotes feel, when they rid their home of (supposedly) demon possesed items. You were right to rid that shop of that book. Even JW's don't recognize it as containing TRUTH anymore. The Bible hasn't changed but their publications about the Bible certainly have.

"I won't watch HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER" because Neil Patrick Harris is gay"
by OnTheWayOut inthat's what my jw mother said.
folks, there are plenty of reasons not to watch how i met your mother, but a gay actor playing a straight part is not one of them.
i should give her a list of known gay actors and ruin a bunch of movies and t.v.

I was standing next to Rosie O'donnel at a urinal shortly after she came out of the closet and she complained that her ratings had plummeted because of this same kind of thinking.

Dental care caused a congregation uproar .....WHERE DO YOU LIVE ????
I know people these kinds of things off (mostly cheap skates who used the new system as an excuse) but I never heard of anyone being stumbled by it.

by dissonance_resolved incan you think of any reason why they would start making bethel volunteers complete i9s?
(us work authorization forms).

They are likely checking to see if the applicant is eligible to work or be in this country whether paid or unpaid.

Flashback to the sixties Seatle
by Tater-T inso while making a you tube video of my dad today, i came across this in a dvd of home movies from way back, i didn't even know about it... originally shot on super 8 film, shot off screen with camcorder in 1992, with open mic, transfered to dvd in 2010 .. made to you tube in 2013.... check out the food service, without paper plates no less .. it's only a couple minutes on convention then, a little seatle conventions were a family vacation when we were growing up ... .

At the Vancouver International Assembly, the P&E fair grounds was next to the staduim where the assembly was being held. We could watch the rollercoaster going up and down all day and hear the screams of the riders in the distance. Pure torture for us kids sitting in the stands hearing them drone on about some convoluted Bible prophesy . It was rumored that some sister cut across the roller coaster tracks and got run over. This was all the more reason why we weren't allowed to go there at the break or afterwards like all the weak JW's did. " If that sister would have listened to the Brothers, she'd be alive today" was the thinking.
The n there was always a someone falling down the stairs usually a little girl or sister who tried to navigate the steep smooth surfaced steps in their slipery dress shoes or high heels and each assembly day had at least one or two people who fainted and were hauled off in a stretcher, overcome by heat. Then there was always the sound of fluttering paper followed by a thud when someones Bible was dropped down through the bleachers.

Ok just ran it by mom.. it was 1970 Vancouver BC.. for the convention and they went to Seatle to..
I was at that one for sure. Vancouver is only about a 3 hour drive from here. I knew it wasn't Sick's Seattle Stadium in the Video because of the background scenery. 4 years later we had the International Assembly there in Vancouver and that's where I was baptized. The then popular country singer Glen Campbell was supposedly there to be baptized too. People were reportedly running around with their songbooks looking for him to autograph them. They had a talk on the assembly that made specific mention about not idolizing things in the world. (of course, they say that at every assembly) They also had a big plumbing problem going on and lack of bathrooms. There were long lines of people waiting to get inside these makeshift stalls that weren't working properly and they had brothers who were assigned to walk up and down the long lines past all the waiting people shouting " Brothers and Sisters....FLUSH FOR B.M. ONLY !!!" Of course we kids thought that was so weird and hilarious at the same time. There were volunteers walking around with nicely hand painted signs that said " Quiet Please " or "Keep Moving" and "Flush for B.M. Only" as well. We were glad not to have gotten that assignment.

I'm sure I was at that Convention. It was in Seattle Center Memorial Stadium in the same complex as the Space Needle. I was the little boy in the bleachers scared to death by all the adults who were saying we had to be prepared for Armegeddon and an all out attack on Jehovah's people by Satan the Devil, any day. I had a notebook and was told to write Jehovah, Jesus and Satan at the top of the page. Then everytime the speaker said one of those names, I was suppose to make a hash mark under the corresponding name. At the end we had to count up all the Jehovah's , Jesus' and Santan's we had heard.
I often wonder what it would have been like to grow up without the expectation of my father and the rest of world being destroyed by God because they didn't want to become Jehovah's Witnesses? What would it have been like to spend 8 hours a day 5 days in a row, learning something that would have benefited me now?
I used to like that they served cantaloupe sliced in half with a scoop of ice cream in the center. When I got a little older I always volunteered to work in food service mostly because I wanted to wear one of those paper hats but I also worried that if I didn't, it would be displeasing to Jehovah and I might not be considered worthy to be in the New System. Starting at about 9 I worked at a Pop Stand and I remember having an apron with pockets that were filled with change. I can't beleive they let a little kid do that and expected me to keep track of the money, but I did it. I used to fill up about a dozen cups and have them ready for the crowd because I didn't want anyone to get mad at me for having to wait. There was a Brother who went from stand to stand and monitored us. I remember getting counseled not to have so many cups of Pop ready on my table because they'd go flat before anyone had bought them. I remember being just crestfallen that I had failed at my job.

Beyond Bitterness?
by DogGone inlike many, my path to the ttatt was a long and painful journey.
i wasnt mature or intellectually honest enough to "wake up" while still an active witness.
(i applaud those who have awaken while active; that is mental rigour i wish i had!

It took a lot of digging and reading for me to little by little get rid of the mental residue left over from being a life long witness. It is quite an accomplishment to rid oneself of that " But what if they really are right ?" feeling. The best thing for me was seeing the misinformation in the old literature such as that old 1984 Watchtower with all the (long dead) elderly Bethelites looking heavenward, enntitled, 1914...The Generation That Will Not Pass Away. Their own publications containing misinformation, coupled with a death of a my Dad over the blood issue as well as the injustice treatment of a family member by the Elders gave me the courage to act on what I had realized decades ago. If someone is carrying around Watchtower learned guilt, I think it's best for them to rid themselves of it by looking at all the mistakes, lies and wrong infromation in the publications from the past in which they learned "the truth" in the first place.
Too bad there isn't one book or collection of information where it's all contained in one place.
